When moving heavy furniture, pop a carpet mat upside down under the furniture and pull it along. The carpet protects your floor snd makes furniture moving so much easier. Your armoires are beautiful. Love your sewing room Sarah, mine is forever untidy but it is a very “creative” place.
I have to say it's great that you have done up a couple of rooms with two single beds. Sometimes girlfriends aren't comfortable sharing a bed for various reasons... not all the lovely places I have stayed in Europe offered that.
I did not read the comments o your kast video so i dont know if anyone suggested this. Put a personal label on your material items like a name or a logo. So that people know it is handmade from a special chateaux. This adds value.
The dramatic music used for furniture moving was well deserved. I would not have been so cheerful making up all those beds. All the rooms look wonderfully cosy for your guests. I hope they will enjoy all the arts and crafts and delicious food everyone has worked so hard.
SO impressed with the way Steve maneuvered the wardrobe into the room by changing the direction. second nature to him, after my first attempt and it didn't fit that would be the end of that. I remember shopping for a baby stroller , bedding along with other baby necessities, collapsing under the weight and enormity of it all until it finally dawned on me to unwrap the stroller and simply put everything in it and push all the way to the car
The single beds with the headboards. Just a suggestion, I've found if a headboard isn't fixed to the bed, the bed moves as you're leaning on it and the pillows go over the edge.
Instead of headboards, maybe a mini bed crowns for each bed. Rushed top above a decorative cord tie that drapes out the sides. Minimal attachments that are easily removed when back to sewing room. Maybe with matching bed skirts. Could be make out any fabric or pretty sheets. Hope your guests enjoyed their retreat 🙂
I am always astounded by the big, heavy, awkward , solid furniture that existed in the homes long ago that had narrow doors, staircases and hallways. How did they maneuver those pieces through those homes and transport them during moves to another house. Back then I will bet no one offered to help anyone move! I felt your pain moving that armoire.
So glad that you put the heating pads on the mattresses. We’ve done that for about 40 years, though we only had blankets. Our amily members thought we were crazy. Heat rises people. The only problem I have are the wires. My husband figured out, years ago, that I was the Princess from the story about the Princess and the pea.
You two work so hard! But your joy is infectious, and your retreats look so delightful. ♥️ I’ve made cookies the shape of those beet treats, but I had never thought of using vegetables. How lovely! I have a massive 1850’s solid mahogany wardrobe/armoire: 8 foot (2.4 m) tall, over 2 feet (.7 m) deep, over 6 feet (1.8 m) wide. I “rescued” it from Mom. It had never been painted and the wood is beautiful. But we’d moved from a Victorian, and she decided it should be white. Angry that I disagreed with her, she said I’d have to pay her for it if I wanted it, and I couldn’t afford it. She forgot that I had inherited her stubbornness and determination. 😉 To meet her price, I gave her all the money I had received as gifts on graduating from college (which was supposed to be for a serger), and she had to agree, because I had met her price. But she came up with one more roadblock, in part because she felt guilty about taking my money, but she wouldn’t back down either. She said that I had to move it to my room, and I only had three hours to do it, and she made everyone in the family leave the house, thinking that would surely defeat me. But I was determined. I figured out how to take it apart, carried all those heavy pieces up two flights of stairs by myself, and put it back together in my room by the time they got home. (I’m under 5’2”/1.55m, but my family is uncommonly strong. 😉) It’s still my favorite piece of furniture. It’s beautiful, extremely useful (especially in a house built in 1922), and it’s a classic coming of age story. 😁
Love what you guys are doing, creating a creative retreat for creative people. Wonderful!!! The attention to detail of your chefs is incredible and inspiring! xx
Steve you are amazing moving all that heavy furniture by yourself. Especially carrying it up all those stairs. How do you do it? Your chateau is simply stunning. Watching 6ou both make those beds and putting the covers on the quilts l have a fight with the doona every time l change it. Your chefs are artists with the food they create. Making paper is so much fun. Thank you for sharing all you do. It's nice to feel like your there. ❤
I thought my husband and I were the only nuts moving heavy furniture up and down stairs. You two made us look like novices compared to your furniture moving. Very impressive❤
Wow Steve, can't believe you carried that up those stairs by yourself piece by piece. It looks beautiful in that room though. Good luck with the retreat! Sarah are you going to find another room to turn into your sewing room?
Hi Sara & Stephen, Oh the joy of moving a huge armoire. I can truly say your armoire is bigger than mine. I have owned mine since 1970 and it has moved with me four times. It is a different style from yours as it is Eastlake circa 1870. It is one piece that I hope will always be with me. Getting the Chateau ready for the retreat guests is an experience with each bed and guests are treated to a heated bed pad. I've turned mine on and will use it through the cold winter months until the spring thaw. Always looking forward to the next retreat adventure. Mark & Scott
Well done doing all you had to do to move Narnia! 💪🏼✋🏼 Imagine if bed-making were really that speedy! 😄 Have an incredibly enjoyable creative week, you guys! 😊 Love, Jacqueline from New Zealand.
I am feeling guilty not being there to help you as I enjoy a wonderful Indien summer here in Collingwood. Great work with the Amoire Steven. I see many new changes are happening. Have a great retreat. Rosemarie
We do have a couple of small dollies, but sometimes they make things more complicated - like if you can't reach the top of both the armoire & dolly at the same time! And yup, the tower has the only stairs to the 3rd floor.
It is inspiring that you keep on keepin' on! Great that you are getting press coverage. Is there a link to that big one? I missed it, a Canadian magazine I think.
The bedroom you created in your sewing room needs bedskirts. some kind of folded blanket/coverlet at the foot, and an armchair by that standing lamp would be nice!
We love being engaged hosts, and preparing great experiences for our guests. Thankfully we've connected with lots of lovely folks to deliver great creative experiences.
Are the tower steps the only stairs to the third floor? I felt for poor Steve moving those armoire by himself. We have an old French armoire. I moved it about 6 feet across plush carpet once by myself. It was only a distance of about 6 feet from one wall to another wall. I could only move each corner 2-3 inches at a time because of the weight and the carpet. It was foolish to do it by myself. I could have hurt myself badly. I was in my 30s (female) and thought I could do anything if I set my mind to it. God bless you!
We really appreciate the sponsorships as support for our videos - and getting access to great tools like Craftsy & others. Also, the retreats are our core business. We are trying to work hard to deliver (free) content, and also amazing bespoke creative+chateau experiences. With time being the only zero-sum in this world, we sometimes need to video what we do to prep for our events.
It was hard to watch you moving all those pieces upstairs. Maybe you won't have to do it again. Have you made a block pattern of your place with your laser yet? Everyone must send you ideas. You could block print your own makeup bags and scarves and napkins, yada, yada, yada. Have fun.
Thanks for your feedback! Our chefs follow strict food safety protocols, including proper hand washing and food-safe nail products. The video may have caught an awkward moment, but rest assured all proper procedures were followed during prep and service.
The first 1,000 people to use my link will get a full year of Premium membership to Craftsy for only $1.49: go.craftsy.com/manorandmaker/

