Pakistan Railways imported 30 locomotives of 3200HP from General Motors back in 1985, these locomotives are still working in Pakistan Railways and performing good,
these all locomotive,s are rehabilitated once at Mughalpura workshop Lahore,

I tried to get more information about HGMU30 EMD locomotives as I could, I traveled to Karachi city and went to Karachi locomotive shed and met there loco foremen and he explained me all the facts of this locomotive,
he told me that we called it King of locomotives and I told you that its also my all time favorite locomotive,

It would be a good idea if some manufacturing information was also provided.
These EMD HGMU30 engines were built at Kassel, Hesse, Germany, by a consortium of EMD ( Electro-Motive Diesel is a US manufacturer ) , H (Henschel was a German company making railway engines since mid-19th century at Kassel, Germany. It was known as Thyssen-Henschel in the 1980s when these engines were ordered by Pakistan Railways ), and GM ( General Motors , USA). Pakistan Railways has almost always purchased railway engines by foreign loans and funding. The railway locomotive manufacturers make a consortium for a specific supply contract to suit the terms and conditions of the loan provided by the funding agencies and/or banks plus the commission for elements of the buyer. Buying from a consortium leads to problems in the long run for the buyer/operator because the consortium ceases to exist after some time. It's not difficult to understand why there are so many locomotives in the graveyard of Pakistan Railways and scarcity of new long-life modern locomotives, incorporating the latest technology, when one looks at the buying/purchase practices topped with the legendary corruption in almost all departments of Pakistan Railways.

The bulk of credit for maintenance of these engines and also the development of in-house capability ( to build/manufacture some parts, assemble some from kits and incorporation of new systems to keep the old engines running ) go to the engineers and workers of Pakistan Railway who have been working under very tough conditions and tight schedules to keep the trains running.

I loved this locomotive since it used to station on the backside of my house in LARECHS colony Lahore Cantt. Every day i used to wait for it gorgeous sound...shalimar express and karachi express were originated from cantt station. But tezgam used to pass like a tornado...hauled by our favourite 82XX series...it wa just 30 yers ago from today...and i can listen hgmu producing ge same sound even today...hatts off to our railway maintennance deptt❤️

Old EMD locomotive in India is just similar to this 🙂 one such differences is we have 2 control stand for driving in both direction. 🙂
