One of my all time favorite bands. From Cleveland but all my favorite bands are Canadian or Australian for some reason. Its too bad most people just can't enjoy bands that just play and rock the house and aren't about everything else
Australia has a great scene from the Eddy Current Suppression Ring to Total Control to UV Race and i grew up on Forgotten Rebels, Teenage Head, Dayglo's, SNFU, Simply Saucer, Viletones, QUEEN HATERS, etc. Cleveland always has a great bunch of bands. Now Thats Class is my favorite venue anywhere.
Thank you so much for recording this. I've kind of lost touch with what SMOASP were up to since Reid passed away :( Dallas really pays him tribute here.
What a wonderful band! Good crowd too. Would have loved to be there! Thanks for recording and sharing and providing the next best thing. Another reminder of the many great bands across these lands that toil away in local clubs and never really get the attention they deserve.
Thanks! I love Having an Average Weekend, but it's so great to see their entire set. Especially if you're trying to learn to play these songs! Aunt's Invasion is a monster of a song
We use to watch Kids in the Hall when it first came out and my dad and I dug the music so much we went out and bought their albums. Great band, Id love to see them live. Maybe they will come to CT ;-)
I know what you mean about bands and their private parties. I was watching Davie Allen, 3 Balls of Fire and maybe the Thunderchiefs perform at the Continental Club long ago where I may have been the only non-musician, because one of the locals outed me yelling, "Look, It's a real live Fan". I wish I could have seen Shadowy Men back then.
Agreed, I think seeing Dallas on bass was the surprise that made my night. Maybe next time they can throw some Sadies tunes into the mix. Hopefully next time; fingers crossed:)
Thanks for the heads up on where "Having An Average Weekend" was! I wad going to tune right to it but decided to hear the beginning of the set .. and found myself just listening to whole thing. I wish I could get out to where they're playing live!
Pretty impossible to love that song and not the others. People are kinda like that. I love when bands open the show with the"hit". Thins out the jackass's and shows confidence in the rest of the great songs.
Thanks for doing this. It's great to see them again (sadly minus Reid). I first saw them at the Cafe Deluxe in Ottawa around 1990. Always excellent shows!
Thanks! I was there, i think i was right behind you because i saw a guy recording the show. And I definitely thought "bless this man, now i can enjoy the show knowing I can check out the youtube video later"
I am 31 and the only excuse I had for sitting the entire evening was that I arrived at 9pm, found a good seat, and feeling particularly lazy/anti-social. By 1:30am I was ready to light up the town, though;)
So awesome! Like so many other people my age probably heard them first on Kids re-runs aired by comedy central. Now as a late twenty-something they are one of my favorite instrumental bands. "We're not a FUCKING SURF BAND!" Pure genius. Thanks!
their new box set sez it all.. "Oh, I guess we were a fucking surf band after all". Saw them last night here in San Diego in a small bar, they had great stage presence and sounded awesome.
There was a local band in my home town that did shadowy men covers, among some awesome originals.. they were called three piece suit, I guess I know where the name came from. Voth great bands.. ... if any of them ever see this... bring back three piece suit!
maybe because some of us are old and cant stand up for many hours like some of you youngin's. no wonder there was no place to sit once we got there at 9:30
they did so many 'cross the board covers, i remember a Kids in the Hall Cast Member say THEY made us cool, but the Link Ray to Misty covers made them the most listenable instrumental band of...many decades. Man or Astroman, Servotron had vocals and more of a gimmick and Canadas legendary east coast bands seemed to be from Hamilton, Halifax or Montreal...i lived on the border and grew up on CIUT, Brett Bambry and Brave New Waves---one of the coolest voices on radio and back when CFNY took a chance here and there before succumbing to the consultants. We were raised on Forgotten Rebels, Demics, 90s garage legends King Khan and BBQ, Deadly Snakes, Career Suicide (who wore a Sabres sweater when playing Buffalo) and F****d Up put my shop on a rare 7" "Spiral Scratch" and let the masses know when a fire tore through the shop... which was beyond helpful when insurance turned their back on us. They did cross so many lines...Harlem By The Sea and Misty,
The 1st one with the 2 pickups looks like it has Filtertrons. That's a tell for a Gretch. The second guitar with 3 pickups has P-90's. I'm not sure of the make. I know I've seen him with Gretches before, so I wanna say they both are. Maybe someone can confirm or correct me.
I just used the stock mic on my Kodak Zi8. That camera served me well over the years, but I retired it as the CMOS sensor blew. It was certainly perfect for its day. No tripod, just a sore shoulder from holding it up for 90min.
thanks! i never knew what the "men" looked like - all i have is some cds a guitar playing friend gave me.. no liner notes... i thought maybe they were like " the residents '' - no pictures ever..
This is such a treasure to come across now. Thank you for capturing this show. RIP Dallas.

all good rock bands are from Britain or former British colonies for some reason
@@funkninja9 I'll point to Sweden.
@@justinhughes4077 I love the Finnish band Laika and the Cosmonauts.

