if i choose to speak swiss german i would but i didn't because i don't know german at all.. that's the reasoning behind my thoughts. on the other hand i love listening to Sophi, great artist with exceptional talent.
Beautifully different singing. Almost haunting! A little abstract may be, which is why this does not appeal to many casual listeners. But art presents itself in different ways, different styles, and is a representation of culture and individuality. One must open one's heart, and try and appreciate beauty as much as possible !
Magnifique Sophie Hunger...
"If history would have been different, then this whole conference might as well have been in Swiss-German, and you know you would have had Swiss-German in school and you would say to your children, 'If you want to be someone in life, you have to definitely learn Swiss-German,' and so this is what this conference would sound like if...[significant pause/look... followd by beautiful song]"...
Lyrics of the Swiss-German song(In english)Part 1: Oh, just yesterday you suddenly saw nothing anymore And since then nobody sees you Oh, yesterday the mirror broke And since then, your face breaks apart I am just an idea of yours how you want it and you are just an idea of mine how i need it And if that was if that was, we would always be the same
if you get the chance to see her live do. especially in small clubs she really makes it feel very intimate. and probably more playfull without loosing the intensity.
i'm not really sure where all the "dislikes" come from but i think they done an amazing job and the music was really touching/moving big up from russia with love
What a lovely voice... Whenever there is music, art, or dance, or the like on TED people really make a fuss, but it's entertainment all the same. I guess it is just more subjective, thus harder for some to appreciate.
Einfach nur brilliant!!! Soo Gänsehaut Feeling all Thumbs Up!!!!!!☀️🍀 Weiss jemand wie das erste Lied heißt? Find das auch keinem Album von ihr? Edit: habs rausgefunden. Heißt Hotel berlfort😁
@Elechte Lyrics of the Swiss-German song(In english)Part 2: My doctor says, remove the cloak and I say, but below it, I am nothing, nothing My doctor says, remove the cloak and I say, but below it, I have nothing, nothing(in english) I am just an idea of yours how you want it and you are just an idea of mine how i need it And if that was if that was, we would always be alone
ted is just too fucking mainstream for this great kind of art. too mainstream in a veryvery bad way. sophie hunger is the best and you need to listen it and try to understand what she's about.
@florencelovesme: You're so right! I'm glad there are different regions and cultures on planet earth! Everything the same, wouldn't it be boring? Where shall we go for holydays? And yes, Sophie is Swiss!
@86kinky86 What's wrong with the 'new' TED Talks? TED stands for Technology ENTERTAINMENT Design. Music fits into the 'entertainment' category, I believe.
@mangelsdorff So a fantasy of a beautiful-sounding Swiss-German speaking world population introduced by the phrase "If history would have been different..." is in reference what? She starts at 11:28. Watch it again. She concludes by saying, "and so, this is what this conference would sound like if..." She does not complete that thought but pauses and gestures significantly. The audience seems momentarily shocked. Then after a moment, a few laugh, uncomfortably.
This is what this conference would sound like......... If Germany had won the war. I am an Irish man living in the German speaking part of switzerland.
@@olivermcinerny6566 No. She talks about swiss german, not german. These languages are completely different. This is the special humor of Sophie, she likes to introduce unexpected meanings.
@florencelovme Sophie Hunger grew up in Bern (Switzerland), London (United Kingdom), Bonn (Germany) and Zurich. This I got from Wikipedia. I do agree in a way, but when it comes to her, it gets a bit complicated.
i think they have people play music during the talks so it's not just one talk after another all day, which would get tiring. it's just to break it up a bit i think. i doubt it's meant to be particularly meaningful. just a little entertainment, relax people... they might as well post it. it's pretty much free... : )
@softball10 Hello. Wow thanks for the info. I do appreciate that becuase i truly did not know. have a great week. if you know of any other kool guitarist on here please let me know
