I dont understand guys, why so many bad comments and dislikes? This music is great, just give it a chance!!!
What? Dislike that? Don't understand! Taste differs, but true beauty and truth not being recognised is mental.
+Andrea Martins
Some people can't defer to (that kind of) beauty. Why you ask? Because people are humans, too
+KriechenderHouden She is an extraordinary artist. That is why I am asking.
wow Im really impressed shes very good
Wow!!!

Endlich mal wieder ein Künstler/eine Künstlerin, wo die Musik (inkl. Text) im Vordergrund steht. Und nicht irgendeine Show ablenken soll. SUPER!
I wish she had a larger following in the US. She is a very gifted performer.
I love Sophie, her music is soo deep, soo unique, authentic... Discovered her 8 years ago and each time a hear her voice is like the first.
Still gives me goosebumps. Beautifully done
Beautifully different singing. Almost haunting! A little abstract may be, which is why this does not appeal to many casual listeners. But art presents itself in different ways, different styles, and is a representation of culture and individuality. One must open one's heart, and try and appreciate beauty as much as possible !
"If history would have been different, then this whole conference might as well have been in Swiss-German, and you know you would have had Swiss-German in school and you would say to your children, 'If you want to be someone in life, you have to definitely learn Swiss-German,' and so this is what this conference would sound like if...[significant pause/look... followd by beautiful song]"...
1 in 7 is giving a thumb down? Why is this? Just for the sake of clicking something? Do not get it. This is special and nice, no?
Yes
Her playing/lyrical style is reminiscent of Emilíana Torrini, and her voice is uniquely hers. One of my favourite TED music bits I've seen.
So Very Beautiful!
62 thumbdowns???
I don't understand!!
You are wonderful Artists!
if i choose to speak swiss german i would but i didn't because i don't know german at all.. that's the reasoning behind my thoughts. on the other hand i love listening to Sophi, great artist with exceptional talent.
Magnifique Sophie Hunger... Une artiste aussi complète que talentueuse.
Superbe présence sur scène..la marque des grand(e)s .... et pour finir, on est forcément sous le charme
She is a passionate musician. Look at her face. There is so much joy.
i'm not really sure where all the "dislikes" come from but i think they done an amazing job and the music was really touching/moving
big up from russia with love
This is SO damn nice and cool.
ted is just too fucking mainstream for this great kind of art. too mainstream in a veryvery bad way. sophie hunger is the best and you need to listen it and try to understand what she's about.
... is a great voice into a great place, where the sound of words and its meannig are the most important things. Congratulations Sophie
Lyrics of the Swiss-German song(In english)Part 1:
Oh, just yesterday you suddenly saw nothing anymore
And since then nobody sees you
Oh, yesterday the mirror broke
And since then, your face breaks apart
I am just an idea of yours
how you want it
and you are just an idea of mine
how i need it
And if that was if that was, we would always be the same
maybe i'm gonna watch TED more often, because they brought sophie.
How could ANYONE dislike THIS?! O.o
Sophie Hunger. Underbart. Wunderbar. Wonderful. Merveilleux. Maravilloso. Meravilgliosio.❤️
@florencelovesme: You're so right! I'm glad there are different regions and cultures on planet earth! Everything the same, wouldn't it be boring? Where shall we go for holydays? And yes, Sophie is Swiss!
Lindo...Um verdadeiro espetaculo...Parabens.
@mangelsdorff So a fantasy of a beautiful-sounding Swiss-German speaking world population introduced by the phrase "If history would have been different..." is in reference what?
She starts at 11:28. Watch it again.
She concludes by saying, "and so, this is what this conference would sound like if..." She does not complete that thought but pauses and gestures significantly. The audience seems momentarily shocked. Then after a moment, a few laugh, uncomfortably.
This is what this conference would sound like......... If Germany had won the war. I am an Irish man living in the German speaking part of switzerland.
@@olivermcinerny6566 No. She talks about swiss german, not german. These languages are completely different. This is the special humor of Sophie, she likes to introduce unexpected meanings.
@Elechte Lyrics of the Swiss-German song(In english)Part 2:
My doctor says, remove the cloak
and I say, but below it, I am nothing, nothing
My doctor says, remove the cloak
and I say, but below it, I have nothing, nothing(in english)
I am just an idea of yours
how you want it
and you are just an idea of mine
how i need it
And if that was if that was, we would always be alone
@colourfulwithaU I agree...there's nothing wrong with the 'new' talks... i actually enjoy them just as much as the 'old' ones...whatever that means
Adorei o espectáculo que deu hoje em Coimbra. Parabéns pelo que é. E obrigada pelo que nos ofereceu.
very expressive music!
preciosa su música ...su voz...su carisma....
transmite lo que quiere transmitir ...emociona y ...te transporta hacia el lugar que ella quiere llevarte....
qué bella música!!
i am a big fan from sophie hunger and this, for me since now, this is the best,intense concert she was given
if you get the chance to see her live do. especially in small clubs she really makes it feel very intimate. and probably more playfull without loosing the intensity.
