The earlier seasons of friends had these really nice sub-stories in the scenes. Like here, it's so adorable that while Ross is telling Joey about how dirty her apartment is (main storyline), he's also tying his tie then later gives it to Joey, it feels more realistic that way when the sitcom isn't Only focused on the main storyline of the dirty girl.

In the 90’s, my housemate, male, dated a woman who had a messy apartment. I didn’t see her place, but he said something that stuck with me: “I was afraid to sit down.” He really liked her, but he broke up with her after about 6 weeks, because he was looking to settle down. They didn’t value the same things in life, like, I don’t know…soap?

Honestly I always found Ross the funniest guy. Chandler ruled in the sarcasm area but Ross was the master in both humour and its timing.

I can imagine Monica becoming obsessed with that apartment and being so determined to clean it that it would become her "white whale" like in Moby Dick. I could definitely picture Monica lurking outside Sarah's building, wait for her to leave for work, then break into her apartment and clean it. She mentions in another episode that she has cleaned strangers' cars 🚗 parked on the street because she thought they looked too dirty 😂.
My dad always said my mum was a monica. She would sweep the front stairs of her house then the driveway and carry on up the whole road which went up very steep hill. She was unstoppable.

This is my legit first full playthrough of all the episodes/seasons which this is currently where I'm at right now and it absolutely had me in tears laughing. I had to watch this scene 3 times. David Schwimmer's comedy acting is so funny and effortless it makes it soooo much better and believable.
I went to a girls place that was just like this once.
When we found somewhere to sit, I realized there was a red powder all over the furniture.
I asked, "what's with all this red powder everywhere?"
She responded, "Oh, I found some cinnamon the other day and since I don't know how to cook with it, I just shook it around my apartment so that my place would smell like cinnamon."

I befriended a girl back in 2006 who lived in a pigsty. Her place was worse than the one shown on this episode and she had like three cats. At first I wondered if maybe she was a drug addict but later came to realize she was just dirty. Her bathtub had layers and layers of crustiness. Same with the toilet. I’ve never met another place dirtier than hers. It was a very short lived friendship but I was told by another friend that she was pregnant shortly after the last time I saw her. I hope she learned to live cleaner for her kid’s sake.
Schwimmer does NOT get enough credit for his physical comedy. AFAIC he's right there with John Ritter and Dick Van Dyke.

The ending just highlights Ross and Monica’s perspectives. Ross, despite his flaws, has high expectations from others. Monica has her own issues, but she looks at this as an opportunity to get her ODC to take over. Ross= disgusted, Monica= a challenge for her to tackle.
