      It's not exactly like that. When he accept to returns to the role of Bond he make a deal with the producers. The deal was that they will give the same exact amount as he get for himself to this charity. So the producers paid twice.

      In fact in the end he gave his salary of 1.2 M but he had negotiated a 12.5% of the US net profit on that particular movie. That profit earned him a total of 6. 7 millions US including his salary. It was a lot of money and the biggest percentage of profit that a Bond actor ever got. You can find all those informations on M16 community.

    Connery doesn’t have the same affliction for Bond as say Roger Moore, but Connery moulded Bond into what it became though, but when he signed to make the first five films in the early 60s, it was on low money as nobody was sure how well it would do, but when the first couple of films made £140 million between them he wasn’t given a pay rise that he understandably wanted, he did get a percentage of the profits of the films later on but never a pay rise and when his contract ended after You Only Live Twice he wasn’t necessarily against continuing as James Bond but he was in the position to call the shots and Saltzman and Broccoli wouldn’t agree to his salary demands so he left, but he’d made five Bond films in just under six years and wanted to do other types of films, he was limited to what he could do because of the fact that back in those days they made a Bond film every year so he didn’t have too much time to do another film and have a bit of time to himself as he would be straight onto the next Bond, but he felt by You Only Live Twice that Bond himself was becoming secondary to the gadgets and the spectacle and had no qualms about giving it up and when George Lazenby resigned as Bond after the next film, it took the head of the studio to persuade Connery to return one more time with a £1.2 million salary which he donated to his children s charity but he’d aged considerably in the four years since You Only Live Twice and was overweight albeit he did lose some during the filming but you can tell in this interview that he was ready to leave Bond behind, the films were moving towards a more tongue in cheek lighter approach which didn’t suit Connery s interpretation of Bond from the 60s Cold War themed films. Bringing Connery back was a steady the ship appointment to get the fans back after On Her Majesty s Secret Service, relatively speaking didn’t do well compared to Connery s films.

    Those are the opening bars to the theme from "Diamond are Forever," which was Connery's final outing in 1971, when this interview was conducted. It was the second of 3 title songs to be sung by Shirley Bassey (that were actually used in finished films) and one of my personal faves. Not talked about quite as much as Shirley singing "Goldfinger," but it's a fabulous theme and her sultry voice gives it the perfect Bond feel. Definitely check it out.

    When Connery filmed Dr. No he was 32 and From Russia With Love was made in 63; filming on Goldfinger was in 64 and Thunderball in 65. By the time that he made You Only Live Twice, Connery looked and photographed heavier, perhaps 10 or 15 pounds; the same with Diamonds. He returned to "fighting weight" for Never Say Never Again in 83. I don't understand his adamant refusal to publicize his involvement in the Bond films and his antagonism for the producers. He made many good non Bond movies.

    @Rampage Clover you need to understand that the only reason Pierce Brosnan or Roger Moore would be humble by taking the Bond role is because Sean Connery set the standard. Its much like the captain on Star Trek...and I am no trekkie by any stretch. Shatner set the standard than maybe more polished actors came in and put their own spin on the captain. Others did the same with Bond but the archetype that Connery set is still by in large followed. Pierce and Roger are surface bonds to me, they have the look, the charm but never really brought a bad ass feel for me. The type of man who would kill without a second thought or enforce their will to get the job done. Timothy Dalton brought the edge back to Bond and because of the strife with United Artists never really got the recognition he deserved. He was blamed for the fact he was given two of the toughest scripts in bonds history to deliver. Producers and people on the set said on set he had everything; the look, the charm, the hard edge, the ability to handle the physical side. To me Connery will always be the best Bond because without him the movies wouldn't have been as successful. Daniel Craig in my mind and people can hate if they want, is the second best Bond. He has the same commanding presence as Connery, the charm of a Roger Moore and he now brings Bond to us with a more modern delivery in terms of acting. You really feel everything that Craig goes through as Bond, plus he does most of his own bloody stunts a true Legend as Bond already and one was made during a writers strike.

    • @DarthRushy
      @DarthRushy 9 лет назад +3

      Michael Melro I get what you mean in all cases, except one... Daniel Craig has the charm of Roger Moore? I'm sorry, what?
      I saw Skyfall when it came out and Daniel Craig in that movie was the most depressingly dead-inside person I've ever seen act. I was actually shocked when I later watched Connery and Moneypenny for the first time because of how infinitely superior their chemistry is when compared with Craig and... well, anyone really.
      Don't get me wrong, he's not bad as an actor, I liked his scenes with M and his relationship with his old home and parents, but inner torment and sarcasm are only two sides of a much more interesting character.

    You mean Brosnan & Moore always had stunt doubles. Have you even watched the Skyfall Blogs or DVD extras for his first 2? Craig has gotten bloodied twice shooting Bond movies. They just had to quit filming Skyfall for a short time because of Craig injury. Craig himself (a former Rugby player) climbed that ladder when he was chasing that black guy at the beginning of Casino Royale. Craig himself (for a short time at least) was on that train going 70 Kph where he was shot in Skyfall

    No I read the entire post but the comment about the "thicker eyebrows" just stood out as so bizarre it just begged for a comment, I apologize for taking you to task on your thoughts and feelings about eyebrows and their proper thickness. Listen I feel ya, I have a thing for Nancy Grace's evil left eyebrow, which I used to date and I hear is thickening out quite nicely these days. Obviously I hope my reply today hasn't been too.........low brow for you.

    1:41 Does anyone know if all the Bond actors had actually read any of the Fleming novels, if not all of them?

      Dalton was a huge fan of the novels and Craig read them when he was cast. Moore admitted he didn’t care for them. Don’t know about the other 2 (aside from Sean)

      @@masterron1 Oh yes, reckon that's why Dalton was probably the closest to portraying Fleming's Bond. Moore did once admit in an interview he did at least read a couple of the novels. Lazenby read OHMSS when he did the film and apparently had the book on set with him when they shot the ending when he cries over Tracy's death. Don't know if he read the rest though. Brosnan's the one I'm not too sure about as I've rarely heard him talk about Fleming and the novels. Seems to talk more about the films.

    OHMSS was NOT unsuccessful. It did make a profit.

      @@ΜακηςΛ-ε5ρ So? Doesn't mean it wasn't profitable. Prisoner of Azkaban is the least successful Harry Potter film but it still made a fuck ton of cash.

      @@ΜακηςΛ-ε5ρ No it isn't. As a matter of fact, it's one of the most profitable Bond films ever but it was not as successful as it's predecessors.

      @@ricardocantoral7672 This is what I meant smallest success. The film was successful and profitable, but not like previous ones, and I think the next ones.
