We recently remade this video! It's much better and has more information! Link here: ruclips.net/video/_TIBjB0HlLQ/видео.html
'"The biggest-selling album of all time began with a potential pool of 700 songs" Thriller MJ. I think the biggest problem most people have is having no material to chose from.
I've been doing studio stuff for the past 9 months in preparation for my EP. I don't get how people can get them out so fast.
LunarX How is that going for you?
I got my ep of 4 songs done and out in a couple weeks somehow. the last song was a little rushed tho. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right tho
@@danielmoilanen00 thats awesome! I plan to release an album of 11 songs hopefully later this year, i have already released my first single on my channel.
@@louis2366 your song sounds great! Maybe not that much my style but good! Could you check my music out too?
@@danielmoilanen00 yeah sure, thanks for listening!
Thanks alot. I'm gonna try this! I'm working towards this right now! I have the stuff, good friends with a producer! I *am* 13 though, but I won't let that stop me.
Nebula Gamers I am 14 and I am starting a ep process in January
me too, good luck!!!
How’s the album going?
The earlier the better
The Dog Master Music how’s the ep? Did you get it out?
Really loving these new videos, they're class! Would it be possible to do a video on how to actually get into bands as none of my friends play and I don't feel like searching online would be the best option for me, no worries if you can't, keep up the good work!
We made a video on this a while ago:

This video help alot coming from a 16 year old
i just started a band and this is usefull
U still in a band?
Nice pfp man we should hang out
You sir, are a god! Thank you for this breakdown plan. Really helps to kick start the outline process.
You are from Sheffield!same man... Legend!
Wow! This is really a helpful video. We are a rock band based in Singapore will depfinitely use you tips!
Amazing it really helpful a lot🙂👍🙏
i disagree about apply for festival before release the EP. because the EP is the cause and get gigs is the effect. i don’t know, u think?
this is awesome... but what if I just got the idea to make my EP in May? I don't want to wait over a year to release. - inspired but frustrated. thanks for the valuable content :)
Vinny Vintage I'm not an expert, but I think this is more like an example, not every EP releases in September ^^
Question I actually just left my old band, we had a following, had songs out, they’re going on fine, but I wanted to do my own thing. I’m currently paying off school debt and car payments and just don’t have much to save to record and release my first solo EP. I was thinking of doing a kickstarter as I think I have enough of a presence built up in my area to get support. Do you have any tips/thoughts on crowd funding and how to incorporate that into an EP release? I’m trying to learn my own mixing and then have someone else master but even mixing my own stuff has been a learning curve 😂
Whats youre band name
But how do i find people near me that are interested in starting a band?
Start going to gigs and meeting people, establish connections etc. Loval facebook musician groups are also great places to meet people
I find with my band money is always an issue when it comes to studio time, gigs, ect. This is helpful though.
Thank u🙏🏼💥
classic mathematics ...you are appreciated
great thank you
Very nice 👊
Thank you for the video!
We are a band just starting out, and we are planning an EP release in the summer, and a single in the next couple of months. What songs should we play in gigs before the release before our EP is released, for example the single release gig, which will be our first gig. Can we play songs that will be in the EP or not? If not, then we can only play one original song(our single) and the rest covers?
Thanks
Id play all the EP, most bands play songs live way before they are ever released!
The Music Lab brilliant thank you! We have three songs written already and we are writing one more!
Ok thank u will do :)
I want that car
Aw no my iPad was lagging and I kept tapping it and I think I reported ur comment by accident ! I'm so sorry if I have done!
+Calum Anderson No problem!
First single on my channel
What if your a kid like me who has a rock band? Could you do a video on that please also love your vids
Every video on this channel is aimed at helping bands, take your pick!
can kids have gigs?
If The Festival Lets Ya!
How long would you recommend before releasing a full length album?
If you have to ask the question, you're not ready.
There is no defined amount of time, there's just specific circumstances where it makes sense to!
Around How many songs for an ep?