Good tip, thanks! The best sewing rooms look like a fabric explosion!
Omg the origami stuffed beet - that was amazing !
My jaw literally dropped.
I have to say it's great that you have done up a couple of rooms with two single beds. Sometimes girlfriends aren't comfortable sharing a bed for various reasons... not all the lovely places I have stayed in Europe offered that.
We try an accommodate as best we can.
Wow! Ca&rrying that panel up a spiral staircase! Admiration!
Busy…moving furniture around, making rooms up, chef creations and paper making!!! 😮😮😮
Narnia is a monster. Thank goodness it came apart. It's beautiful, as was the mirrored front armoire.
I did not read the comments o your kast video so i dont know if anyone suggested this. Put a personal label on your material items like a name or a logo. So that people know it is handmade from a special chateaux. This adds value.
Thats a great idea! Thank you!

WOW hard working and fun to be with, a 10 outta 10
SO impressed with the way Steve maneuvered the wardrobe into the room by changing the direction.

Lol - it's so easy to be overwhelmed in the moment. At least you "pushed" through 😂
A lot of prep work! Much appreciated by all participants! Thanks Sara, Stephen, chefs, Kate and Angela!
The electrical blanket controls are better positioned at the head end of the bed for ease of access and to hide the flexes more easily.
i am exhausted watching you two great job
The single beds with the headboards. Just a suggestion, I've found if a headboard isn't fixed to the bed, the bed moves as you're leaning on it and the pillows go over the edge.
Very true. We do have rugs under to anchor the beds.
I absolutely love your guest rooms!
Thank you!

Great ideas! I really want to do the matching bedskirts at some point...
Super Steve up those spiral stairs. 🎉

Staff....
As if it weren't enough to dismantle such a monumental piece, Steve hauled it up a winding stair, as well!
Thus the superhero music! 😂
As always, a joy! Thank you.

Lol. We often say that our doggo is the "prince" from the "prince and the pea" - he does love a comfy bed with no lumps!
Beautiful armoire

I love that story Peni! Well done you! That sounds as big as Narnia, and I'm so glad you love it still!
I’m loving the wallpaper in the room with single beds.❤
I use a quilt or blanket to move heavy furniture.
It's perfect because each person grabs the quilt!
Slide it across the floor where
possible.
What a lovely life you both have made for yourselves. Living my dreams through you.
Pleasure, thank you. You are lovely people.
You are so kind
Being chateau owners and retreat hosts is a LOT of work!
It does keep us busy... some day we might get around to buying a TV...
Wow what a great deal from Craftsy. Thank you for you videos and the beet oragami, WOW, just Wow.
You are so welcome!
Love what you guys are doing, creating a creative retreat for creative people. Wonderful!!! The attention to detail of your chefs is incredible and inspiring! xx
Love to see how your lives are progressing and you work so well together.
Thanks!
Well done guys ! Everything is starting to really look beautiful and very creative. So much fun to watch.😊❤
Thank you so much 😀

