  • Plant Lovers I recorded this video in Oct but never got around to posting it so here it is! One of the Miltoniopsis I nearly KILLED by keeping them outside (undercover) all winter last year finally got over it's sulk long enough to bloom! And what MAGNIFICENT blooms they were! Miltoniopsis Up Country Puna has a slightly different flower form to my other Miltoniopsis orchids, but the pure white with the bold gold and red at the centre make them just stunning! And large! And perhaps you can help with the name! My label says: Miltoniopsis Up Country Puna, yet Miltoniopsis Up Country Puna 'Kea'au Star' seems to be exactly the same! Is my label simply missing the last piece of the name OR are they two different varieties?! Answers below please! You can see all my other Miltoniopsis videos on this play list: • MILTONIOPSIS ORCHIDS

You know what I love of all these YT-Channels ... one can simply enjoy plants/flowers etc. from other people 😊I hope you know what I mean. Some time ago I saw a white Miltoniopsis with a black center on Orchie Dee's channel and I was blown away but yours is topping it. 😘

Gorgeous plant, the centre is stunning. Well done you. On another point that ant wants squashing under a terracotta pot!

First off, that ant on your sweater scared me. Secondly I love your videos. Spritzing and tea in the morning is good for all of us. I love miltoniopsis. Some I’ve killed quickly some survive. I’m looking forward to more of them with more years of practice. Have a great week and thank you for sharing.

OMG!! 🤣 Matthew 👏....love your 🐜sweater!! Enjoyed your "rescue"& recovery Miltoniopsis story .👍
I also watched the other video from 9 months ago ( the yellow bloom is stunning ,wow! ). All of your Miltoniopsis are gorgeous 🧡. Looks like you cracked the code on how to successful grow this fabulous orchid. Congrats 💐.
    Thank you for sharing 🤗🌷🌸.

Another good video, well done 👏 The flowers on the Miltoniopsis that you seem to be able to buy have a larger form than ours in the UK. We do have one called Junit which is also cup shaped but the rest of ours seem smaller somehow 🤔

How odd! I do think my flower size can vary from flowering to flowering....but I think this one was particularly happy to flower!

Hi Matthew, thanks for sharing your interesting story on those miltoniopsis. :) I’ve never seen one with such a unique and beautiful flower as the Puna. The flower center reminds me of an artist’s paint palette.

I agree with your theory that "Puna" may be Hawaiian b/c I also have bought a Milt. Country Puna "Keanu Star". I think named after Keanu Reeves, whose Father and Grandparents were Hawaiian natives.

PS I sought out this particular orchid for the mask-like pattern and they're in bud this year, so I am super excited.

Thanks for watching and good luck with yours - I was curious to see what the difference might be between the two flowers?

I understand the drying nature of clay pots but in the hot time of year, if you keep it from drying out and still not soggy, the clay will have a cooling capacity for the roots.
My story with Miltoniopsis is long and sad in the beginning but an experience that in the long run was full of a learning experience. Have I gone for them again???? Not yet but that has more to do with availability. (Partially Price and size for ordered ones)

Yes, I'm a firm believer in terracotta pots but you must manage them! Luckily here there is a narrow, but available, range of varieties.

Well thanks for finding that and me! I'm in the middle of making a season by season video about Pleiones as I found them tricky! That will be ready when they bloom in spring.

    I Don't know how you've done the impossible. I had 3, killed 3.
Next year tried again with the same result - they're off the wanted list now.
Miltoniopsis and Melbourne are a bad mix IMO, Yours however is is magnificent - sure you just didn't buy it? (wink)

    • @helloplantlovers
      @helloplantlovers  2 года назад

Oh no! Well I did buy it....but as a wee thing! Believe me they have sulked for a LONG time and in terms of the space that sulking takes...the compost bin was LOOMING! But we all love a redemption story!
