GREAT ADVICE Brad. I'm 60yrs old & play 3hr gigs straight through. The style I play is fusion/flamenco, blues, funk, Latin jazz/fusion, & Rock, mostly originals, but the covers I play I'll do the vocal melody on the guitar (because I'm an instrumentalist). So I do shred, but I pace myself with more melodic playing (shredding too much doesn't work for dinner music, LOL). Plus, I try to incorporate dynamics in my phrasing & it all works, gig a lot of gigs because of it. I've been playing now for almost 50yrs. ( I can't believe it, LOL) & one thing I've learned is that there's something for everyone out there. Keep On Inspiring Brother, Rock On & God Bless.
A very well known musician once said in an interview in guitar for the practicing musician. Want to learn to play lead. Play the vocals on guitar. I couldn't understand the fretboard or play lead. 3 years on bass in an originals band, the while at home. Doing just what niel schonn said in that interview I was finally able to play lead guitar and my ear got so much better I understood music theory finally. The rest is history... My history and it not what I wanted it to he but good enough.
Man, that intro solo was extremely tasty and your timing is deep. This is how I play (envisioned in my mind, but actually nowhere close). Keep killing it, man!
I’m glad to see that you can still “bring it”. When I “bring it”, it might arrive at the end of the song. I m not good enough to shred. But, I hear you about being competitive when playing. I just can’t compete. My best bet is to set my guitar on fire or swing it at the bass player. Lol😂
Brad if you would change to Ryze or Bubs mushroom ☕ It would give you ALL day energy and great mind focas and idea. Ive been on it 90 days and its incredible. Lions Mane, Turkey Tail with NO harmful nothing. All organic. Please try it, both you and the wife will definitely love it.
One good thing about wearing Bluetooth hearing aids, listening to the Brad channel at work and nobody knows. Anyone here suffering from hearing loss and tinnitus? I swear it’s from all those years of loud drummers
I do but. Oddly I can still run sound and. Make a band sound perfect.. But what I notice is the ears. What they hear changes a little about 3 songs in they get better. The ears and the band and the sound.
Great tips. Was Scott Henderson an instructor when you were at GIT? I think mentioned something similar to this concept in one of his instructional videos.
Diggin' your improv chops bro; that was killer. The dorian over the four chord and the altered dominant lines were cookin'. Your double time feel is awesome, very inspiring! Love your guitar tone on the gig. What amp and pedal were you using? 😎👏👍
I need to refresh them, but I typically at least have all the 7 scale positions memorized. What I don't know is what modes to use over certain chords, etc...I've always been convicted of my lack of jazz skills especially since I went through grade school as a serious jazz sax player
When I think it I mess up when I feel it it comes out smooth. I can barely read music and tab isn't much help. I learn by ear and feel. But when I hit a tough spot I'll check a tab cause I know I'm close it just doesn't sound right.
Your daughter is precious! And your first solo was very tasty. However, I’m not sure the shredding was quite appropriate for that tune, which was basically a swing shuffle. It’s cool to show off the chops a bit…I get it. But sometimes you gotta play the tune if you know what I mean. Restraint isn’t always easy. That said, you show a great range of creativity.
Disagree with you, TJSMITH... over the course of an hour dinner set, it's appropriate at times to throw something in that might quietly raise a few sets of eyebrows that say hey that guy's pretty effing good.. to take notice of what's happening up there, even during a cocktail / dinner set. It's not like he's breakinto into eruption or metal solo
@@TomDavisVideo Thanks Tom, yeah it is a swing blues and I'm just taking it to the Jazz level....We were getting alot of raised eyebrows that night for that very thing and people were really digging it. It's Nashville so people expect you to play...
Did a gig in stillwater okla. In a dive. Was standing directly in front of the drummer. On of the loudest pounding fools I ever worked with. They called me a month later to do the gig again, I said HELL NO.
Your video is very beautiful. I like it a lot. I have been trying to talk to you for a long time. I am waiting for your response. Please give me a chance to talk to you.❣
I do not believe that 'shredding' is appropriate to at least a trad approach to the blues.players can experiment, but you Must excercise some respect for the genre.
It's a bit of a click bait title I admit but I have complete respect for the blues and what I am playing here is not shredding but double time swing which is perfectly accepted in the genre.

Good video I can relate on the age I’m 64 I gotta wonder where the stones ,Neil y , Dylan ,Willie N get that energy must be that live crowd !

Lol. Love the look on the drummers face! Priceless!

I may just look into that....
Blues is tricky, it can be simple but mixing major and minor sounds can get baffling. So many possibilities.
It is tricky and so many different levels to what you can do with it.
I have that same silver burst as what you’re playing in the clip. I’m a strat but I love that guitar. Play it often. Plus has the split coils.
Very cool!
One good thing about wearing Bluetooth hearing aids, listening to the Brad channel at work and nobody knows. Anyone here suffering from hearing loss and tinnitus? I swear it’s from all those years of loud drummers
