Here's a thought on your backrest -- you probably need a mounting bracket for it. I just got a H-D backrest for my standard Road Glide, and (with the backrest I got) I also had to buy and install a separate mounting bracket. The bracket mounts solidly to the frame, and the metal part of the backrest (the "post" that you installed on the backrest) fits inside the bracket. In my case the bracket is adjustable front-to-back, and the various notches in the bottom of the backrest post will adjust the height of the backrest. You may need to contact Saddlemen for a bracket that is made for their backrest. Good Luck!

Saddlemen doesn't use the backrest bracket, it's all built in, and they blow the harley seats outa the water once broken in.

John it’s built into the seat, and it has the same adjustments. I had a Harley-Davidson seat with a back rest, so I do understand what you’re stating. However the Saddlemen Roadsofa has a built in bracket for their back rest too. Provides superior comfort, and craftsmanship. Their customer service are quick to resolve issues that my arise too.

Now live in central NC and it's just right all year.. gets hot in summer but not too bad and gets cold in the winter but not prohibitively and it snows maybe once possibly twice a year. The fall is still beautiful with the colors and you get all the seasons but you can ride almost all year.

I have had saddlemen road sofa extended reach with backrest seats on my last 5 Harley Davidson Touring bikes and have ridden over 175,000 on them. I agree with everything you said regarding break in times and the build quality. I have literally owned 99 motorcycles in the last fifty years of riding and have tried many custom seats and the only ones I have purchased multiple times are the Saddleman Road Sofa Extended Reach with backrest and the Russel Day long seats. The Russel looks like a couple vintage tractor seats grafted on to a Harley. So saddleman wins again. I liked todays video format and I would think it would go over well during bad weather for you. Let’s see some install videos on Appa’s new parts!!! Keep up the good work!!!

I don't have the one with the backrest, as I got mine used from a friend who tried it on his bike and it did not work out. Eventually I'll probably upgrade to the backrest one, but I've taken two long trips on mine so far and not a bit of soreness. Took a bit of getting used to how it felt, but within about 100 miles it was like I'd never ridden on anything else.

Jess, I like the vlog, even on four wheels. I personally had a huge change on my previous BMW GS when I got a secondhand Sargent seat, which didn’t look very comfy, but put simply it made the seat into a large pan that cupped the whole behind and therefore spread the weight across the entire backside and made for a much more comfortable riding experience. I have not heard of Saddlemen seats for GS’s, but your new Sofa looks like it is going to do the same as the Sargent by supporting more of your bottom. Enjoy.

That new Road Sofa looks AWESOME! However I'm almost certain (like you mentioned) that the backrest is not in correctly. There should be some sort of metal sleeve/slot down inside the opening through the top of the seat and you may have to wiggle the backrest around inside to find it then once it's aligned push it in firmly. That's usually how they work but I've never had one of those so not certain but that would be my guess. Anyways, that's very exciting and I actually had no idea they even offered a seat with a built-in backrest that's aftermarket - that is so cool! I will definitely be checking those out to see if they have anything that fits any of my bikes! Another great video, as always so thanks for sharing! Ride Safe Jess! 😀

My Saddleman seat, on my 2007 Harley Davidson Fatboy, has the gel in both seating areas. Saddleman said it would take around 600 miles to break in. It took around 800 miles on my seat, and it was much better after a couple of 1,000 miles. I also have the back rest for the rider. I never use it as the seat has enough height at the back that I don't really need the backrest. I hope you enjoy your new seat. Keep the videos coming and stay safe on the road. L.H.&R.

I've since changed to an explorer saddlemen because of the slight back support so I didn't keep sliding off and its amazing super happy with the quality of it. Cosmetic upgrades are eye candy. Suspension upgrades are where it really counts. That and riding lessons haha. Seat looks fantastic!

A backrest can be nice for a long ride. I have a backrest on my H-D Ultra and my Victory Kingpin. I don't go on long rides much anymore so they don't get used too often but are pretty nice to have a little more support when you need it.

Love my saddle men seat. Surprised you didn’t go for the step up with a back rest

I love my Road Sofa and backrest, your back will thank you even on the shortest of journeys. You have adjusted your seat before so you know what's coming, adjustment on pretty much everything forward from it. Highway pegs, shifter, bars, controls, windshield etc etc. Always recommend people do the seat first if they want to customize their bike as it sets your reach and height for everything else.

I'm sure you've adjusted the backrest since the video, if not though don't be afraid to stick your fingers in the crack it goes into and feel for the metal slot it slides into it. Took me a bit to find it but now can do it no problem, it sets a bit more forward than you'd expect.

Hi Jess, I bought a Saddlemen Explorer seat for my Sport Glide and it was comfortable from day 1. Love the video format but I have always enjoyed your videos from day one anyway
