  • On March 21, 2023, Tanzania government officials declared the first Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) outbreak within the Kagera region. CDC’s Tanzania country office worked with partners to immediately offer support in surveillance, epidemiology, and data management. In partnership with Amref, CDC shares a remarkable story of a dedicated Community Health Worker (CHW) from Tanzania, who played a significant role in reporting the MVD outbreak in her community. The courageous actions of the CHW triggered a rapid response from the Ministry of Health in Tanzania, leading to preventing the spread of the virus worldwide.
