- "Tokyo File 212" is a 1951 spy thriller crime noir movie set in the cold war era of 1950's Japan. Classic film noir, this is not. A fast moving espionage crime drama filmed in the noir style is what it is. I think it's a great little B movie. by - Broken Trout -
Boy, the opening music is way over the top!
@1:02:26 Now that is some barback service right there!
Wipe the table, lift the passed-out patron's head up off the table by the hair, wipe his face with the rag the table was wiped with, placing the head gently and deliberately, back up on the table.
Efficient service, plain and simple.
lol
just wanted to see postwar Tokyo, story was a bonus
a quick paced little espionage movie, well done ... thanks for the upload "BT"
Good movie BT. Thanks for bringing this unusual backdrop of post war Japan and a B+ plot the surroundings made interesting.
Sometimes you need to go back to move forward But frankly, there is nothing out there worth making an effort to watch right now!. Mr. Trout has some of the highest quality and hardest-to-find films. I would rank him second or third on the whole tube when it comes to the Noir Genre.
Many Thanks, Sir!
an ambitious Asian espionage B movie that is worth watching.
Kamakazi class scene was interesting.
Thank you I enjoyed that❤❤❤
those dames of the time! ...wow!
It was an era of manly men, and of "dames" and "broads." No feminism, no political correctness. . . .
Thank You Broken Trout for this look into the Korean War and Japan conflicts in politics and operatives. Commies always out to sabotage democracy and capitalism. This is an ongoing battle. But not only a matter of social systems like communism, as much as power, money, sovereignty and autocracy against democracy. Know your enemy is a theme throughout. Fools trying to find themselves. Good portrayal of this conflict.
My Uncle Frank served on General McArthurs staff during this time.
Fantastic ending. Glad I stuck with it.👍
The best part of this movie is seeing actual post war Japan in the background.
props
The movie itself is awfully awful.
Enjoyed the movie. IMDB noted that it was a joint American and Japanese production, and the legitimate Japanese footage and atmosphere was terrific, satisfyingly legitimate - they really went the extra mile, and a lot of the cinematography was just plain delicious. Loved Robert Peyton and Florence Marly - they were very convincing. Altogether a very good postwar mystery-thriller. Thank you for posting.
It's a pleasure to watch this movie, extremely well written, played and made easy to producer, director and other artists to make this film awesome. ❤
This movie was indeed a pleasant surprise! Many thanks BT. Happy new year :)
You too Constantina.
@@BrokenTrout Thanks. BT two years later. A great 👍 2022 to you !
Jim is going back for Steffi. I would too.
A rare Godzilla free day in Tokyo.
🤣🤣🤣
Queue up Blue Oyster Cult! "Oh no! There goes Tokyo...Go Go Godzilla!"
Godzilla was the BEST, they always showed the exact amount of him that didn’t overdue it & as far as monsters went, I always felt bad for him & I saw a cuteness to his face, just don’t repeat that to anyone
The movie is fabulous.❤
Why do they always have crazy ass loud music at the beginning of these movies?
The guy cleaning the table top, and man's face reminds me of eating lunch at Jack in the box in Kirkland, WA. Every time I would eat there, some worker would always mop the floor right under where I was sitting.i always thought " Why Now??".
Agree- intro is way too loud, but I found it a good example of soundtrack composition. You’re right, could have been more subtle.
I agree. Everytime l turn the volume down. They must think we are deaf.
Yeah a true Spy Noir from the 50's ...
he! he! he! Frankie :) we meet again :) happy new year old friend :)
A good intelligent spy movie helped by been filmed in Japan, thanks for posting.
@10:40 the Virgin Wood bar looked entertaining.
Good short flick. Tku for upload.
What a gem this one is. You get a tour of Tokyo out and about on the streets when the times there prim and proper for everyone and we will never see this type of behavior ever again in The U>S. Lots of quality filming in this one along with a plot that keeps it moving right along. Trout always finds the good stuff and it's greatly appreciated~!!
Thank you for the great review Rickarama Trama. I do appreciate the comments and people taking the time to watch when there is so much other stuff to view.
