    The basic idea of human rights is that each one of us, no matter who we are or where we are born, is entitled to the same basic rights and freedoms. That may sound straightforward enough, but it gets incredibly complicated as soon as anyone tries to put the idea into practice. What exactly are the basic human rights? Who gets to pick them? Who enforces them-and how? Benedetta Berti explores the subtleties of human rights.

    In the era of digitalization, law needs to be adapted to protect and safeguard fundamental rights. One can see that digital rights can be closely linked to freedom of expression and privacy. Therefore in my opinion an individual should have the right to access the internet to avoid digital divide. Additionally, an individual should have control over who stores their personal data etc,; the right to privacy.

      @i'm the king I believe Religion is not the basis or source from which morals stem from, but rather, the other way around. I believe that morals are the basis from which religion stems from. Without morals, religion will be worthless and meaningless, and there will be no longer any need to follow them. But in spite of popular belief, morals exist beyond the scope and boundaries of religion. After all, morals are inherent to human relationships, and without morals, there will be no meaningful relationships between people. Morals form the basis for social interaction and bonding between humans. And the inverse is true. Without human relationships, there will be no need for morals, and any morals that we implement will be futile and meaningless. Therefore, I believe the source of morals is the human desire to form relationships with other humans and bring meaning to those interactions.

      You need to read more and not just take what you hear for granted. Universal human rights are an outdated idea, held up by literal globalists.
      Human rights are imaginary, not part of your genes. Just like you don't have a soul, you don't have any rights, either. There is no magical forcefield of "rights" protecting you and your rights from being violated. Not by nature, not by people. You have to do that yourself, or enter into a collective nation with other people, who can protect you and the things you value to be a "right". And when you do one day sit down and try coming up with original ideas, what you think the rights should be in your nation, you will find they are not universal. You will even find that some rights conflict with each other, and that you have to prioritize between them. Good luck on your journey. Hope I dispelled some myths.

If an individual can't enforce a given right by themselves and needs someone else, or some group, to enforce that right, it is no longer a right and is a privilege bestowed by that enforcement group. The pitch of universal human rights, is a pitch for a universal one world government. A government that can give you everything you want is a government that can take everything from you. If you want to truly give people rights, you must give them individually the power to enforce those rights themselves. This is why the 2nd amendment of the constitution in the United States of America is so debated and such a hot topic. On one hand people need arms to enforce their rights from criminal individuals and criminal governments, but on the other hand everyone having arms now has the power to end some one else right to life. Honestly, I personally think the idea of rights is just that, an idea, and in practice, in the real world, is nothing but legal fiction.

Is letting them die due to a lack of money a right to life violation? Does right to life mean that your life should be saved? Does it just mean no-one can kill you without legal penalties? That previous statement has another trap; by denying healthcare for aforementioned illness, you are killing them indirectly, does not killing without legal penalties mean affordable healthcare, as denying healthcare can cause indirect death? Your last item, what should be freely given? Should we let people be stuck in a poverty pit because they cannot get quality education? Vague human rights produce a loaded question.

    When it comes to "Human Rights" I think of them as something that can be applied to the earliest humans. You have the right to speak and live in freedom, to defend yourself, practice your religious beliefs. You don't have the right to harm or restrict other's freedoms; you relinquish your rights when you trample another's.
    When people like to say housing or healthcare is a human right, that's where I start having issues. Yes, you have the right to build or buy housing for yourself, but you don't have the right to enforce someone to provide goods or services to you. Digital rights get a little murky with my ideal outlines of human rights, but I believe everyone has the right to privacy. However privacy is interpreted is up to the law makers but we should all agree that doxing of any kind should be illegal.

    Culture and education is more important than most people would think. In most Western nations, human rights seem obvious and "objective". But that's only because the concept of human rights mostly developed in the West. So in most other nations, even if they seem "developed" (like in Asia), they have little to no concept of human rights, due to lack of education about human rights, as well as lack of historical cultural context of having human rights.

