Hi Steve, this is goingbto be a great build to watch, so far you have done a great job and I look forward to the next update, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia 👍👍👍👍
Based on the build sequence on this kit so far Mr Steve, I will definitely be ordering one for a future build. I need to finish up all my unfinished projects before I start a new one. I learn something new from you on every build of yours.
I know there’s a ton of talk about a lack of an engine. Personally, I’m fine with that… two reasons, 1 I’m thankful that Kotaire was born from the old Wingnut wings crew and at the end of the day it’s a business and they have to start somewhere with probably a tight budget. 2, that fit is sublime! I can’t wait to get cracking on my build of it! Thank you Steve for another great review and build!
Great start! The detail looks better than the Tamiya Mk VIII I have in my stash, and with a lot fewer parts! If the fit of the cockpit parts are any indication, the rest of the build is going to be almost filler free. Looking forward to the next upload! Thanks again!
Reference your query on the position of the rudder pedals. I’m sure I read somewhere that spitfires were parked with a rudder input. I think you’ll find the rudder assembly will be off centre to match the pedals.
I see Kotare as the "Pheonix that risen from the ashes", and they have the potential to be far greater then Wingnuts, for one they are free from the personal demands of Sir Pete and can therefore make subjects that aren't vanity projects.
Just a heads up Steve; I watched another detailed build and the addition of the colour coat did seem to have an effect on the fit, particularly around the area of the rear frames. Removing the paint on the contact edges did the trick.
Didn’t know that Mick - there were several types of Merlin - the MK1 had the Merlin III I think and the Lancaster series 20 Merlins. The main block will be similar but it’s likely that the supercharger and ancillaries were different. I’m sure there will be a Brassin engine for this before long.
G'day mate, yet again your giving us a master class in model building! I do have 1 suggestion and a question, firstly, when you drilled out the holes in the frame, why did you give them a swipe with some extra thin cement? Secondly, my suggestion, for those annoying ejector pin marks, I punch out some disks from styrene, as close to the diameter and depth of the holes. Then I give them a tiny bit of filler to blend them in, and therefore don't have to worry about "shrinkage" :)
Fantastic kit, fantastic fit. Even though it's only the cockpit the engineering shows. Does Kotare give the diameter for the control cables? If so will you use Easy Line or fine copper wire. Keep up the great work.
I'm on the fence with this one, I just don't like that there's no engine, and even if there was, I'd have the satisfaction of knowing I built it and it's hidden behind the cowls... I think I'd still consider the Airfix 1/24th scale over this one.
Are you going to review the engine - the inconic _Merlin_ engine in part 2? You reviewed only the first 117 kit parts here. Surely, you'll review all the rest - must be hundreds more! - in part 2 as well?
Very droll. They’d have charged another £30 for an engine and I wouldn’t have wanted to ruin the lines anyway by opening it up. The kit doesn’t suit everyone but I think they got it right.
Outstanding. I learned so much from your “dry filling” techniques. As a beginner I appreciate your patience with followers like me. Thank you. EBD.
No problem Eric - this hobby is about patience.
Great part one; I'm hooked. The straightforward assembly process must be a pleasant respite from the photoetch intensity of the Bismarck.
Absolutely John I can’t wait to get out there every morning it’s a pleasure to build
Great start Steve, I'm looking forward to seeing the detail painting of the cockpit.
It’s a lot of work Steve but it’s shaping up nicely

thank you I think it’s up there with the Tamiya mosquito for fit - very satisfying to hear all those clicks.
Nice to follow this new project with your advices and your great expertise 🙏
thank you Laurent 🙏
Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed your process of building.
you’re welcome
Great start Steve, looks like an interesting kit.
it is Phillip I’m loving it

The Tamiya MkIX is a great kit for sure but there’s a lot less work with this one
Love and Admire your work in Detroit Limey, your the Best! 💪👍
👍
im loving watching your build amazing ,thank you so much for sharing .
You’re welcome Neil 👍
Love it! I just received my 1/48 Eduard Spitfire Mk1a as I watched this. Now I'm wanting a bigger one...lol.
😂😬
Thank you for part 1 looking forward to starting mine soon
Good luck with it Bill it I don’t think you’ll need it 😃
Off to a great start, Really looking forward to this series.
Me too Peter👍

You’re right Mark it is 👍
Looks fantastic and I can’t wait for mine to arrive at my supplier in uk
You’ll enjoy it I think Chris

Hope so Shane if this one’s anything to go by they’re on the right track
Good start Steve, great fit, I am waiting for the 1939 early to be released with two blade prop. Should be a good addition the cabinet...........👌
That would be nice Alan - I’d like a Vc myself
There is a modeler who put it together wiyjout glue and you couldnt tell. Lol. He took it apart. Amazing fit.
I can believe that 👍
It was Beckers models
I wonder if the later LG retraction motor is already included in the kit. Late Mk1s and all follow up had this...
Don’t think so - I’ll see what’s left on the sprues when I’m done.
great work on the cockpit, pity they couldn,t use the merlin from the defunct lancaster ,thats if it was the right engine
I think they were Packard Merlin’s Mick - quite a bit different to these
Hope you are going to install the rigging. Would be god to follow that along, also the HGW harness assembly.
I’ve got some fine nickel rod for the control cables so that should work
@@TheModelShed do you mind telling me the diameter? I want to do that and would appreciate you showing the process on your video.
It’s 0.2mm. The instructions call out 0.15 but what’s 0.05mm between friends.
Just a heads up Steve; I watched another detailed build and the addition of the colour coat did seem to have an effect on the fit, particularly around the area of the rear frames. Removing the paint on the contact edges did the trick.
thanks Phil I guessed as much
thanks for reply, there both in the border model kit merlin and packard

thanks for reply steve ,but i think your right to show an engine it would spoil the lines of the aircraft

New Project- great!!!
👍👍
Steve, do we know why Wing Nut Wings failed? Was it to do with personality clashes?
Not sure Finlay I guess there were all sorts of conspiracy theories

yes 0.15 - I’m going to use nickel wire in mine

Having no engine was a plus for me John - it just shows the dilemma manufacturers have in satisfying us all 🤔🤔
@@TheModelShed Yes were are a hard bunch to satisfy.😁
22:25 I think a seperate engine(in the kit or sold seperately) next to the plane would be a good compromise...
Good idea Detlev 👍

Even if there was an engine included in the kit it would still be too expensive for me. Looks like a nice kit though.
I get that Paul - it is a lot of money for 117 parts but the build experience is worth it for me.
Glad I didn't buy it. If I cocked up a kit with perfect fit I'd never be able to live it down!
😂😂😂😂 loved that 👍👍👍
