- I have officially switched roof top tents after 1.5 years on the road with my old set up. I have been using the iKamper Skycamp mini for the past week and a half through Arizona and Utah and am impressed to say the least. It is the first expandable mini hard shell tent of its kind and I am excited to test it out over the next few months. This video is short review of my first impressions of the Skycamp mini.

Great video, it'd be cool to see some drone footage of wherever you're currently recording (maybe as some b-roll) - assuming you can fly a drone in that area.
I wish I could have! You can't fly drones out at Alstrom point unfortunately!

2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, Rhino-Rack Backbone with Vortex cross bars. Main Line Overland in West Chester, PA just installed my iKamper Skycamp Mini. Its small and light, but roomy enough for two people plus a dog. :) I'm excited, thanks for your video, it helped in my decision making.

Love the idea of off-grid camping on BLM land. Just wondering how accessible some of it is to RV's other than your Jeep. Love the idea of parking with a view similar to this in my RV!
It would be pretty difficult to get an RV out to that spot! Would not recommend trying haha. There are definitely a lot of great views out there accessible to an RV but I primarily focusing on getting to places RV's can't!
I own the turf stuff delta roof top tent. That is what I believe you had. It weighs 130lbs.

Great video, thanks for the info, it’s really helpful. I was looking at this for my GX460. My idea was to put it on a folding carrier on the hitch. Just unfold it behind the truck, and have a tent off the ground but don’t need a ladder.
This is actually really awesome. I like the idea of a roof top tent. I’ve only ever seen people inside the car itself so these setups are really interesting!

I am looking to replace my ARB RTT with a hard top. I like the IKamper design because the side entry design has a rain cover over it. Almost all of the front hinged clamshell designs have a back entry (with or without a rain cover) but only alucab offers a side rain cover optionbut but at an unreasonable cost. Most tent reviews are shown in good weather.....no rain!!!
Very nice somone commented 4gs no fing way well to that I say you get what you pay for no one is making anyone buy it lol but if its worth the money its hard to put a worth on it becouse its a home and 4 grand is great for that tent.

Nobody reviews packing it away....ours is a major pain to pack, especially at the front!!!
stick-on solar panels are becoming big...and so, I'd want the hard lid to be totally smooth, that is, without that raised band in the middle, which might make applying solar panels tricky?

Great review Drew. I have Mini on its way as well. Your review is the first I have seen with it mounted to a pioneer platform, which I also have. Did the mounting hardware from iKamper work with the rack or did you have to drill holes directly through the rack to mount it securely? Thanks
Thanks Dale! Love hearing you have your own on its way! Great question and I wish I would have addressed it in the video. Mounting was very simple. The hardware iKamper gives you works great with the pioneer rack!

You mentioned a space heater. Where do you put it without knocking it down ?

Would like to see a video of having this setup with all your sleeping gear before you go to sleep. Would this fit 2 medium size persons nicely?
I like roof top tents in theory and I especially like the hard shell type. But here's why I won't buy one. First, the price. $3500 for a roof top tent is ridiculous! Next, even though it's lighter than many, it's still too heavy for me to hoist up onto the roof by myself. Then once it's on my Jeep, my rig is now too tall to fit in my garage. So in order to get the Jeep back into the garage I'd have to remove the roof top tent. Then I have the problem of where to store something that big? I think I'll stick with my ground tent. On the rare occasions where that doesn't work, I'll just recline my front passenger seat and sleep in the Jeep.
