Beautiful state!!❤❤❤
Many years ago I was a middle school teacher in a community
About 90 minutes from the Dunes. For several years I took
7 th and 8th graders to visit the
Dunes. The really athletic kids
Ciuld go up and down all day.
I usually made one full trip from
The main thing parking area
A day to check out the area and
Make sure kids were ok. Many
Students and adult chaperones
Stayed at the park area at the
Entryway to the dunes and never climbed up or down.
They truly are a natural wonder
And are formidable. Be mindful
Of your physical condition and
Take water with you. Have fun 😁
Pressuring her to go down is just wrong. She knows her limit.
Wise girl! Lol.
That's an awesome view
Ya, from the top! No way in hell I’m going down, that climb up is a nightmare.
Beautiful family
Zig zag pattern is much easier....never climb up in a straight line...
100%
Did Seth make it!? He sat after only 10 feet 😂
Someone knocked the sign down? Really?
The dune here is always changing, wind is either eroding the sand away which is why the sign is down or burying in sand in which case the NPS needs to dig it out. I've climbed this many times, my best was 3 times consecutively. Every spring the Park Service brings in a bulldozer to re-contour the dune to keep the trail to the viewing platform accessible to the public. If you are not able to climb the dune back to the top simply walk south a half a mile to the south to bar lake were there is a parking lot.
Also you can walk south maybe a 1/4 mile and get into the wood line and follow the edge of the bluff up a gentle incline back to the top in the shade of the trees. No reason to pay 3000 dollars for a rescue.
