That was very informative. I collect tarot cards. I wish I had not gotten rid of my aquarian cards years ago. They were from the early 80. Most older ones are very expensive now. The ones I have, I won't part with. Now I will just hold on to any new as well, they can go out of print fast. Love the tarot.
Thank you so much for this video!! I just bought a vintage copy and had no idea what exactly I had. From a quick internet search, it is clear no one has any idea what edition they have and there is no consistency to how they're being priced. Most everyone is claiming to have a first printing and that just isn't the case. It is outrageous! With your help, I discovered I bought a mid to late 70's Dobbs Ferry printing with cobalt blue backs. Much love from Minnesota!
I’m desperately after any vintage version of this deck. Keeping my eye out on eBay for a copy. Thank you so much for your help and hope I find one soon!
I live in Baltimore Maryland and just acquired my first vintage Aquarian tarot deck. It has a different backing, which is kind of odd to me and it’s also a learning deck. It has key words on the top in the bottom it’s totally different than anything I’ve ever saw and it does say 1970 Morgan press, but it also says Baltimore, Maryland, really strange how I have this deck and it looks nothing like the backs of the other decks that you’ve acquired. Very interesting.
Very useful video. I didn't know about the orange backs. These decks are getting more pricey now. Everyone tries to sell the black boxes as 1970 as all say copyright 1970 on the back. Well over $100 for a proper 1970 set. I've been considering a set for a bit less in black box with the blue and white back so good to know these are 1980s. Someone on ebay is currently trying to sell a Spanish lamnguage set in green tuck box with a barcode on the pack ( from 1997 at best ) for $500 as rare and OOP !!
Thank you so much for this video! My first deck was an 80s Aquarian. I will go back and reread The Psychic Tarot. I remember it as being a bit chauvinistic, but I am much better these days at gleaning the good stuff and forgiving the rest. I actually have 2 decks from the 80s but recently needed to trim one of them to minimize damage from an over zealous cat. I hope it wasn't my firest but haven't been able to tell them apart for years.I admire your collection very much. I also really enjoy your videos, you always have the best things to say.
Thank you so much for watching and writing! I'd love to see how your trimmed version turned out... after its encounter with your very dedicated cat-tarotista! - The Psychic Tarot is kind of a hoot, and yes very much caught up in its time. Gleaning is essential! xoxo
You are one helluva tarot scholar, woman! SO insightful! I LOVE the way you get in there and investigate and study and offer up the fruits for all of us to benefit from! I watched this last night before bed. Then I got on the eBay to check out what was available. You're right -- plenty of vintage decks for not a lot of dough. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for a really good one. I LOVE this deck. And it's so full of AIR! GAH! And now that I entered "vintage tarot" into eBay, they are recommending so many GORGEOUS vintage decks that I can hardly contain myself. This could be a problem. I'm breathing deeply and reminding myself that I recognized that i have enough. . .while simultaneously checking my bank account! LOL!
Speaking of eBay -- are you familiar with the Italian publisher Ill Meneghello? The decks on offer from that publisher are so delicious I can hardly contain my appetite. . .I have a serious delight in Visconti-Sforza, Marseilles, and old world style decks. I sometimes still cannot believe I let go of so many of my old decks and reproductions. They went to a tarot in prison project, which, although it makes me as happy now as it did then, I am definitely missing those decks. I really hope they helped someone grow. And holy cow -- I cannot believe what is out there!
It reminds me of the artwork of the Beatles Yellow Submarine. The Hippie art of the late 60s and 70s. I was just a 5-6year old back then and it reminds me of childhood!
This deck has been on my wishlist for a while and with Christmas coming up I have been watching videos to make up my mind on whether or not to ask Santa for it. And that's when your video came up. Would love to win this deck, thank you so much for the opportunity.
Hi ..... this is really interesting, thank you. My first tarot deck was the Aquarian Tarot. I believe I bought it around 1980. It is in the black 2 piece box with no name on the front and has the borderless wavy back with the concertina style book. However, it does not advertise the Psychic Tarot Book but does have a separate leaflet in advertising a new deck of cards called the Morgan Greer :) which was published in June 1979 so this would bring the wavy back deck to around 1980 ish.
This is fascinating. I have two copies with solid blue backs, one in a Hastings-on-Hudson box, the other has Dobbs Ferry on the back of the box. Both versions have numbered Majors. Sadly neither one came with the LWB so no help there. The cardstock is noticeably heavier on the version in the Dobbs Ferry box. Neither box has the deck title across the bottom like one you showed, only the image of the Fool card.