@@DaveAnchovies The Sadies anyone?
I feel like I can conquer the world when this music is playing.
"This is really fun" - understatement of the century.
that's Canadian heckling.
Thanks so much for posting this. Saw them at the Rickshaw with the Sadies--such a good show.
Thank you so much for recording this. I've kind of lost touch with what SMOASP were up to since Reid passed away :( Dallas really pays him tribute here.
I traveled from philadelphia for this show and had the time of my life, amazing.
Thanks for posting this! Awesome. Look forward to seeing them at the Palace.

This is now one of my favorite videos on youtube. A treasure.
Wow! Saw them in 92ish at Lounge Ax in Chicago. ❤️
God, thanks for this! I love this Band! Please write more songs!!!
Thank you for recording and sharing! I never had the pleasure of seeing them live. This is incredible!! 🎶🎸💛

i forgot to hit the HOLD button on my minidisc recorder and didn't get the whole show. thanks for uploading this show. it was totally amazing!!
Back for my yearly comment: thanks again for recording this.
It says "1 year ago" on my comment above. Back again. Still wish I was at this show.
RIP Dallas
They are more then kids in the hall but that's how I learned about them. Love them
Wow! I can feel their passion! Love this! Thanks!

THANNNK YOUUUU! I wanted to be at the show so badly!
thanks for uploading. what an awesome night!
(I think people have forgotten how to dance) :) ...so you're right, the local scene needs this :D Great show and the shot of life Toronto needs!

Miss ya Dallas
Thank you, thank you, thank you xo
WOW! Thx!
a great show!
So that is Reid Diamond's bass? Very cool.
It's a Gibson Thunderbird.
yes that is a firebird but it's Dallas Good's. He plays in another band (the Sadies) with his brother Travis.
That is in fact Reid's bass Dallas is playing.
I taped this show as well. unfortunately, I didn't get to stay the whole time. I'll be uploading them soon though.
Thanks for recording it by the way.
I remember going to the Birthdays every year.. and Reid does Neil :)
Hans, I think that's a Gretsch White Falcon he's playing.
their new box set sez it all.. "Oh, I guess we were a fucking surf band after all". Saw them last night here in San Diego in a small bar, they had great stage presence and sounded awesome.
REAL DEAL!
i was so hoping that maybe Bruce McCulloch woulda stepped out on stage and they bust in The Daves I Know. that would've been way beyond HOLY SHIT!!
i was at this show and Bruce was there (walked by me on stage right)
This band is so much fun... handing out shakers and rattlers to the crowd and dance wax---cheeky chaps
37 with a bad back. it was really really hard to stand up there at the front that long.
I hear you.
This is decent, great sound and nicely captured. The repetitive side-side camera movement makes me a little seasick.
cool show .... that collage of many short snippets from well known songs nearing the end was just crazy - how could they keep all that in order?
Nice cover of Magic Words at 57:39
Fucking rad man...
I also think I tried to contact them to see if they wanted to play for a party. I'm still up for it so if anyone knows them tell them to contact me.
super!!!!!
Love this! What is the song at the 34-35:00 ish mark? Anf 1:06:00??
Off Our Back Conrad Black at 35 and Shadowy Countdown at !:06.
fuck i want to see them soo bad great stuff thanks a lot for filming!
Awesomeeeeee... arghghghgh1!!!
Does anyone know what song it is that starts @10:47 ? Mostly familiar with "Show Stoppers" and "Dim the Lights" as far as their full albums go.
7 years later and i'm still not sure.
Note to self: "Zombie Compromise" @ 37:20 ruclips.net/video/nE9iFd5LHBM/видео.htmlm20s
Anybody know the name of the last song? They sound great live!
Three Piece Suit
There was a local band in my home town that did shadowy men covers, among some awesome originals.. they were called three piece suit, I guess I know where the name came from. Voth great bands..
... if any of them ever see this... bring back three piece suit!
Anyone know what kind of bass Dallas played as here?
It's a Gibson Thunderbird. It's what Reid Diamond played. A post above states "That is in fact Reid's bass Dallas is playing."
OK, at 26:00 in this show Don Pyle indicates that, yes, it's actually Reid's bass that Dallas is playing.
People were sitting?
maybe because some of us are old and cant stand up for many hours like some of you youngin's. no wonder there was no place to sit once we got there at 9:30
Shame they didn't play Mecca.
Lopez? .....Lopez?.....hey Lopez...
I'm 58. You?

Quintessential hipster band...actually pretty good..⚘
Kidz in the Hall.., saving grace 🎸🤘☠🎸.., Now..???
not a hipster band around here, though KITH was a hipster show made cooler by the into music...
Reminds me of Primus
+Steven wickens ha! what?
+Steven wickens you've obviously never listened to surf rock
yech....no! how? where? Primus is thee worst. stop harshing my mellow.
what mic did you use? did you have a tripod?
