  • "Tokyo File 212" is a 1951 spy thriller crime noir movie set in the cold war era of 1950's Japan. Classic film noir, this is not. A fast moving espionage crime drama filmed in the noir style is what it is. I think it's a great little B movie. by - Broken Trout -

@1:02:26 Now that is some barback service right there!
Wipe the table, lift the passed-out patron's head up off the table by the hair, wipe his face with the rag the table was wiped with, placing the head gently and deliberately, back up on the table.
    Efficient service, plain and simple.

Sometimes you need to go back to move forward But frankly, there is nothing out there worth making an effort to watch right now!. Mr. Trout has some of the highest quality and hardest-to-find films. I would rank him second or third on the whole tube when it comes to the Noir Genre.
      Many Thanks, Sir!

Thank You Broken Trout for this look into the Korean War and Japan conflicts in politics and operatives. Commies always out to sabotage democracy and capitalism. This is an ongoing battle. But not only a matter of social systems like communism, as much as power, money, sovereignty and autocracy against democracy. Know your enemy is a theme throughout. Fools trying to find themselves. Good portrayal of this conflict.

Enjoyed the movie. IMDB noted that it was a joint American and Japanese production, and the legitimate Japanese footage and atmosphere was terrific, satisfyingly legitimate - they really went the extra mile, and a lot of the cinematography was just plain delicious. Loved Robert Peyton and Florence Marly - they were very convincing. Altogether a very good postwar mystery-thriller. Thank you for posting.

What a gem this one is. You get a tour of Tokyo out and about on the streets when the times there prim and proper for everyone and we will never see this type of behavior ever again in The U>S. Lots of quality filming in this one along with a plot that keeps it moving right along. Trout always finds the good stuff and it's greatly appreciated~!!

mildly interesting for the location shooting and japanese actors - and for charming Czech-born Florence Marly - who i've never noticed before - also making an impression was Tetsu Nakamura as the chief villain - Tetsu had the best english of the japanese actors for good reason - he was born and raised in canada and didn't arrive in japan until his late 20s - - another good english speaker played the protagonist's elusive college-mate Taro - he was played by Hawaiian-born Katsuhiko Haida
it was surprising how much japanese was spoken without translation - which assumed the audience was smart enuf to get the gist - that made it momentarily seem strange in the few times in scenes with only japanese characters that they spoke english - but it was a wise decision - and respectful that the audience would realize why - and not be jolted by it
the acting by Robert Peyton (aka Lee Frederick) in the lead role was adequate - but he utterly lacked screen presence - which may explain why he got away with 2 different stage names - Marly didn't deserve to be forgotten - while he deserved to fade into obscurity - - but Tokyo endures

Not a great flick; but a good one: a good old anti-communist movie! For me, the best moment was when the father stood up to his deceived son and tried to reclaim him. Great courage and fatherly love in an old man!
