The best knife I have so far, and I have put it thru my hell, I have kept it razor sharp.

I scored this blade last year and it must have been one of their last because it was out of stock when I checked again. It was either from BladeHQ or Knife Center. I like the RD line. I have all four now, the RD6, RD7, RD9 DG and RD Tanto. I also have the BK9 and it's a great blade, but my biggest gripe is the skeletonized handles. I have seen the BK9 break at the stress point under the scales where the material is cut out! I don't know why Becker does this. It's not saving that much weight and I would think they would save money but not going through the extra step of cutting out handle material and therefore making the BK9 stronger. So the RD line does not have a skeletonized handle tang and that 1/4" 5160 is awesome. The RD7 I have does have the serrations but I am going to modify since I don't like finger choils. So I will grind out the serrations by hand up to the halfway point on the finger choil. This would do two things, give the blade a belly and add more edge to the blade (the sharpened part of the blade would start at the halfway point of the finger choil). Another thing, get some RD rounded, better contoured G10 scales from The Knife Connection as they have a ton of color options and I got the blaze orange on all of mine.

Just found possibly one of the last stock of RD9’s on the ‘Bay for $78 shipped after taxes. Incredible performance to price ratio on this knife, possible one of the best in that regard. Well worth the money, pretty sure these were disco’d years ago. I got big ass hands, so the handle ain’t too much of an issue for my hands. I’m going to pick a set of TKC scales for my new rig. I feel that G-10 is a proper and strong scale material for a blade this serious. The factory scales aren’t durable enough for hard use in my opinion. They do this beast of a knife a disservice. Subscribed.

    • @Ruger44Redhawk

The reason I replaced my BK9 with this RD9 is because of the handle tang. Take the scales off the BK9 and you'll be disappointed. The handle tang is skeletonized! Why Becker would do that is beyond me because I've seen them break at that weak point. Is the BK9 a good blade? Hell yes. But I don't want hard use blades to have skeletonized handles. So, the RD9 doesn't have skeletonized tang and is also thicker at 1/4" vs. the BK9 at 3/16". Also, The Knife Connection makes some badass G10 replacement grips for the RD line. I got the orange for the RD6, RD7, RD9 and RD Tanto.