Wow, this is awesome! I've been looking for a video with all of the versions of the Aquarian Tarot. My aunt owns the 1980s version, and I'm in love. Currently hunting on eBay for a copy. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for making this video. I've been really curious about the evolution of this decks printing. I hope to get a vintage version in the next few months.
I have a deck I bought in 1970 and the back is solid blue, no design. I don't have the box but I kept the cover picture of the Fool. I made a wooden box for it back then and lined it with blue panne velvet in the deep royal blue to match the deck.
Thanks for this. Aquarian was my first deck, long gone now. I've been wanting to replace it but wasn't sure which 70's version I had. Now I think it was the one printed in North Hollywood since I'm an original Valley Girl. Fer sure fer sure. :)
I'd love to enter! I actually have an 80s backing version myself, one of the first US Games editions with the blue wavy background and no borders. The tuck box features The Lovers on one side and The Fool on the other, where as the modern has Temperance instead of The Fool if I'm remembering right. I've been guessing it's probably from around 1989. I was lucky enough to pick it up in the early 2000s bundled with the Psychic Tarot book in a small shop that didn't turn over their stock much... since the 80s, apparently. It was my first deck and I still have it! (The tuck box did not survive well, but the cards are still in pretty good condition considering they lived through 14+ years of use with me.) It was so cool to see all these beautiful vintage editions, this deck has always been and always will be one of my favorites!
I think what you're describing may have been the tuck box from the 90s and - but I haven't seen any great info on that yet.... Thanks for watching and writing! xo
Very interesting. I have what I assume is the current standard size - copyright 1970, 2006 - and it definitely does not have the super high gloss that your version does. I purchased it maybe 5 or 6 years ago. It has a slightly silky sheen more like the tin version, but is almost matte. I can see why you are not enamoured with that plasticy glossy finish. I wonder if there was different cardstock for different markets... I’m in NZ.
Thank you so much for this informative and interesting video. I felt that I have missed out so much for not knowing about this deck earlier. I was mesmerised by the feminity of this deck. I am not sure if I am still in time to join the giveaway? If not, nevermind, I look forward to watching more videos from you!
Hello Lisa! No need to enter me in the giveaway but again, thank you so much for your research on this (one of my favorites) deck! What a wealth of information.
I just did a search and there is a vintage deck with the decorated backs marked down from. 200 to $170. I have that deck I got from a group, don't remember what I paid but maybe $15 or something. The moon card has a significant bend and one of the cards has a plain blue back (replacement card I suppose) but I don't mind either of those things.
I'm in possession of a 1970 solid blue back aquarian. Was in a trunk my husband purchased at an auction along with a pink ankh rws. I would love to know they're value ...
I really enjoyed learning about the different Aquarian Tarot decks. Very interesting indeed. Thank you for sharing. Please enter me in the deck give away :)
Hi Fatima - Actually the drawing is over! But the person who won never claimed her deck - so I'm going to do another giveaway video in the New Year featuring a few decks at a time... Stay tuned, and thanks for watching!
I don't know if you've already discovered this, but the Pacific Games edition originally accompanied this fortune telling game set: www.etsy.com/listing/825488081/vintage-1970s-fortune-teller-game-the?show_sold_out_detail=1&ref=nla_listing_details
Hi Lisa, I hope you don't mind me picking your brain, but I would love your opinion on an Aquarian Tarot deck that I just bought from a seller in the UK (and paid an arm and a leg for, btw!) It's Dobbs Ferry, cobalt blue back (I'm thinking 1975-76) but it DOESN'T have numbered trumps... so harks back to that earlier Hastings on Hudson deck. Where in the timeline would you place it? It didn't come with a white book, but by all accounts it looks like your 1975-76 version in every way EXCEPT trumps aren't numbered. What do you make of that?
Hello, can you tell me if the Physic tarot book ever came as a kit, book and deck, and what type of box that tarot deck was in and what were the backs looking like.
I been looking out on Ebay for a vintage Aquarian deck but so far I have'nt seen anything for under €100 - most are well over that even before postage.
you cannot find the first versions of this deck any more, and if one does, they are very expensive. this video is treasure because not so many people can tell the difference between a 1970 and an 80s deck, because of the copyright info. If you could do a Morgan Greer comparison, that would be really appreciated! thank you
We have a debate going here maybe you can help, what year did the first blue and white backs come out? and tuck box when did they go from 2 piece box to tuck box? thanks! : ) love your vids!
Since I've recently fell in love with the Aquarian this video was very interesting! :) I don't know how it happened, I've never liked this deck before, but now I was offered it in a trade and felt like "Yes please!" and I adore it! I love the stoic faces and cool colors... :) But seriously, what's with the card stock?! :/ I usually like US Games' card stock, but this one is soo plastic?! A bit disappointing I must say and if I ever come across a vintage one I might go for it...