@rowanrockhopper2 I did not say she is having sex during a cricket match. My reference is to TED having its 'Entertainment' with videos like this. I assume, due to the nature of TED talks, that I get the entertainment from interesting people and their clever ideas. ‘Entertainment’ as a whole should not be indulged or you can justify cricket and porn as entertainment possibilities for TED.
@florencelovme All cultures evolve. We don't have gladiators, pharoahs, or Chinese emporers anymore, because culture has changed since then. And who is to say that a global culture wouldn't be better than any other individual culture?
@mangelsdorff Oooh. haha. Is that what she's talking about? Thank you for clearing up that confusion for me. I really enjoyed this whole exchange in an absurdly delightful way. And you see, in the end we achieved a merger of minds, by way of your patient conveyence of superior knowledge. Isn't that what TED is all about? (And maybe it even would be a tiny bit fun to attempt to calculate with a 4,321 based numerical system!) I make songs too - quiet ones. Check out my page.
@yared94 It's not ok, "american" is vague too, or when you talk about an american person you think of a mexican, a chilean, a canadian, a peruvian, an argentinian, and so on? United States is not the only country in the continent, you know...
@florencelovme What's different about being called English, Spanish or German and being called European? Should we all rather be called Earthlings if we do not want to seperate eachother by geography?
I like it but there is something wrong with the strings. My husband plays Classical guitar and it sound EXACTLY like that when he must change out the strings for that matter it was hard to hear. But that could be her style of which i love but to me the guitar quality was awful but she plays great.
@mRmo1412 Well no, South Americans aren't Americans, they're from South America, not the United States. I'm from Canada, I don't consider myself an American... although I am North American. Maybe in some other languages both North and South America are classified as "The Americas" but "American" specifically refers to the USA. No, no shame in being called a European, but why loosen the country distinction? I understand that some countries take pride in their national identities.
@florencelovme i'm european. and actually .. come to think of it .. i'm human... currently located on the planet earth. Nationality lost all meaning a long time ago. And this is a good thing .. since nothing good every came from it.
@florencelovme eurpaens are europeans are just like amricans are americans. theres nothing wrong with calling oneself europeans. it does not mean, by any means, that we should "forget our identity", its just that europeans have a widely spread roots and a lot of cultures. we are europeans, theres nothing bad about it. dont being able or willing to call oneself europeans means nothing but encouraging that the people from europe dont mean the same, in the end, that menas encouraging hate.
I dont understand guys, why so many bad comments and dislikes? This music is great, just give it a chance!!!
SUPER!
I wish she had a larger following in the US. She is a very gifted performer.
I love Sophie, her music is soo deep, soo unique, authentic... Discovered her 8 years ago and each time a hear her voice is like the first.
Still gives me goosebumps. Beautifully done
if i choose to speak swiss german i would but i didn't because i don't know german at all.. that's the reasoning behind my thoughts. on the other hand i love listening to Sophi, great artist with exceptional talent.
I am german and I don't understand one word of swiss german. But still I love the sound of Sophies songs, even in swiss german.
Beautifully different singing. Almost haunting! A little abstract may be, which is why this does not appeal to many casual listeners. But art presents itself in different ways, different styles, and is a representation of culture and individuality. One must open one's heart, and try and appreciate beauty as much as possible !
She is a passionate musician. Look at her face. There is so much joy.
Her playing/lyrical style is reminiscent of Emilíana Torrini, and her voice is uniquely hers. One of my favourite TED music bits I've seen.
Magnifique Sophie Hunger... Une artiste aussi complète que talentueuse.

