About as close to Bartok as Grieg gets! Great music - GREAT playing.

Superb use of folk dances by Grieg. He precedes Bartok and Kodaly in this. There's a very good recording on the BIS record label.

Myllarguten's Wedding March is so lovely. 19:16
Contemplative and sweet instead of celebratory.

it's truly heartbraking, just shed a few tears listening to it after having read the remarks below the title :')

Technically the hardest Grieg piano pieces (granted, these were based on / transcribed from Hardanger-fiddle music...) But so beautiful. I listened to these when I'm exhausted, and I felt cleansed.

Looking forward to what you have Slåtted for after you exhaust the Grieg opuses!

Presque tout en ré majeur !
Mieux que les pièces lyriques sans aucun doute.

Luminous, joyful, beautiful. But the bride of Skuldal might need to lose some weight.

The collection is maybe not the best of Grieg's opus (some of them are way too similar), but No.14, the Goblins Procession, is probably one of my favourite piano pieces ever, I think it even predates jazz.

Your comment's been kicking around in my head for a little while. I'm curious what you mean by some of them being "way too similar"? Do you mean because the majority of them are in D Major, so they use a similar color palette? The music is transcribed from a tradition of Norwegian fiddle music that tends to share similar earthy dance-like musical qualities from Slåt to Slåt, so I see where you're coming from with the similarities, but I think his music honors these Norwegian folk musical traditions well, and this piece is best enjoyed in the vein of appreciating Hardanger fiddle style, rather than expecting it to fulfill the whims of another musical culture. That's just my take.

@@tchaffman Sorry, my remark probably came out a bittle more harsh than intended. I didn't want to be unrespectful of the Norwegian folk music, it just struck me that some of this dances share the same melodical and rhytmical elements way beyond merely having a common base. Nothing about any attempt to force them into the Western classical canon, just a consideration on the music material itself. :)

@@ninadasilva1867 Beside the fact that Merriam-Webster actually has a definition for "unrespectful", I don't think that being *disrespectful* of no native English speaker people is the best way to teach respect to others. :)
Also reading all comments and replies (when I clarified what I meant) and not starting a discussion with an aggression could be more productive for everyone.
