The studios all agreed with you in 1941. They made Alfred Hitchcock change the ending to "Suspicion" (1941). The original ending had Cary Grant playing a murderer.
He learned his lesson.Dont play bad guys after this movie because your public builds its respect for you over the years which is like a deep friendship. They want you to portray a certain character & he was fine with that sterotype.
