    Very good review, I like the way you reviewed it from an average rider's perspective. I own both the 400 and the 650. Just like you said, the 400 is really, really good off road. It's also great for around town, but basically useless on the freeway or for long trips on road. The 650 is great on the highway and has a LOT more torque and passing power. And a LOT more comfortable. Plus the 650 is good enough off road for average riders. To me, the 400 feels too much like a toy. DR650 all the way

      I was looking for a drz for a while and was either getting bikes that were in poor condition, had questionable histories, or were flat out too expensive. I ended up finding a dr for the right price, needs some small things but overall I got good bang for my buck. Also being able to hang with family and friends who ride street specific bikes on the highways is a huge plus. I'm happy with my bike

    I think Suzuki should keep the dr650 in production as a cheap dual sport, but it would be cool if they would make a drz650s and sm that were liquid cooled, improved forks, and other little things like that.

    Great review bro.
    I had a DR650 for four years and loved it said i'd always own one.
    Then I tried my wife's DRZ400... Wow... Just like the 650 you throw on a good slip on exhaust, tires and a jet kit you have the ultimate street/dirt bike. Maybe if we didn't also have street bikes I would likely still be on the 650.
    Minus the freeway speeds I think the DRZ400 wins the fun factor hands down.

    I have the 2019 model. I really had a dilemma to purchase which of the two types you are describing . i did indeed change the rider's pegs to wider. I have a size 46 in the riding boots and have difficulty raising gears in the shift lever the original one, in standing position. What would you suggest?

    Great video. Love the comparison with the 650 and the average rider perspective as well as the comments for larger riders; I am 6'5 and about 250lbs and have had a lot of people tell me different things about what bike I should get or 'need' (If a lime electric scooter can get me cruising at 15mph I think a bike like this could handle me ok, I know long term wear is different having been a cyclist for near 30 years however, lol). But, great vid gave you a like and subscribed so please make more, I can live through your vids till I get my own motorcycle;) any advice for a person of my size looking for a first bike and dual sport would be appreciated!

    Really interested in the 650, glad to see this comparison video :D
    I'm more toward the 650 because I'll primarily use it for road, commuting or long distant adventures. and comport. I live in a northern climate where it snows and I could winterize my ZX6R and let the DR650 handle the sand and salt they put in the road as well as the cold temperatures.
    Anyway, I'll be sure to check out more of your videos :D

    Hey man. Dig your videos. I just bought a DR650. Only thing keeping me from a DRZ is that I wanted something to turn into an ADV bike that I could take also on the highway. Right now I live in Phoenix, and highway is super necessary here, especially for me to reach the trails. One day, though, I'll live in a rural area and get a DRZ. Where you located?

    Having 70 bikes now in past 30 years. 50 of them air-oil cooled. Hillclimbed-dragraced-enduros-and dualsports-you can run race all day long on highway or desert and not tell one difference in power or durability with air cooled guys raced Baja 1000 and 40 years air cooled motocross and not much difference with lap times. Everyone I know. Bought the 650 because it was air cooled. So that's only thing I disagree about your review. Everything else on point

      I’m 40 2 years ago I had a 2017 400s I just trail road on and I loved it. Then wanted a sm so sold it, I’ve currently been riding a 2020 400sm, I’m 6’2 200lbs, the power band on the 400 is a tame power , nothing that’s going to run away from you , I love my bike but I need just a lil more power and I’m thinking a 650 dr would fit me better as I don’t trail ride a lot anymore. But I do gravel roads here in Ohio and some 45 min-1 hour trips on interstate’s to my fishing spots on it . I did the rear sprocket change out for better highway speeds but with the size of it I get pushed around Just my two cents

    • @Voyage2NoWher3
      @Voyage2NoWher3  8 лет назад

      +brandtagone yes. I have to turn the bike off at stop lights. I also can't go slow in the heat. If I am riding with someone who is slow it is hard. I have to stop and let them get ahead a ways. Then I catch up and do it again. Better safe than sorry when it comes to it. Even liquid cooled down here can be taxing on the bikes in some of our more extreme heat.

    I've got a feeling that if you got on a DRZ 400 with a 3x3 mod, exhaust, aftermarket seat, jetted and geared, you'd never look at a DR again. I personally went from DRZ to a street legal CRF 450. Also, IMHO, the honda XR 650 is a better version of the DR 650.

    I have never ever heard of a DR650 seizing due to over heating. They seem to be able to dissipate heat rapidly. What you need to look at is what you want to use the bike for. Try ADV Rider web site for some more info. My opinion is if you are doing long haul with luggage both black top and off road then get the DR650. If you ride like Voyage2NoWher3 then maybe the DRZ400 is the best option.

    What? Inverted forks???? Since when???

    i have never managed to overheat the DR650 or to come even close. when i installed my performance header and took out the baffle of my leo vince exhaust i had real trouble to get it to operating temperature, even with a lean mix. at 100F outside i got it once to 200F in a traffic jam but usually its not getting over 175F

      What performance header did you get to fit the Leo Vince? I'm looking into one as well.
      Cheers!

    They are NOT inverted forks. That's the DRZ400SM, not DRZ400S.

    I'm torn between the drz400 and modded crf250l. Which is better?

    • @Voyage2NoWher3
      @Voyage2NoWher3  7 лет назад +2

      +Michael Blencowe my opinion is the DRZ400. 250L seems to be underpowered.

    • @aaronhansen8037
      @aaronhansen8037 7 лет назад +1

      Michael Blencowe get the DRZ 400 over the 250L. I bought the 250L, and have regretted it. Not enough power.

    • @Voyage2NoWher3

      +Aaron Hansen my wife has the 250L also. It's not great.

      Get the Z. More power than the 250L and it weighs less. Also the Z's front and rear suspension is multi adjustable. (it's still considered very competitive amongst newer bikes.) The 250L doesn't have adjustable forks. In fact it's only got 1 spring in front- on the right side!

  • @HELacey

    that DRZ does not have inverted forks.

    • @bongodave13
      @bongodave13 7 лет назад +2

      It doesn't. The SM version does.

    • @wildone2163

      exactly, besides inverted or not you would not noticed a difference anyway.

    Ah, the DRZ400S does not have inverted forks. I think the 400E had them, but not the S model. Wish it did.

    • @Mark-ch3gu
      @Mark-ch3gu 6 лет назад

      The E didn't have them. Only the SM- the Super Moto. It's only got about 3/4 of suspension travel that the S and E have.

      @@RKmndo yes but how much will it cost to get a new 2021 dr650 with good sear and suspension? I Prefer that to a 450lbs 10000$ yamaha t700

    • @RKmndo
      @RKmndo 4 года назад +1

      @@SolomonsMartialArts I'm fine with the stock seat. Seat Concepts is decent for under $200 if you're not.
      Suspension can be over $1K, or it could be almost free. DR-Z400S suspension could be cheap to swap on. Sell stock parts to recoup some cost. Spring it appropriately.
      New DRs for $6500 OTD still aren't a stretch.

    $200 plex valve into the dr650 will blow your 400's fork away.

      Caden Wendt either. They have similar seat heights.
