Today those bunkers are a tourists attraction. Many of them still exist in private backyards as storage units!
Hoxha definitely had some charisma to him in the way he presented himself and the way he spoke(almost like a caring father to his children).
Also the video doesn't explain the paranoia of Enver Hoxha towards all religions. Since 1967 all religious practices were banned and religious institutions closed.
Albania has the distinction of being the first atheist state.

That’s what I heard. I heard that Enver Hoxha ordered the closing of all churches and mosques in Albania. Other communist countries might’ve oppressed Christians, but Albania just took it to the next level.

my dad happened to be one of the first US military liason officers post communism in Albania. Those bunkers were everywhere.

In fairness, Albania is investing huge sums of money (European funds, Italian investments etc) and is progressing rapidly. Turism is beginning to boom and there's an awful lot of construction works going on in Tirana.

They still had the misfortune to fall prey to one of the most obvious ponzi schemes in history. My dad remembers in a hospital there a person taking a knife and opening a pillow with lots of dried blood coming out. This despite how white the pillow was on the outside.
Yea life here in Albania has gotten better. Ofcourse low wages and other social problems are still present, but it has improved drastically.
When I had foot surgery last year, my roommate was an 82-year-old man from Lushnjë Albania. He moved to the US in the 70's. He could speak English but chose to speak Albanian as he didn't speak in full sentences in English. And his translator that the hospital had is also from Albania. He absolutely hated Hoxha/ The Translator was too young, at the time and her family came to the US right after Hoxha died. I learned more about Albania from the man than I did from anyone else. But I didn't dare ask him anything about the Albanian mafia, because well, you never ask an Albanian about their mafia.
Back during the Cold War, I listened to a LOT of Short Wave radio. “Radio Tirana “ was one of the worst for Propaganda❗️
They were so bad, that they made Radio Moscow World Service, and Radio Havana seem WEAK.
Their rhetoric was off the charts.

I had a manager from Albania years ago, she grew up through the last decade before the overthrow of that government. She was so happy to come to America even though she and her family had to struggle to make it.
I'm wondering if you'd be interested in an alternate history show. They made a TV show based on Fallout series. In that universe the history diverged from ours after WWII. We ending up going to war with China and everyone was nuked.