3-6 is generally the standard, with 3/4 songs being the most common!
I'm leaving electric guitar any books video ect u suggest????
What do you mean by 'leaving'?
+The Music Lab i believe tatiana meant to say learning
+Tatiana Whillians If you meant 'learning' ... look at the songs you want to play, and search "How to play SONGNAME on guitar" on RUclips! You can do the same by searching for tab, or scales and practise them!
Play for around 20-30 mins a day (if you can) and you'll be well on your way!
awe thank you and yes i meant learning haha
how to i found labels what i do ??
Generally we'd recommend not just looking for a label. If a label is interested and would want to put money into you, they will find you.
How much of a following should your band have before doing this? Also, should you have released anything before this?
do this for every release, every year! ... if your in the really early stages, and arent considering a releasr yet, push it half a year back and give yourself more writing time!
Harveyes you should release at least a couple of songs to get your name out there
Hey
Hi!
How does an ep work like how do u create one? I'm a new artist and I just want to create a ep and release it.
Write a bunch of songs, put them together, try to get it out there
@@saintemory9556 not actually, an ep must be 2-6 songs
I've watched this video so many times
Will do. When it's done, we'll send you a link for our indie rock ep🤘🏻
FirebirdBand1 how did you get on?
W 9797 😂
Hi really helpful I am a new singer songwriter about to release my music :)
INDICELT Cool! What's your stage name?
Gonna give this a shot
I love the heart behind this presentation! I am working on my calendar for my debut EP. Focus!
Can you do a planning an EP Release 1 Year Plan for a solo artist?
This applies to any artist!
what if you can't really gig would you just do everything else or is there something else you could do instead? Thanks. :)
Still do everything else! Just make a massive effort on social media, as that's your only source of exposure!
thanks
Is the free single the same song as the lead single?
Lead single is a song you release first in an album/Ep release plan.
Free single is just any single you do for free. These can be the same song, but don't have to be.
informative. I'll start planning now
this video just made my entire weekend. thank you Music Lab!
Thank you for the kind words 💙
How do you actually release an EP on iTunes though?
It's not essential to get onto iTunes, bandcamp is a great site for selling music! You have to go through a Label/Distributor to get onto iTunes.
Ahh okay, thanks guys! :)
+The Music Lab I believe there's also some website that helps to get you on Spotify and all that without a label or anything :)
Check out Distrokid, Routenote, CD baby and Tunecore! You don't need a label. You could be independent but you're gonna need to think about that very well before actually going independent. Good luck!
Amuse is a free service which helps you to release music to all major music distributors like Spotify, Apple Music and more.
You forgot the fact that 6 months go by in a flash, life happens, work sucks, might get one song idea out in a 4 month period. Now the lawn needs mowed. Worked sucked today, taking a nap after work. Then gotta clean the kitchen. Maybe I'll get some writing done tomorrow...
Thnx 4 d effort of sharing this, man! Got a question.. when releasing a single, what should my release party playlist look like? Shall i play some older songs? Or just the new single twice (at the starting time and ending)?
Just at the end tends to be how most people would do it, you're gradually building to that moment! In theory it will be the climax of the night, and that doesn't work if everyone's already heard it once!
Aaaaaanswers!! Thanks so much!
Most the shows I've been to were in the winter, and I live in Canada...
Any photo-shoots?
You only need photos for blog features or social media, they're completely optional and sometimes can harm a band more than help it, especially if they're too generic/ cliché!
I'm curious to know how to monetize all of it and pay for roof/food with the music, I'm searching for knowledge on how to properly produce things, while not dropping the ball too much on the monetary element of the project... any suggestion of videos I should look into? All the "copyright" stuff is a world I yet have to discover from scratch...
Great video! Could you make a pdf version of this?
Amazing. thank you for sharing this information. wow. saved me a lot of trouble shooting. its my first album
wow nice planning bro...thats the method i will be using

Artwork?
The timescale for artwork doesn't really matter, provided you have it by the time you start promoting!