Thank U.👍
The psychology of a kamikaze warrior - from fascist to communist: Brilliant!
mildly interesting for the location shooting and japanese actors - and for charming Czech-born Florence Marly - who i've never noticed before - also making an impression was Tetsu Nakamura as the chief villain - Tetsu had the best english of the japanese actors for good reason - he was born and raised in canada and didn't arrive in japan until his late 20s - - another good english speaker played the protagonist's elusive college-mate Taro - he was played by Hawaiian-born Katsuhiko Haida
it was surprising how much japanese was spoken without translation - which assumed the audience was smart enuf to get the gist - that made it momentarily seem strange in the few times in scenes with only japanese characters that they spoke english - but it was a wise decision - and respectful that the audience would realize why - and not be jolted by it
the acting by Robert Peyton (aka Lee Frederick) in the lead role was adequate - but he utterly lacked screen presence - which may explain why he got away with 2 different stage names - Marly didn't deserve to be forgotten - while he deserved to fade into obscurity - - but Tokyo endures
Not a great flick; but a good one: a good old anti-communist movie! For me, the best moment was when the father stood up to his deceived son and tried to reclaim him. Great courage and fatherly love in an old man!
I didn't know Californian lawyer Melvin Belli made films too.
Like they say in ARMY Intelligence "life is like a box of chocolates".....Patton should have gotten his way in ww2 , this crap in Korea would have never happened.
Uhh... how did WW2 Japan get classified Navy films? I don't think so
Good show worth watching
👍👍👍
A lot of Japanese must have been bummed when they realized they could have conquered the barbarians by selling them reliable cars with good gas mileage. My extended family member said she found it 'immaculate.'
Nice change using Japanese backdrop.
I thought so also @E F
Just goes to show you how many more great films could have been made in occupied Japan if somebody had decided to start up a full scale production company.. there there were a lot of great Japanese actors just waiting for their chance probably.
That suit is a ripper! Not to mention those shoes, ewww.
quick paced
The names Pants James Highpants.
A coal fired steam cab .
The story was like pulling hens teeth.
Very much a B movie. When you come out of the cinema it's still daylight.
That main character looks like someone famous. Either Charles Bronson or Burt Reynolds. Can't remember which.
He reminds me of the lead singer of British 80s chart band The KaneGang.
Looks like neither.
Ok, an airplane driven inside a target to blow up things, where have we seen it....
Never forget.
@ oh yea, never
Sid Melton needs to be attached to this project
24:14 How is it possible for the Japanese kamikaze training school to be showing American film footages of actual kamikaze attacks?
Movie is 1951. The footage is from years earlier when the attacks were done. It's a movie : )
@ That's Hollywood for you! You bend the truth when it's convenient for the movie company.
Physics.
Movietone footage from a cinema in Mexico?
What would Jerome Brown say about the Japanese
Good movie but tired of Steffi talking in the third person!😬got old fast!
All in all good and very interesting movie!
Thank you for sharing this heart breaking story.
*_First view, first like and first comment!_*
We all knew he was going out that window, didn’t we?
This role would have been perfect for Fred MacMurray, too bad he wasn't in it.
That colonel is so phoney
Quite a good film. Notice the high waist band on mens trousers!!!
Classy duds, I love the hats myself.
Tedious. Dry as dust. Wooden acting. Tacky settings. Irritating background music.
So bad it's good.
A little hyperbolic in the narration. Unprofessional and overpropagandized. But it WAS war propaganda film genre.
We DO find modern K-Pop to be superior music.
It is Tequila which confers a greater sense of immortality than Sake, or even Shoju.
However, none of the pickling compounds have been shown to endow eternal life; nor have we been contacted by nail clippings as to whether they have attained heavenly bliss.
Fashion wasn't great for men in those days, that jacket around 10.03, so ill-fitting.
Yes, much better now....baggy blue jeans hanging down to the knees, a rangy t shirt and a baseball cap!
57min. I dunno how this got passed the censors in 1952. Slaps handcuffs on here...it appears she is umm..look and figure it out yourself lol 👀
Wtetched commie dames
All over the place.
Beautiful Russian girls want to marry you.
My junk email box is still filled with this.
Good time girls….who cares about their politics ;-)
Non mi piace semplicemente perché non conosco la lingua grazie
The newspaper guy is pretty poor
Bad, really bad. Barely watchable.
Spy thriller, huh? Bar the Geisha girl performance, it's a disappointing cacophony of dull scenes, unpalatable dialogue!
good ole american chest thumping propaganda, aint nothin like it. they made a ton of this stuff in the late 40's and 50's, this one is just average.