@Donnervogelistaken & @FFSray
You are both absolutely awesome! Many thanks for the quick responses!
I like it because it's different from anything I have heard before.
@florencelovme
You are terribly wrong. What unique culture you mean? The ones that make us feel superior to others? Or the ones that make no sense? The ones that do us apart?
Thanks no. I'd rather see humanity united under one common understanding, than having all these petty "unique cultures".
@mRmo1412 Well no, South Americans aren't Americans, they're from South America, not the United States. I'm from Canada, I don't consider myself an American... although I am North American. Maybe in some other languages both North and South America are classified as "The Americas" but "American" specifically refers to the USA.
No, no shame in being called a European, but why loosen the country distinction? I understand that some countries take pride in their national identities.
@florencelovme eurpaens are europeans are just like amricans are americans.
theres nothing wrong with calling oneself europeans. it does not mean, by any means, that we should "forget our identity", its just that europeans have a widely spread roots and a lot of cultures.
we are europeans, theres nothing bad about it.
dont being able or willing to call oneself europeans means nothing but encouraging that the people from europe dont mean the same, in the end, that menas encouraging hate.
@rowanrockhopper2
I did not say she is having sex during a cricket match. My reference is to TED having its 'Entertainment' with videos like this. I assume, due to the nature of TED talks, that I get the entertainment from interesting people and their clever ideas. ‘Entertainment’ as a whole should not be indulged or you can justify cricket and porn as entertainment possibilities for TED.
I blame bob dylan/ sheryl crow wannabe folk musicians for the death of local coffeehouses and the move towards McCafe, starbucks and drive through espresso. So basically the fall of community in western culture can be explained as "Everybody was talking and having a good time then some hippy pulled out a guitar and most people found someplace else to be."
At first, I thought she was crap. Then I decided to look at the whole thing. I realised that she is deliberately manipulating sound to create a certain effect... and while I don't like the style of music, I have to say that she knows what she is doing.
@yared94 It's not ok, "american" is vague too, or when you talk about an american person you think of a mexican, a chilean, a canadian, a peruvian, an argentinian, and so on? United States is not the only country in the continent, you know...
@NextToNothing123 Americans are north americans, yes.
and south americans aren´t americans ?
america is america, and europe is europe,
there is no shame in calling oneself american, european or whatever,
thats what i wanted to stay
@florencelovme All cultures evolve. We don't have gladiators, pharoahs, or Chinese emporers anymore, because culture has changed since then. And who is to say that a global culture wouldn't be better than any other individual culture?
i love this performance
I love seeing music performances on TED and reading people's comments who don't understand that TED is Technology, Entertainment, Design.
@AVJRoutledge those are some pretty harsh words. TED is all about spreading ideas, from both men and women and this does just that too.
Meh. It's okay to call someone American, but European is too vague. She could be anything from Bulgarian, to Swedish, to Irish.
nothing wrong with the performance - but I disliked the vid for it's seemingly unrevolutionary idea. Too out of scope.
Étonnante artiste , unique , on est sous le charme de sa voix son émotion quand elle est sur scène .
unique ..very unique....n its great
@86kinky86
What's wrong with the 'new' TED Talks? TED stands for Technology ENTERTAINMENT Design. Music fits into the 'entertainment' category, I believe.
Einfach nur brilliant!!! Soo Gänsehaut Feeling all Thumbs Up!!!!!!☀️🍀 Weiss jemand wie das erste Lied heißt? Find das auch keinem Album von ihr?
Edit: habs rausgefunden. Heißt Hotel berlfort😁
i speak English but i don't get the lyrics at all~ probably~ i am too shallow to understand it?!
@mRmo1412 Technically Americans are North Americans if we're going by continent classification.
Wow, why so many negative comments?
Americans and appreciating culture. Just lol. Way to go...
What a lovely voice...
Whenever there is music, art, or dance, or the like on TED people really make a fuss, but it's entertainment all the same. I guess it is just more subjective, thus harder for some to appreciate.
She's a good enough singer, but I don't know why she's on TEDtalks. Did someone not show up?
screw it, I'm unsubscribing. Thumb me up to show disappointment in the "new" TED Talks.
I love TED, until i saw this crap, do the world a favor and remove this please..
