Nice old Lister. You should use the build-in start aid. The little handle used for stopping can be pulled out and put in vertical position. That is the starting position that will add extra diesel. When the engine is started you must put the handle horizontally. That way it starts in almost all conditions without adding engine oil in the intake.
There's only one tank, the fuel. The cup he used the pump can on is the primer, 100cc or so of oil that gets forced into the intake to promote cold starting. It pokes out of the cooling air ductwork, which kind of resembles a tank. The cap at the very top is the oil cap, in the valve cover pan. The mushroom looking thing next to the fuel tank is an oil bath air filter. Pretty much all the tank resembling parts I can think of, lol
That container is meant for coldstarts. When you fill it with oil and push the plunger back in oil wil be pushed into the intake. That way the engine will start more easily.
Don't rap your thumb round the starting handle like that some engines if they kick backwards will brake your thumb instead rap your thumb the same way as your fingers it might sound petty but it will save your thumb .
That handle works like a ratchet, it has a spring loaded pin that allows rotation in only one direction so if the engine kicks back the movement is not transmitted to the handle. At 1:48 you will see the engine already started and the handle is still on the shaft yet the engine is not turning the shaft, the ratchet action prevents that just as it will not turn the shaft if it should kicks back.
Yes what happens is because you already have the ratched engaged whilst cranking to start when it kicks back it's already engaged and it kicks back through the handle and injure"s you

I’ve got the same engine and it’s much quieter. I think that babies got a nasty knock.
Andy..i was wondering about that...i thought it would get quieter as it heated up..what was it used for ?
I don`t know what it was used for
Llama la atención lo fácil que es hacerlo funcionar y darle mantenimiento
Your camera is drunk or seasick or something.
This is due to RUclips shitty editor anti hands shaking effect. It distorts the image severely.
I laughed with all my heart
that is a really lovely diesel
Cranked one of these a few times!, a sound you know anywhere!
What's in the other tank?not the diesel tank

helpful hint, keep your thumb next to your index finger, if you don't and it kicks back (which it will) it will break your thumb.

@@MrGoogelaar Speaking from experience, they still bite, those ratchets aren't completely reliable.

That's how you break a finger while starting an engine
loopt netjes. integenstelling tot de deutz en yanmar.
I don’t like how he started it look at his Hand his thumb shouldn’t be behind the starting handle but it is a good engine ( I love lister’s)
does anybody know if a Lister LR1 can be used as a small boat engine?
wouldnt be worth the weight
They have been for many years. Lots of long boats had em.
On narrowboats you usually found the 2+ cylinder variants in use on boats, but there's lots of little boats with singles on.
grapje mooi gefilmt
Lo compro dónde sé encuentra
Wats up??

Heb je misschien een foto voor me van de sticker op het klepdeksel?
