  • @87MrEGA
    @87MrEGA 16 дней назад +19

    They DID NOT hire Mayo with the thought that he would be there for years to come. If so, you would have given him time and the resources to actually build a team. Kind of like what we will see them do now once they hire a new coach. And then when the new coach has some success people will dismiss the fact that Mayo was not given the same time and resources to grow as a coach.

      I'm not saying you're wrong in saying that he had a bad year. My comment focuses on the notion that he was hired with the purpose of being there for a long time. If that were the case, you would go into it assuming a 1st time head coach would have some ups and downs, especially given the roster decisions that were made. He was not great but surely a second year and an improved roster would have been a better judge of where he was at. All that to say they should just be honest and say they wanted to move in a different direction, and they have their eye on someone else. There are plenty of examples of what it looks like when an NFL team has the thought of having a long-term plan with a head coach even if we don’t agree with it. Giants, I’m looking at you today lol

He wasn’t ready for the role and everyone understood there would be growing pains and expected a bad record. However, there was an expectation that as the season went on, the team would show some kind of progress. Something similar to Campbell where the lions lost a lot in his first year+ but they were competitive in every game, established an identity, and looked better each week. The record had nothing to do with the firing, it was the actual on field product, the terrible press conferences where he routinely threw others under the bus and never took accountability, and just the simple fact that there was nothing to build on, nothing to look at and say “at least mayo did this thing well.” How can you entrust the future of your franchise to that. Also by your logic, you should keep a who can’t win more than the previous coach that failed spectacularly right?
