- Students training aid on how to connect a final circuit (lighting circuit) into a consumer unit (distribution boards, fuse box or fuse board). This videos shows best practice with number identification of conductors, the use of a torque screwdriver and the dressing and terminating of cables. How to fit a MCB (miniature circuit breaker) into a consumer unit.

what a cute little consumer unit, i love it.
Another great video! I wish my tutors when I was at college doing my 2330 were as informative and as good as you are. I have learnt more from your videos than I did for the 3 years that I spent at college when I was doing my electrical qualifications. I used to build control panels years ago and everything was torqued to spec, all cables were labelled with idents and back then I always used to wonder why these procedures weren't conducted in general electrical installations. I am 17th edition qualified and here we are now all these years later doing what I thought should have always been done from the start as it has always been done when building control panels etc. Cheers!
Wow thanks for such a detailed comment. Me, Matt and Joe try are very best we will never be right all the time but we do care and try our best. Thanks for the support and keep watching Gaz
Excellent clear instruction. Many thanks
Thanks ππ»
Why would someone dislike a video like this !!! Great video many thanks again
Thanks π
Because some electricians are like magicians...... They dont like to share their secrets on how easy it is to make your money disappear.
Wow nice nice π
That video was really really great and helpful please share us same more video to help us Itβs easy more than I learn in college
Hi. Thanks for the positive feedback π. I have over 200 videos on my channel and I add at least 2 per week... hopefully you will find many more that will aid your studies. Our other channel is Joe Robinson Training and it Concentrates on science and principles. Have a great week and thanks again Gaz
Do i always have to use a circuit breaker? Ive noticed my garage has mains straight into 20a mcb π§
Hi, enjoy the videos always very clear and precise.
Do you use the torque screwdriver on all work on consumer units/DBs?
Whatβs the torque screwdriverβs make & model if I wanted to buy one?
Thanks
Ross

We use a wiha torque screwdrivers at my college. The regs and manufacturers requires all terminations to be returned to manufacturers Specification for tightness. My learners are on week 6 and installing there first consumer unit and they are all using torque screwdrivers. Thanks for the question all the best GSH Electrical.
Great video gary !! thanks to you all them years ago at college im now a lecturer myself ps..it's (swampy)
i have a fsu running from 2 gang switched unit in small bedroom it is powering a bed side light with a pull string i need to install another fsu to power outside secuirity light can i take a feed from the fsu that powers bedside light ? wasnt sure how many fsu you can from ring circuit
like it
Hiya, is it possible to have a timing unit in the consumer unit so power is only available at set times of the day?
Great series of videos although only a diyer these gonna help my friend save a fortune when building his house
Were you playing darts on that backboard or did it have severe woodworm?
I'm a student, shouldn't the MCB and RCB be connected at the bottom with a copper bar?

The above link is to a consumer unit with a bus bar... we use Crabtree Startbreaker boards that are different by design π. All the best Gaz

Those number tags would come in handy for LAN cables. Never seen the m
for a normal house consumer unit how would I know which wire to put in each terminal? Like there are multiple CPC and Neutral terminals as well as line

Hi,is it ok to run flexi cable from cu?
No - why would you want to #kopexking
Thank you very muvh for your answer, the reason is I wanted to connect fcu to cu and clip the cable to white skirting so I thought flexi white cable will look much better than that grey one as it is in the room.Of course I wanted to put some ferruls on the stranded ends.Is it just not good practice or is it against regulations?
Why no RCD? Why is RCCB sufficient in this instance?
Same thing π
Is this our next practical job?
+Jack Savage
Hi. Yes you will be connecting up a two way consumers unit. Then its the two testing videos first continuity of cpc and polarity of our one way lighting circuit then insulation resistance of the same circuit π. Thanks
Two cables to the lamp????Who would do that???
Knives and fingers,no matter how careful you are ,at some point you will have an accident. Why are you not using wire strippers????.Prevention is the best cure, you need to be aware of doing a pre-work survey and carry out a risk assessment before any work is commenced.
Hi. We are in a generation of iPads and Xboxβs so I go old school to build hand skills very lacking in younger people... we do move to wire strippers as we progress of the basics. Thanks for commenting GSH Electrical π.
Stay away from strippers they take all your earnings. π
Be a bit more of a libertarian and let people be, you can adhere to those practice's don't force them on others.
Safety police out again, lol
