So much so that even now I am still deciding whether or not I should double-dip on the Steam versions of XIII and XIII-2 (already bought Lightning Returns), even though I played them at release on the 360. I remember absolutely hating the gameplay, but I have some good memories with this trilogy (cough probably Lightning tbh cough). Maybe it's the nostalgia. Here's to hoping you do FFX and FFX-2!
I felt the same as you, man. From nostalgia I bought the combo pack from Steam and put in 50+ hours to FFXIII. When I tried to play XIII-2, I was completely burnt out and couldn't enjoy it (specifically since the battle system is essentially the same minus a pet). Of you're on the fence about buying it again, maybe consider just watching review/replay videos like this :)
My heart hurts knowing that Ramz didn't like the Savior of Souls battle track. ;A; In all seriousness, these were all fun to watch from the perspective of a person who has little FF experience. Really nice to hear stuff from someone that isn't cynical 90% of the videos. Good job. :U
Some of your outfit creations genuinely made me laugh, they look horrible and I love it. Nice job on the video, I'm so happy you covered these games as they're my personal faves :3
The game was crushing me early on. If you soldier through you can start exploiting more and it gets a lot easier, but I think the developers actually intended people to get a game over and finish on NG+
this is the only one in the series I haven't played, and I heard it was bad, but after watching this I think I will buy it on steam also FF13 is generally considered 'bad' by most FF nerds anyway and I loved it, and FF13-2 was considered worse but I still liked it so [smug emoji]
13-2 was considered worse? I heard otherwise. Either way, if you thought that the other two were even worth playing, then you will like LR. Most people actually think it's the best of the three.
“Never played Majora’s Mask” Cool, so, new series of vids on Zelda games to build up to Breath of the Wild 2? Maybe? Idk up to you but just sayin.... They’re real good
I've been looking forward to this one. XIII is probably my favourite in the series, XIII-2 (amazing soundtrack) was strong but just felt like it was missing things for me and then I only ever played 2 hours of Lightning Returns. It's been years so I can't imagine ever going back to it, so I'm glad to finally have some closure on what happened. I still kinda wish they'd left XIII's story where they did though, that or just didn't go with XIII-2's weird-ass plot.
Oh man how I waited for this video, just a little sad you didn't seem to enjoy it the way that I did. Different strokes I guess, but at least I'm overly acquainted with Noel's hands. XD Great video, though I would suggest doing a mini episode covering how new game+ works as it's almost another game.
Did you know that there's actually a timed hits mechanic to the combat system? I didn't figure this out until my first new game+, but if you hit the attack button again after your attack lands, the next attack will do more damage and stagger. you're doing it right if you hear a chime and Lightning flashes briefly. The button timing is a bit different with magic with having to time your presses with the casting animation, and this doesn't work if you're trying to input after a long animation attack like the -aga spells, which act more like finishers. The extra button presses really made the combat more engaging for me.
Square sure doesn’t seem to like their black characters huh? Sazh getting screwed over everytime, Barrett being constantly ignored in almost all of the FFVII spinoffs and him and Red being the ONLY FFVII characters not referenced in any way in any KH game, and he only just recently as far as I know got added to Opera Omnia his FIRST appearance in the Dissidia series
What are you talking about. I love the time they make saving his son the main way to get him In the plot three times. It's not like they could try do anything else with him. Like getting him to talk with vanillie or the other characters.
There's one thing you need to understand. The franchise isn't racist. Quit posting racist things that would otherwise sway those innocent people who didn't even think about it. One comment can fill hate in many minds and that's why, you should never post racist things like that, even if you're accusing others.
@@zigslotheon okay but people don't know that… not everyone will come to find out if it's a joke or not. All I'm saying is even humourous bits can be a spark towards racist feelings… I know it's not a big deal to make fun on these topics. But there are people who will start getting the wrong ideas. Not everyone is intelligent in our generation and we have to be careful with our words.