... is a great voice into a great place, where the sound of words and its meannig are the most important things. Congratulations Sophie

if you get the chance to see her live do. especially in small clubs she really makes it feel very intimate. and probably more playfull without loosing the intensity.
i'm not really sure where all the "dislikes" come from but i think they done an amazing job and the music was really touching/moving
big up from russia with love
I love seeing music performances on TED and reading people's comments who don't understand that TED is Technology, Entertainment, Design.
Why the dislike? If you're too feeble-minded to appreciate different kinds of mediums and explore everything TED has to offer, your missing out!
So Very Beautiful!
62 thumbdowns???
I don't understand!!
You are wonderful Artists!
maybe i'm gonna watch TED more often, because they brought sophie.
How could ANYONE dislike THIS?! O.o
@colourfulwithaU I agree...there's nothing wrong with the 'new' talks... i actually enjoy them just as much as the 'old' ones...whatever that means
Lindo...Um verdadeiro espetaculo...Parabens.
great voice and songs
@Donnervogelistaken & @FFSray
You are both absolutely awesome! Many thanks for the quick responses!
i love this performance
very expressive music!
I like it because it's different from anything I have heard before.
1 in 7 is giving a thumb down? Why is this? Just for the sake of clicking something? Do not get it. This is special and nice, no?
Yes
What a lovely voice...
Whenever there is music, art, or dance, or the like on TED people really make a fuss, but it's entertainment all the same. I guess it is just more subjective, thus harder for some to appreciate.
unique ..very unique....n its great
Just got myself.... Thank you Sophie!!

+Fallon Wolf »besten Dank! Sehr hilfreich.
Wow!!!
Oh and by the way her performance is great, I didn't hear about her before now.
@dakgootje The song is called Spiegelbild (translation: mirror image / reflection)
wow Im really impressed shes very good
anyone knows what the song is from 12:00 until 14:40 ? I don't speak swiss-german which makes it really hard to google for the lyric..
Can somebody please tell me the name of the song at 12:00? ♥
Joscelyn "Spiegelbild"
thank you kind man!
@TherianthropeAndrewH I'm on City Lights now, wow... she has a new fan.

It's pur and powerfool Pure et puissant ...
What? Dislike that? Don't understand! Taste differs, but true beauty and truth not being recognised is mental.
+Andrea Martins
Some people can't defer to (that kind of) beauty. Why you ask? Because people are humans, too
+KriechenderHouden She is an extraordinary artist. That is why I am asking.
Michael Flury (Posaune), Christan Prader (Flöte, Klavier, Gitarre)
Is this the Ted to come ?
what tuning is she using?
She's a good enough singer, but I don't know why she's on TEDtalks. Did someone not show up?
@86kinky86
What's wrong with the 'new' TED Talks? TED stands for Technology ENTERTAINMENT Design. Music fits into the 'entertainment' category, I believe.

Hey I'm back again! 12 years later! Hi!
Wow, why so many negative comments?
Americans and appreciating culture. Just lol. Way to go...
Why is this on TED??
Her voice reminds me Leslie Feist
@florencelovme Sophie Hunger grew up in Bern (Switzerland), London (United Kingdom), Bonn (Germany) and Zurich.
This I got from Wikipedia. I do agree in a way, but when it comes to her, it gets a bit complicated.
I want TED to show Brandi Carlile &or Newton Faulkner.
They are amazing singers & songwriters.
I quite like this, but I’d prefer these artists.
@solitary200 You completely missed the speech!
a genius
@NAK5891 to be honest she kind of sounds like katy perry... i love it
i think they have people play music during the talks so it's not just one talk after another all day, which would get tiring. it's just to break it up a bit i think. i doubt it's meant to be particularly meaningful. just a little entertainment, relax people... they might as well post it. it's pretty much free... : )
@AVJRoutledge those are some pretty harsh words. TED is all about spreading ideas, from both men and women and this does just that too.
seems like a lot of people dont know What TED stands for
@lucidzirkus
YES!
People don't actually listen to the lyrics.
she reminds me of pheobe of friends :)
i speak English but i don't get the lyrics at all~ probably~ i am too shallow to understand it?!
@herrbasan
best comment ever. you're great! :)

Hello. Wow thanks for the info. I do appreciate that becuase i truly did not know. have a great week. if you know of any other kool guitarist on here please let me know

@86kinky86 what's wrong with it?...
Not quite up to a Starbucks tour. How'd she get there?