    Rather than ask what universal human rights should cover, it should first be questioned whether or not such things as rights actually exist, or whether we merely hold licences.
    For a right to be a right, it must be intrinsic and inalienable, yet when we talk about existing 'rights', all can, in certain circumstances, be alienated; for example, the right to life: certain States can end your life if you commit a certain offence, or your life may legitimately be taken from you by another private individual if acting in self-defence.
    As such, is it truly possible to argue that we all have a set of universal human rights, or do we instead only have a set of licences to life, free-speech, movement etc, that can be revoked in certain situations?

    • @clint5063
      @clint5063 7 лет назад

      You speak of morality, but how can one prove there are any moral truths at all? Demonstrate one. Let me see it with my eyes. Of course you think this is but "blathering nonsense." Morals are not to be seen or touched, but intuited through the "mind," or to put it less euphemistically, through the spirit! Morals are themselves spirits. And like all spiritual things they are figments of the imagination - lies, falsehoods, spooks. All morals were invented by particular people and groups to procure their own power. One who's power is secure need not be a "decent human being." Why should he? For fear of going to hell? There's no such thing. For fear of karma? Again, another lie. For fear of conscience? Only if he's possessed by one.
      Many "freethinkers" renounce a moral or two, but with great difficulty the conception “morality.” Morality is the “idea” of morals, their intellectual power, their power over the conscience; on the other hand, specific morals are too material to rule the mind, and do not fetter an “intellectual” man, a so-called “freethinker.” How easily they overcome "the sins of the flesh" and "the duty to one's nation." But morality in general rules many of these so-called "atheists"; for it, much like the Nation and the Truth, has been set upon the throne of the dead god.
      He who has power has "right."
      If you've followed me this far you might now say, "Wait! The morality I espoused, the rights I stood for, they were my means of acquiring power. Even more, they WERE my power! Yet you seek to take these from me." I do, if your empowerment is incompatible with my own, which is the case with those who's interests are secured through humanism and nationalism alike. Further, there exist no moralities which may procure power for myself and those close to me. The left wing manicheisms of today are at best under-powered weapons against the most virulent threats to my interest.

    • @user-wr8gz7bn5o
      @user-wr8gz7bn5o 6 лет назад

      Clint morality is where we leave our caves, become neighbours and farm the land. Is where a community, rather than a tribe, is built. It changes as our communities change. It serves us, we do not serve morality, but we can make excuses adressing morality. Morality was before the Law, and it is possibly stronger. You can look up the play "Antigone" by Sophocles.
      The right correctly is a different thing; it is power.
      The interest is not a right, but the will behind the acquisition and exercise of a right.
      Practically, there are many different ways of getting your right exercised, depending on your status in your community.
      Thanks for just putting up with me. Just my thoughts.

    Very informative, I feel that in order to globally increase the weight of the Human Rights Act of 1998, we would need to deviate away from declarations and move towards conventions.

    What I most agree with in this presentation is that "human rights" is (just) an idea. Just because many of us value it doesn't mean it's objectively or universally true. From a survey of history and nations' government systems, it should be obvious human rights ARE privileges and they CAN be revoked. Governments do it all the time--both to their own citizens and to foreign citizens. The reason "it" gets incredibly complicated as soon as anyone tries to put the idea into practice is because, as with many human concepts, the idea is incompatible with the physical nature. Nature is not "just" or "fair" and has no obligation to mold the universe to satisfy human wants. All human beings are NOT born equal in dignity and rights because "dignity" is merely a perspective and rights, if they were naturally occurring and universal, like gravity, wouldn't need laws to enforce them.
    Videos, like this one, that argue some abstract human conception is true outside of some people's desires are the main reason I've stopped watching/listening to TED Talks. Please just stick to what the best hard, international evidence shows to be true--not just what feels good or sounds good.

      Your half right. The reason human rights are non existence because humans are now non existent!

      It's self-defeating for human rights defenders to start off by the premise that it's all just a social invention.