Etonnant que le public ne se soit levé. Tellement émotionnel. De grands artistes.
when will they stop with this singing bullshit?
this ain't no fucking MTV!
Oh and by the way her performance is great, I didn't hear about her before now.
I rater lesson to this in a bar than to lesson to Jesting beaver!!!
wunderschön.
weiss jemand wie der posaunenspieler und der hintergrundsänger heissen?
Michael Flury (Posaune), Christan Prader (Flöte, Klavier, Gitarre)
@florencelovme she's a human being from planet earth...whatever
great voice and songs
Didn't l like the first couple, but the last ones were good.
Kann mir wer sagen, wie mann diese art nen wie er die Posaune Spielt.. was nimmt er da in die Hand?
5Muco5
gatodepalacio
Das ist ein Dämpfer, mein Freund. Simles Teil aus Alu mit Filzrand.
danke :D
ouch...that was painful. skip.
@Rabbitlusi that's why google and lyrics exist...
TED is all about awesome talks and shitty music
Her voice reminds me Leslie Feist
@gspahr
I know that. But it is a well established fact that when you say "American", you're referring to a citizen of the United States of America. Although I, like you apparently, don't like it, there is simply no other demonym that can compete to the word "American".
American is used both as a name for the whole continent, and also in the name "the United States of America". If there was a country called the United States of Europe, a person from that country would be called European.
@beanzaronii
It is harsh words for a video that i personally would not want on TED. It's up for TED to listen to its audience (on both sides) and make a decision as to where it wants to go. My own view on this is that its a waste of time and doesnt follow my personal taste for what makes TED special and worth watching.
If I wanted music (of a non-particularly special nature) I feel I should look elsewhere. I mean what next for 'talent on TED'; some really intense kick-ups of a football?
i think they have people play music during the talks so it's not just one talk after another all day, which would get tiring. it's just to break it up a bit i think. i doubt it's meant to be particularly meaningful. just a little entertainment, relax people... they might as well post it. it's pretty much free... : )
I like it but there is something wrong with the strings. My husband plays Classical guitar and it sound EXACTLY like that when he must change out the strings for that matter it was hard to hear. But that could be her style of which i love but to me the guitar quality was awful but she plays great.
@florencelovme
i'm european. and actually .. come to think of it .. i'm human... currently located on the planet earth. Nationality lost all meaning a long time ago. And this is a good thing .. since nothing good every came from it.
@florencelovme
What's different about being called English, Spanish or German and being called European?
Should we all rather be called Earthlings if we do not want to seperate eachother by geography?
It's pur and powerfool Pure et puissant ...
anyone knows what the song is from 12:00 until 14:40 ? I don't speak swiss-german which makes it really hard to google for the lyric..
Musical tastes really split people.
When will TED bring in any black metal?
@mangelsdorff Oooh. haha. Is that what she's talking about? Thank you for clearing up that confusion for me. I really enjoyed this whole exchange in an absurdly delightful way. And you see, in the end we achieved a merger of minds, by way of your patient conveyence of superior knowledge. Isn't that what TED is all about?
(And maybe it even would be a tiny bit fun to attempt to calculate with a 4,321 based numerical system!)
I make songs too - quiet ones. Check out my page.
I want TED to show Brandi Carlile &or Newton Faulkner.
They are amazing singers & songwriters.
I quite like this, but I’d prefer these artists.
Ok TED..
go a head and bring on Meshuggah, that is very educational and it would be great to teach people how fucked up math can get in a simple way.
@softball10
Hello. Wow thanks for the info. I do appreciate that becuase i truly did not know. have a great week. if you know of any other kool guitarist on here please let me know
@florencelovme Sophie Hunger grew up in Bern (Switzerland), London (United Kingdom), Bonn (Germany) and Zurich.
This I got from Wikipedia. I do agree in a way, but when it comes to her, it gets a bit complicated.
+Fallon Wolf »besten Dank! Sehr hilfreich.
a genius
O_O ew...really??
Why the dislike? If you're too feeble-minded to appreciate different kinds of mediums and explore everything TED has to offer, your missing out!
@denbowan
It is entertainment that is usually of an intelectual nature. Porn is entertainment and so is a game of cricket, but I dont expect to see it here.
what the fuck is this
@NAK5891 not enough double bass and raging guitar solo's!!! jks jks, yes it's good, really well written/
this girl is a quack
@zeena35 Technology, Entertainment, and Design. Because it is supposed to be entertaining.
@jasonlajoie lol YES I did use google spell cant trust google any more or my selfe .
Can somebody please tell me the name of the song at 12:00? ♥
Joscelyn "Spiegelbild"
thank you kind man!