Hi Ania! The new version of the deck has that horrible card stock - but I do have a vintage version that I'd love to trade. Are there any decks you're looking to trade? If you're interested, drop me an email (see my profile for my address). I'll also probably be doing some more giveaway videos in the new year. xoxo
Oh gosh I am blind, cannot find your e-mail?! Haha... I really don't have much for trade currently, what I do have is: Cat's Eye Tarot, Fanuna's Tarot, and the Quareia Magician's Deck. Let me know if any of them sound interesting! :)
oh yeah! email is *now* in my profile (it used to be there, must have gotten erased!) - sorry! I'll do a giveaway for a vintage deck in the new year...
I have a 1993 edition bit Spanish version. So the caligraphy is not the same and is very sad . The back is borderless and is print in Belgium so is gorgeous card stock. I love it even with the poor caligraphy 😊
Informative video Lisa. I don't have this deck but also never seen the 1970's backing with the infinity. Interesting! Thank you for sharing and enter me into the give away please :) I don't have this deck and curious if I'd like it. Thank you xxx
Please enter me to win the deck! This was such an interesting video! It's really made me think more about vintage tarot and the more recent history of tarot. Some day I'd like to add a vintage deck to my growing collection. :)
I have an Aquarian cobalt blue backed UN-numbered deck too! Your's is the only other one I've ever seen. I also scored a couple of the very rare 'self-teaching' Aquarians on eBay for a song. There's just something about the Aquairians that makes collecting each and every edition a necessity... :) Thanks for your video.
That's so cool! I agree with you on everything. I've seen the "self-teaching" ones too - but haven't been clear on what's different with them...? Do you have any of the ouroboros versions?
I have an orange back / black ouroboros , a pale orange back / orange ouroboros and an orange back / white ouroboros. Yes, clearly it was a severe case of Aquarian Obsession for a while :) I purchased all of them on eBay over the last 5-10 years and they weren't at all costly. But in 2017, they seem to be very rare, very collectable and very expensive !
were you reading my mind? I was debating if I wanted this deck and was wondering about the different versions! (if the comp is open internationally please consider me entered!)
ooh that's really weird. What channel did you see it on? I have another gmail account, but there aren't any videos on it... Thanks for letting me know!!
7tokataelen is the name of it. Then after I typed this to you, I saw another copy! That one was from a channel with a Chinese or Japanese name, and I don't know how to make those characters with my phone, sorry. Seems like your video is very popular. I'd contact youtube if I were you. Good Luck!

Saw the deck at a thrift store, it was from the 70s, which I thought was cool! Since it cost less than $3 it was affordable.
Dang! Nice score! xoxoxo
I’m desperately after any vintage version of this deck. Keeping my eye out on eBay for a copy. Thank you so much for your help and hope I find one soon!
Hi Leah! I have a 1970 blue back aquarian 2 part black box university press, Dobbs ferry NY. The deck was never used, box has minimal wear
I live in Baltimore Maryland and just acquired my first vintage Aquarian tarot deck. It has a different backing, which is kind of odd to me and it’s also a learning deck. I think I need to do a vintage giveaway. A bunch of folks seem interested in the deck... But let me know if you find one you like!
Thank you for making this video. I've been really curious about the evolution of this decks printing. I hope to get a vintage version in the next few months.
Yeah - I'm still learning about the evolution - so complex and detailed! Eager to see your vintage deck, when you get it - post a vid!
Found a vintage copy whoop! Can’t wait for it to arrive 😁

OK no... they all have blue backs. The book says 1970 and so does the box. The cards are thin.

would you say the print quality for the modern tuckbox is comparable to the vintage?
Please enter me too!!! I've been wanting it for ages! It reminds me of my hippy relatives in the 1970's :-D Many thanks for doing this!
Absolutely! Consider yourself entered - and glad you're groovin' on that 70s vibe! LOL xoxo
Is the card stock for the Dobbs ferry with the cobalt blue backs good? Like is it better than the modern card stock. Is it glossy? X
We have a debate going here maybe you can help, what year did the first blue and white backs come out? and tuck box when did they go from 2 piece box to tuck box? thanks! : ) love your vids!
Aww thanks for your sweet words! I don't know when the tuck boxes first appeared, but the blue&white backs I think came out first in 1985.

I have an Aquarian cobalt blue backed UN-numbered deck too! Your's is the only other one I've ever seen. I also scored a couple of the very rare 'self-teaching' Aquarians on eBay for a song. Hello... I was wondering if you have two channels?? I saw this video with no audio on another channel just now.
ooh that's really weird.
Good Luck!
I'd like to enter the giveaway please, this deck is on my wishlist :-)
