I still have the small box Warner rental of Batman Returns (PEV). Warner Home Video in the UK dished out Batman Returns on both Rental and Retail simultaneously. This happened with Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and JFK. But JFK had a big box rental sleeve. It all goes back to Rain Man in the late 1980's. Warner experimented with rental/retail releases together, Rain Man marked a successful marketing campaign that delivered a good outcome for Warner/Parkfield who promoted Rain Man on retail. Warner put a small rectangle box on the front of the sleeve indicating Rental or retail. After JFK, Warner never ventured further with retail/rental crossovers in the UK.

Batman 89 to me is still the best batman movie and always will be. Never liked batman returns just not a fan of the penguin he's never been a batman villain I've ever liked wished they'd gone with one of the other baddies instead maybe mr freeze or Two face we would've had better serious versions of them as the second film was also a tim burton film with his gothicness. But I do like batman forever its my second favourite batman movie but its just let down by Tommy Lee Jones's version of two face as he's just doing a joker.

89 and Returns are my favourites, mostly for Keaton's Batman though

I like 1989 movie it kinda a bit more of violence with Jack Nicholson (Joker) I'll say not too sure?
