    Beautifully different singing. Almost haunting! A little abstract may be, which is why this does not appeal to many casual listeners. But art presents itself in different ways, different styles, and is a representation of culture and individuality. One must open one's heart, and try and appreciate beauty as much as possible !

    "If history would have been different, then this whole conference might as well have been in Swiss-German, and you know you would have had Swiss-German in school and you would say to your children, 'If you want to be someone in life, you have to definitely learn Swiss-German,' and so this is what this conference would sound like if...[significant pause/look... followd by beautiful song]"...

    Oh, just yesterday you suddenly saw nothing anymore
    And since then nobody sees you
    Oh, yesterday the mirror broke
    And since then, your face breaks apart

    @mangelsdorff So a fantasy of a beautiful-sounding Swiss-German speaking world population introduced by the phrase "If history would have been different..." is in reference what?
    She starts at 11:28. Watch it again.
    She concludes by saying, "and so, this is what this conference would sound like if..." She does not complete that thought but pauses and gestures significantly. The audience seems momentarily shocked. Then after a moment, a few laugh, uncomfortably.

    You are terribly wrong. What unique culture you mean? The ones that make us feel superior to others? Or the ones that make no sense? The ones that do us apart?
    Thanks no. I'd rather see humanity united under one common understanding, than having all these petty "unique cultures".

  • @NextToNothing123
    @NextToNothing123 14 лет назад

    @mRmo1412 Well no, South Americans aren't Americans, they're from South America, not the United States. I'm from Canada, I don't consider myself an American... although I am North American. Maybe in some other languages both North and South America are classified as "The Americas" but "American" specifically refers to the USA.
    No, no shame in being called a European, but why loosen the country distinction? I understand that some countries take pride in their national identities.

  • @mRmo1412
    @mRmo1412 14 лет назад

    @florencelovme eurpaens are europeans are just like amricans are americans.
    theres nothing wrong with calling oneself europeans. it does not mean, by any means, that we should "forget our identity", its just that europeans have a widely spread roots and a lot of cultures.
    we are europeans, theres nothing bad about it.
    dont being able or willing to call oneself europeans means nothing but encouraging that the people from europe dont mean the same, in the end, that menas encouraging hate.

    I did not say she is having sex during a cricket match. My reference is to TED having its 'Entertainment' with videos like this. I assume, due to the nature of TED talks, that I get the entertainment from interesting people and their clever ideas. ‘Entertainment’ as a whole should not be indulged or you can justify cricket and porn as entertainment possibilities for TED.

    I blame bob dylan/ sheryl crow wannabe folk musicians for the death of local coffeehouses and the move towards McCafe, starbucks and drive through espresso. So basically the fall of community in western culture can be explained as "Everybody was talking and having a good time then some hippy pulled out a guitar and most people found someplace else to be."

    I know that. But it is a well established fact that when you say "American", you're referring to a citizen of the United States of America. Although I, like you apparently, don't like it, there is simply no other demonym that can compete to the word "American".
    American is used both as a name for the whole continent, and also in the name "the United States of America". If there was a country called the United States of Europe, a person from that country would be called European.

    It is harsh words for a video that i personally would not want on TED. It's up for TED to listen to its audience (on both sides) and make a decision as to where it wants to go. My own view on this is that its a waste of time and doesnt follow my personal taste for what makes TED special and worth watching.
    If I wanted music (of a non-particularly special nature) I feel I should look elsewhere. I mean what next for 'talent on TED'; some really intense kick-ups of a football?

    i think they have people play music during the talks so it's not just one talk after another all day, which would get tiring. it's just to break it up a bit i think. i doubt it's meant to be particularly meaningful. just a little entertainment, relax people... they might as well post it. it's pretty much free... : )
