I can't help but feel sorry for that rat. Rats are beautiful and very intelligent animals. It's wrong to live feed if you can get away with doing frozen. Your snake has to eat but putting a live rat in there with no place to run and a scary creature in there trying to eat it seems horrible. It would be like putting a human in a lion cage. I love all kinds of animals and of course snakes need to eat but not only are you being sure your snake is getting better quality food when they get frozen it also stops the total panic that must be in the rat's head when it find's it's self trapped like that. I don't want you to think I am against snakes or snake owners im just trying to imagine things from the rat's point of view. I feel bad for it that the pet store owners didn't even give it a second thought to take care of it while it was alive.....all living things deserve respect and care. I wouldn't go back to that place.
Apparently the rat wasn't frozen for 36 hours so the bugs survived. They put the live rat in a box and into the freezer overnight but it was too big it didn't freeze it chewed through the box. So they hit it on the head and put it back in the freezer is what I was told.
That is so sad! Obviously the pet store was not taking good care of those rats. Now, I happen to like furry creatures rather than snakes....but for the sake of this conversation it does not matter. 1. If you are buying the rats as food for you snake, your snake deserves healthy safe food. 2. Some people buy feeder rats as pets. I know I have and every rat i got from one particular store died with in a few weeks of getting them. I tried getting a bird from the same place and the same thing happened. Pet stores have to have respect for life. That rat must have lived it's life in disgusting conditions and it isn't right.
I didn't mention the name because I hate to put a bad name on somebody's business and id hate to get sued or something but I've had more than one really bad experience with this store ..I mean I've seen some bad shit go down there with an employee.. but the worst was when I contacted the OWNER of the store about this rat ..I won't say the name but ill say there are only 2 stores that sell pets on the "WEST" side of Albuquerque and im NOT talking about Pet Smart . Its a small mom and pops store off of Coors not far from a Walgreens and a Wendy's. If you live in ABQ you will be able to figure it out based off of that info ..
Rat lice. They are horrible, awful things to get rid of! They are much tinier than human lice. I don’t believe they would be a problem for non-rodents though. I had to soak my rats in vegetable oil and shampoo them and totally sanitize their cage. Ours came from a pet store “rescue “.
whatsup butter cup I understand completely where your coming from and absolutely im done woth this pet store for many reasons and your right this rat did deserve better care during its life but even besides that ..there are better more humane ways to kill the rats rather than putting a live rat in tje freezer and letting just it freeze to death which is the method this pet store utilizes ..I could go on all day about the reasons this pet store is just bad all the way around

What happened to poor rat’s face? PS: freezing will kill everything, you have to freeze it for over 36 hours. That’s how they treat Sushi.

Normally when there is blood, the rat was killed with blunt force, Unlike CO2 or dislocation.

I use a Anti-Parasite for my rats- I recommend trying that. Soooooooo much easier then all of the other stuff lol