I played this trilogy in a strange order: 2, LR then XIII. Bought 2 after watching someone review it and the gameplay looked really fun to me. Then LR released so I bought that one and I got XIII afterwards for really cheap. Out of the 3, LR was my favourite, I really enjoyed the combat, making different OP builds and the many side quests and ambiance that reminded me of Majora's Mask (ie, my favourite game). I got the trilogy on Steam during the last sales for pennies and am currently replaying through the first game. I'm actually surprised by how good the gameplay of 1 is. They may have improved on the formula with every iteration, but the base gameplay was really solid (aside from paradygm shift that takes way too long). I'm by no means a FF fan, turn-based combat always put me off from those games (aside from those, only played 15, 14 and 3, and I didn't even finish 3), but I had a great time with this trilogy and it's what made me look forward to other games of the series.
I think a lot of the best parts of the storytelling in this game were contained in the side quests. A lot of real tear-jerkers and bittersweet stories in there.
The time limit is what sold this game to me, because I loved Majora's mask so much Never played og FFXIII OR XIII-2

This was the first final fantasy I played, I enjoyed a lot after this I played xiii and xiii-2. And since then they are my favorite saga of games! XIII and lightning returns are my favorites!
Lightis is a huge ship because FFXV was supposed to be in the XIII universe like 60 years ago when it initially got announced lmao I honestly never thought they were gonna make a third so I didn't take it seriously at all going into it and I think that helped me enjoy the game so much more when it came out. Plus the outfit style combat mechanic just really threw me off so I couldn't have taken it seriously even if I wanted to, but it's a good game honestly, just don't expect too much of it
13-2 is my favorite, but the qol changes in LR and just how much fun LR is makes it a very close second. (I haven't played the original 13, but I get the gist). My absolute favorite Final Fantasy games and I am glad to find someone who loves them as well! Lightning, Serah, Noel and Mog are the best!
I think you might be the first XIII fan I’ve met who liked the second the most. For me it was all about Lightning Returns - love that game. The combat and the quests were sooooo goooood. Best soundtrack for me? First one. Least fave was 2... it didn’t do anything for me personally but it’s all so subjective yknow?
The previous two game did not set me up for LR. I made each outfit like a paradigm: one outfit for Ravager, one outfit for Commando, and one for Sentinel. I finished two areas before I realized I should probably make changes to my setup.
Loved the costumes of Lightning Returns But I honestly felt that Final Fantasy XIII-2 was the better game out of the 3 of them. If I wanted to play one of these games again, I would play XIII-2 for the alternative endings, while coming back to Lightning Returns just for getting as many costumes as I can. I agree with you towards the end of the video, Lumina should have been a playable character with Lightning as her personality would have been perfect to bounce off those dialogues. At least Chocolina had some funny moments with Lightning.
FF XIII Lightning returns was my first FF game ever, and honestly trough the first part of it I was like "Who the heck are you?Who the heck is this other guy?Why the heck is your name Hope? Why is everyone sad?" it was a wild ride.
I just discoverd ur channel ! i love the videos u did on the 13 series :D I feel the same way about LR with the timer, i cant do well being under prssure >< so i ended up playing on easy on my first playthrough
As much as I loved 13-2 I couldn't bring myself to play much of 13-3, the timer was just too stressful and I like taking my sweet sweet time playing games.
I used a trainer program to let me just freeze time indefinitely in-game the first time I actually did a full playthrough of it. Yeah, it was cheating or whatever, but it helped my anxiety a lot and after beating it the first time and realizing just how much time the game really gives, it was fairly easy to do a second playthrough with the timer running normally.
The one I used is called "Wemod" and I recommend it if the timer makes you anxious but you feel like trying this game out again. I do feel like it's worth it.
In the months leading to the game release I was surprised. Every new info or trailer had me going "omg sooo cool!", while the average comment was "booo".
"Imagine playing this game first and not knowing who the characters are" i did the ff13 in a weird order. which was FFLR, FFXIII, and then FFXIII-2. so for Lighting Returns. i didnt know who the any of these guys are. i just thiught that noel was just the shadow killer and not a main character of XXIII-2, and the devolving characters thing you said was absolutely correct.
I actually enjoyed lightning returns the most out of the 3 games because mostly of the atmosphere and gameplay. The story was almost always secondary when I played the 13 series except for 2 ofc, even my blackened heart enjoyed that from stem to stern.