The twin beds in the (prior) sewing room could use bed skirts to finish them off. Keep an eye out at the brocantes
Agreed!
I often use a flat sheet!
Well done guys your SUPERSTARS have fun with your guests this week.
Superman Steve!! Such energy and strength. 👏
I thoroughly enjoy your vlogs and look forward to them
Thanks so much!
Thank you for another enjoyable video.
Our pleasure!
You guys are great❤
Always entertaining!
Thanks so much
So happy to see such great progress!
I thought my husband and I were the only nuts moving heavy furniture up and down stairs. You two made us look like novices compared to your furniture moving. Very impressive❤
needs must 😀
The madness is contagious when you fall in love with old pieces...
Wow Steve, can't believe you carried that up those stairs by yourself piece by piece. It looks beautiful in that room though. Good luck with the retreat! Sarah are you going to find another room to turn into your sewing room?
Yes, probably will pick another room for the winter season...

FOUR TIMES! That is dedication - and lots of moving space - well done you!
Loved this video! Brought back fond memories of moving the sewing room! Wish I was there to help
Always on the move Marv :)
The menu starter looks too nice to eat. I am sure the retreat is a success.
Beautiful rooms. Your guests may appreciate the electric blankets if the weather turns very chilly. Thoughtful hosts.
It's so nice to hop into a pre-warmed bed 😂
Wel done guys! I love the wallpaper in Sara's sewing room. And all the the toile de jouy! Yummy. xx
The rooms are Lovely! Well done but the sewing room beds need skirts! Looking great!
Agreed... forgot to order them in the list of tasks to retreat prep!
OMG STEVE Bravo ... in awe of carrying Narnia up those stairs ... I'd have a problem getting myself up there
Fun times!
Alot accomplished...now the fun begins!
Hiya Thankyou for sharing, good luck with upcoming events. Durham Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🐝
Enjoy!
Wonderful Narnia. Wow!
Wonderful video 🥰🥰
Thank you 🤗
Wow, beautiful and ready! Have you ever seen how nurses get a pillowcases on pillows? I think it's easier!
No - I tried looking it up, but all the videos I found involved a lot of crinkling of my newly ironed pillowcases....
Narnia is a beautiful piece of furniture
It is to spite its weight.
Well done doing all you had to do to move Narnia! 💪🏼✋🏼
Imagine if bed-making were really that speedy! 😄
Have an incredibly enjoyable creative week, you guys! 😊
Love, Jacqueline from New Zealand.
If ONLY bed making was that easy!
My back hurt just watching you make all of those beds!!!
Great vlog 🎉
I use a flat sheet for a quick makeshift box spring cover,
AKA...dust ruffle.
Great idea!
I am feeling guilty not being there to help you as I enjoy a wonderful Indien summer here in Collingwood. Great work with the Amoire Steven. I see many new changes are happening. Have a great retreat. Rosemarie
Ah, we miss you too. No need to feel guilty tho! Keep Collingwood going for us!
I loathe and detest making beds….and I’ve only got one😳😳😳😅
Lol.
Good job, Stephen
Gosh you all need a flat dolly for all the furniture you have to move about. And of COURSE it had to go up the spiral staircase.
We've been on CBC & CTV National, Toronto Life on-line and in print, and a few other places. You can check the press page on our website for links!
The bedroom you created in your sewing room needs bedskirts. some kind of folded blanket/coverlet at the foot, and an armchair by that standing lamp would be nice!
I agree!
That is an amazing armoire - -- oh to have the space :)
I love that you two actually work on your property. Yes you bring in folks to run the courses but that didn’t look easy.
We love being engaged hosts, and preparing great experiences for our guests. Thankfully we've connected with lots of lovely folks to deliver great creative experiences.
@@ManorandMaker it looks great.
That’s a lot of work.
It is but a labour of love.
I’m thankful that I don’t have that many bedrooms!
Everything looks great! I would love to come there sometime!

Yup, the only steps to the third floor. The number of times I have given Stephen heck for moving things that were waaaaay too heavy...
Looks like fun fun fun! Wish I were going to be there! Making paper, origami beets & more! Nice!🎃👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I thought they were dipping strawberries at first.
Do you have heated pads in all the beds rather than heat the rooms?
We have both so they work together for maximum comfort.
You have some beautiful beds! Have fjun
Best wishes on a successful retreat❤❤❤❤❤
Call Phillp he is good with putting those together.
Steve's often "collaborated" on moving furniture :)
Can you create a permanent sewing room? It seems a shame that you have to keep dismantling one to accommodate guests.
You look like you are heaving the world’s most inefficient shield while fighting your way up the spiral stairs.
Not good food hygiene to touch your face and nose, and then touch the food.
You're always selling

We LOVE the ideas people send us. And no we haven't made the block print yet, so now it's officially on the list! Thanks!
Chef on the right scratched her face while working with the beet root appetizers and wearing dark nail polish... not very professional or appetizing
Thanks for your feedback! Our chefs follow strict food safety protocols, including proper hand washing and food-safe nail products. The video may have caught an awkward moment, but rest assured all proper procedures were followed during prep and service.
