      When I was a kid my father also built a few plastic model kits for me. Great stuff but I couldn’t resist the urge to play with them, so eventually all of them were badly damaged and went into the trash. 😝 Fourty years later I rediscovered this hobby but unfortunately I don’t have any kids myself… Have a great time together and enjoy your builds! 🙂 Thanks for watching!

    Kinda odd that they didn't provide decals for the spine and wing walkways as the did with the stabilizer. 🤷🏽‍♂️
    If you want a beat up looking one from Guam, you can rust up the gear and other steel parts then splatter grease liberally on the gear and wells. I'm planning on my 1/144 as 7-6468 in Vietnam 3 color with white belly which was in the above condition when I got it. The 1/72 will be in the 2 color grey/green of 8-0230 right after I got her back from Depot with that new scheme.

      Alwzys enjoy the hobby, and make certain you have at least a basic tool set which you will add to over time, and always keep reading the instructions, all the best for your new hobby. Best regards from Australia.

      I‘m with Les, most important is to have fun and enjoy the hobby! And don’t be put off if something goes wrong - because it definitely will! 😉 Try to choose easy models with single-colored paint schemes and gradually increase the difficulty level or try new techniques when you feel comfortable and satisfied with your results. You will soon find out which skills are easy for you to pick up and which require more effort to achieve the desired results. For example, I love painting my models but I hate sanding and filling gaps, yet it needs to be done to have a decent looking model. Always try to be patient and take your time, a good build can (and will) take weeks or even months. Hope this helps. All the best, Oliver/RWO 🙂

      Sure, it’s called Molotow Liquid Chrome. It comes in different tip sizes, the one I’m using is 1mm. You can also see it at 8:23 in the video. 🙂 Thanks for watching!

    Time just flew by watching this video - more therapy than anything, loved it.
    A question if I may. I haven't touched a model in over 30 years and am motivated to start again, back then it was tube cements, which meant being careful to avoid excess seeping out of joints. So it was apply a thin film to the edge to be glued and press together the pieces. With the new(er) liquid cements though, like the Ultra Thin Tamiya, I notice people dab around a join and then capillary action draws it in, but this leaves a visible 'spot' on the exterior surface. In some instances you can see a lot of these patches all over the finished model.
    Does this affect the surface at all? Being thin it wouldn't be a raised blob as I remember would happen in the 'good ole days' that required sanding back, but I worry (too much) about the effects on the plastic, if it causes damage to it. I suppose I should just buy a small cheap kit to practice on - haven't done that yet - but I'm a worrier as I don't want to stuff up even an expendable one. Can you shed light on this? Cheers.

    • @RWOModels
      @RWOModels 2 года назад

      Thanks for your kind comment! In fact this hobby really is a kind of self therapy for me after an accident a few years ago. Glad you liked the video! 🙂 Regarding super thin glue there’s actually no need to worry about those spots you mentioned, on unpainted surfaces. Most likely they will disappear with the first layer of paint. Using glue on painted surfaces is different though and you need to be extra careful. The bond is a lot weaker (if there’s any bond at all) and you easily get those nasty „blobs“ when glue and paint react together. Practicing on a small, easy kit is a good idea. Different types of plastic work differently with your glue, and you’ll soon find out how much glue you need to use. Most important, have fun and don’t be too upset if things get messed up. It’ll happen. ☺️ Greetings from Germany, Oliver/RWO

      @@RWOModels Thanks so much, very kind of you for the detailed reply. I appreciate that a lot.
      I guess after watching videos such as yours, I want the first model I make to be 'incredible' and forget your level of skill and the time you have put in to perfecting it. I should aspire to be that good, but I should realise I am starting from scratch, again. I have a Revell lunar lander bought in 1984, untouched, sitting in a cupboard
      Stores where I am are going to open up again in 2 days time after the worlds longest series of lockdowns and I am going to get a few kits from a real walk in shop (online orders are always damaged by our mail service, nothing beats walking into a shop and seeing everything they have there and picking up a crisp, new box of goodies), I have a list of a couple of easy practice kits to get and a few serious (expensive) ones for much, much later to tempt me to do well, like your Saturn V. I only hope they are still in stock as model kits have been popular and run out quickly! Most of last year you couldn't even find glue.
      Vielen Dank, time to rewatch your earlier videos and take more notes 😁. Greetings from Australia. Oh, your videos really are put together so well.... ha ha , another thing I wish I could do - but model building first.

Enjoy your builds, stay safe and take care! Cheers, Oliver/RWO

      On my main desk I use a Panasonic Lumix Micro-Four Thirds system camera which is attached to a modified PC monitor desk mount. The camera is located overhead, and the field of view is set up in such a way that my head is not visible in the recorded image. On my second desk - which is actually more or less my illuminated airbrush spray booth - I've been using my old iPhone which I'm gradually replacing with a second, smaller system camera (also mounted overhead) allowing more advanced, manual settings for higher and more consistent image quality. I'm constantly working on my camera and lighting setup, and if you look through my older videos you'll (hopefully) see a few advances and improvements. :) Thanks for watching!

    do u have to spray clear coat before panel line?

    • @RWOModels
      @RWOModels 2 года назад

      It is definitely safer to seal in your work with a clear coat (preferably gloss clear) before continuing with washes/panel line colors. This way, everything you’ve done before (painting, decals) is protected in case you need to correct or fix something. With this build I passed on the clear coat because I knew I only wanted to apply panel line color in a few places where no decals could be damaged. Hope this helps.

      Hi, I have a large box where I collect all sorts of foam pieces from packagings etc. in different sizes. I picked a few suitable parts, roughly cut them into shape and pushed them into the gear bays as well as the bomb bay so that they cover all the previously painted areas. No big deal actually. 🙂 Hope this answers your question? Thanks for watching!

    Eine Frage zum Vallejo Surface Primer: Wie sprühen Sie den? Ich verdünne den mit Wasser, und trotzdem verstopft meine Airbrush IMMER. Ich habe (glaube ich), die selbe Pistole (H&S Evolution).

    • @RWOModels
      @RWOModels 2 года назад +2

      Der Schlüssel könnte die Verdünnung sein, ich verwende für Vallejo Farben und Primer ausschließlich den Vallejo Airbrush Thinner. Je nach Fläche nehme ich beim Primer die 0,2er oder 0,4er Düse bei 1,2 bis 1,5 bar. Manchmal spuckt es ein bisschen, wenn ich zu wenig verdünne, aber im Großen und Ganzen hatte ich noch keine Probleme mit den Vallejo Primern. Ausnahme ist die Farbe Weiß, damit kämpfe ich auch meistens. 😉 Oder vielleicht mal ein, zwei Tropfen Flow Improver beigeben?