I cant believe you didn't mention the coolest part of the game. The fact that you can wipe out every monster species in the game. I cant think of a single other RPG that lets you hunt all the monsters till they are extinct. Each species even has a tough fight with the last of their kind and great rewards for beating them.
THE REASON FOR WHY HOPE IS IN A YOUNGER FORM is a punishment from bheuni for telling snow that lightning was coming so he turned him into a purer form also cause he wants to kill and possess him and use his body to walk among man
I've always thought that the game would've been a lot more interesting had Caius joined the party and Lightning's quest of saving souls. Having him fighting alongside her would've been dope. It would also give him more of a purpose to the story (Although he is already very important since had he not meddled with the timeline, the heroes wouldn't be able to live in a New World). Imagine the hilarious possibilities of banter between ex-enemies, and some of the side quests, such as the finding the Yusnaan chocobo chicks one. Just a purple brooding 6'4 guy walking around with little chocobo chicks on his shoulders.

20:58 Your commentary synced perfectly when cid was talking lol
Ramzaes , you put so much work into these videos it's amazing . Love your videos man
Thank you!
My heart hurts knowing that Ramz didn't like the Savior of Souls battle track. ;A;
In all seriousness, these were all fun to watch from the perspective of a person who has little FF experience. Really nice to hear stuff from someone that isn't cynical 90% of the videos. Good job. :U
That was my favorite battle track in this game so I I'm also slightly sad too.
Some of your outfit creations genuinely made me laugh, they look horrible and I love it. Nice job on the video, I'm so happy you covered these games as they're my personal faves :3
That Serah's mask tho
I did learn something new in this video though, what happens when you run out of time. Never had that happen to me.
Just a cutscene of the world exploding
"i know that's Noel, I'm really aquainted with his hands"
Persona 4 Voice: oh yeah?
I watched all 3 and enjoyed every moment.
I've played this game many times on PC. It's good if not great.
And lastly, am I the only one who loves Lighting?
Yuna's outfit was legit busted... Seriously damn what were they thinking?
And yes, one of the best FF games gameplay wise
Perfect timing; I was just playing through this game for the first time ever, before giving up after the 8 hour mark.
The game was crushing me early on. If you soldier through you can start exploiting more and it gets a lot easier, but I think the developers actually intended people to get a game over and finish on NG+
this is the only one in the series I haven't played, and I heard it was bad, but after watching this I think I will buy it on steam
also FF13 is generally considered 'bad' by most FF nerds anyway and I loved it, and FF13-2 was considered worse but I still liked it so [smug emoji]
13-2 was considered worse? I heard otherwise. Either way, if you thought that the other two were even worth playing, then you will like LR. Most people actually think it's the best of the three.
Just for the combat alone I would play this game until the heat death of the universe.
@@foxspiritkage7438 You aren't alone, I love the combat.
FFXIII-Trilogy are a set of games I really enjoyed my time with that I have 0 interest in going back to.
no it isnt
“Never played Majora’s Mask”
Cool, so, new series of vids on Zelda games to build up to Breath of the Wild 2? Maybe? Idk up to you but just sayin....
They’re real good
nah :P
RamZaes D:
@@CheesyRam Any plans to make more videos on p3 and 4?
@@killmydread He already did.
@@Samm815 I mean he didn't finish them
I've been looking forward to this one.
LR is the best of the 3 tho
Oh man how I waited for this video, just a little sad you didn't seem to enjoy it the way that I did.
Different strokes I guess, but at least I'm overly acquainted with Noel's hands. XD
Great video, though I would suggest doing a mini episode covering how new game+ works as it's almost another game.
Man, I'm still waiting for Red XIII in Opera Omnia.
There's one thing you need to understand. The franchise isn't racist. Quit posting racist things that would otherwise sway those innocent people who didn't even think about it. One comment can fill hate in many minds and that's why, you should never post racist things like that, even if you're accusing others.
Violet Moon It’s joke
@@zigslotheon okay but people don't know that… not everyone will come to find out if it's a joke or not.
All I'm saying is even humourous bits can be a spark towards racist feelings…
I know it's not a big deal to make fun on these topics.
But there are people who will start getting the wrong ideas.
Not everyone is intelligent in our generation and we have to be careful with our words.
I'm playing for all the Hopurai moments~ XD , and I am happy~ sadly , the english translation did not do it justice~
Bhunivelze's final boss theme is by far the most epic thing I've ever heard in orchestra 😳😅
Divine Love or Almighty Bhunivelze ? Or both xD?
I love them by the way
might be the most avant garde video game music tracks ever. I love it and listen to it frequently.
Never understood why people call it stressful, I did everything in the game in 1 run without breaking a sweat.
Light: That was by far the most embarrassing thing I've ever done in my life.
RamZaes: Let's do that again!
Light: :(
xD
Ah, yes. TES Skyrim ll : Lightning returns
It just works
Godd Howard
Video: Long story short, l prefer XIII-2.
Me: same
Definitely my favorite of the trilogy, mainly because of the combat and the cheesy nature of the story.
I really liked Sazh... he actually felt like a real person in the first game, plus who doesn't love that he can have 2 sawed off shotguns?
I'm by no means a FF fan, turn-based combat always put me off from those games (aside from those, only played 15, 14 and 3, and I didn't even finish 3), but I had a great time with this trilogy and it's what made me look forward to other games of the series.
just noticed lightning looks very familiar to noctis
I think a lot of the best parts of the storytelling in this game were contained in the side quests. A lot of real tear-jerkers and bittersweet stories in there.
Lightning is best girl. Thank you FF13.
So good to hear your voice
Great video as always😍
The time limit is what sold this game to me, because I loved Majora's mask so much
Never played og FFXIII OR XIII-2
This was the first final fantasy I played, I enjoyed a lot after this I played xiii and xiii-2. And since then they are my favorite saga of games! XIII and lightning returns are my favorites!
Didn't think I'd say that, but your video actually makes me want to revisit the game!
I knew it! I just knew you'd do great things with garb customization!
FFXIII's biggest mistake was that it took 3 games to finally get the happy ending we should have gotten at the end of the first game.
10:52 the FF7 fanfare my ringtone, and the sfx in game also indistinguishable from my ringtome
I love the lightning saga
The timer is stressful
Me: Laughs in WEMOD.
God I love this game. You aren't a fan unless you max out elementaga.
Loved the costumes of Lightning Returns
But I honestly felt that Final Fantasy XIII-2 was the better game out of the 3 of them.
Why is everyone sad?" it was a wild ride.
so ...CHAOS huh?
You should make a video of the Zero Escape series, since you are using them as a reference
I was shook by your clothing choices for lightning 🤣😅. For the entire game I played with a mostly clothed lightning. Black mage, red mage, samurai 😅
Atleast we never lost Hope.
I absolutely love the FFXIII trilogy as well as these videos. Good job man. You gain 1 subscriber. Ha.
Oh boy a final fantasy video by ramzaes best thing to cure boredom
In the months leading to the game release I was surprised. Every new info or trailer had me going "omg sooo cool!", while the average comment was "booo".
I just discovered your series! I’m stoked this just came out!
"Imagine playing this game first and not knowing who the characters are"
i did the ff13 in a weird order. which was FFLR, FFXIII, and then FFXIII-2. so for Lighting Returns. i didnt know who the any of these guys are. i just thiught that noel was just the shadow killer and not a main character of XXIII-2, and the devolving characters thing you said was absolutely correct.
Easily my favorite of the trilogy and one of the very few video games I felt compelled to complete all the sidequests
Awesome video ramzees😃
Just found the channel and I really love your content so far, keep up the good work fam!
THE REASON FOR WHY HOPE IS IN A YOUNGER FORM is a punishment from bheuni for telling snow that lightning was coming so he turned him into a purer form also cause he wants to kill and possess him and use his body to walk among man
I am surprised that there isn't any Final Fantasy XIII RUclips Poops.
Some of these editing can be real classics.
Very cool ! I'm really anticipating when you'll get to the more old school Final Fantasy like the PS1 and SNES era... If you looking to get there.
Thank god for the Remake.
My lightning💖
Bestgirl Chocolina is back!
🐓🐓🐓
First Final Fantasy game I played. Been waiting for this one!
This was your FIRST?! You have missed out on a LOT.
