For people saying that this isn't a good version yada yada yada, they're doing the Santa Fe Prologue version, which is the first song sung in the Broadway musical where the scene opens up with Jack and Crutchie. So in this version, Jack is singing to Crutchie.
Did you notice the glitch around the 10 second mark? What was that? I love this version of this song; it's probably my favorite of all the clips I've seen but that glitch- I'm glad it happened early in the video because it would've ruined the whole ambiance of the song if it had come any later and that would've made me crazy 😠 angry versus super heart melting zazazooey like it does 😈.
Alan Menken is soooooooooo good. he has been creating songs for so long for us to enjoy. he did both movie and Broadway versions of Newsies along with a ton more stuff we all know. He's the true talent behind all this.
Ok I'm kinda kicking myself for getting into newsies only a month ago don't know why it took me this long to realise how amazing this soundtrack is 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻😍😍😍😍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🗞🗞🗞🗞 #fansie #newsiesforlife
Ellie-May Brown I've watched the original movie 4 times in theaters back in 92. I'm STILL just in love with Newsies as i was back then. the broadway version is awesome too.
Ellie-May Brown i saw the limited time showing of the disney's production of newsies at the theatre and just hearing the soundtrack without context is what turned me away but now i'm obsessed and it kills my heart to hear this
This has me in tears each and every time I hear it. The music and lyrics are a match made in heaven that hit you straight in the heart. Just beautiful.
The song is sung twice in the show- this is an introduction to Jack's character, but he sings it again later, and the lyrics are much closer to the movie. Not exact, as the story's different in the musical, but pretty close.
Ok! I don't think I've ever heard such a more moving song in a long, long time! Going to see this in October and really hope Jeremy is still playing Jack! This really is quite powerful music - it bought me to tears!
This is the song I listen to when I want to calm down, it's so beautiful and Jeremy's voice distracts me from whatever I was thinking about, even for just a moment.
Sometimes he's wearing the headphones and sometimes he's not.. Haha. So incredible. I love how the pianist does the perfect sign at the end- because it really is :D
Folks, we finally got our headline "Newsies Crushed as Bulls Attack" Crutchie's calling me Dumb crip's just too damn slow Guys are fightin', bleedin', fallin' Thanks to good ole' Captain Jack Captain Jack just wants to close his eyes and go! Let me go Far away Somewhere they won't ever find me, and tomorrow won't remind me of today And the city's finally sleepin' And the moon looks old and grey I get on a train that's bound for Santa Fe And I'm gone And I'm done No more running. No more lying No more fat old man denying me my pay Just a moon so big and yellow, it turns night right into day Dreams come true. Yeah they do. In Santa Fe Where does it say you gotta live and die here? Where does it say a guy can't catch a break? Why should you only take what you're given? Why should you spend your whole life living trapped where there ain't no future Even at 17! Breaking your back for someone else's sake! If the life don't seem to suit you, how about a change of scene? Far from the lousy headlines, and the deadlines in between Santa Fe, my old friend I can't spend my whole life dreaming Though I know that's all I seem inclined to do I ain't getting any younger And I wanna start brand new I need space. And fresh air Let 'em laugh in my face. I don't care Save my place, I'll be there Just be real is all I'm asking Not some painting in my head Cause I'm dead if I can't count on you today I got nothing if I ain't got Santa Fe
Sooo sad Jeremy Jordan is leaving Newsies! He has a truly amazing voice that is perfect for Broadway. Lucky I saw him in the role already! Hope things work out for him in SMASH but also hope he makes it back to the stage
So that's what they call a family Mother daughter father son Guess that everything you heard about is true So you aint got any family Who said you needed one Aint ya glad nobody's waiting up for you When I dream on my own I'm alone but I aint lonely For a dreamer nights the only time a day When the city's finally sleeping and my thoughts begin to stray And I'm on the train that's bound for Santa Fe And I'm free like the wind Like I'm gunna live forever Its a feeling time can never take away Al
not like anyone's gonna see this on a nearly 10 year old video, but i like to vent dump so screw you i'm in 8th grade. this is my last year in middle school (yuck, i know) and it's one day left, not even, until we have our first performance of this show. it's the most ambitious project that our school has done, let alone in the district, maybe the state. i was the student director and going through so much throughout the production of the show (lot of people quitting, our choreographer screwed up and didn't have enough time, also went through a breakup that was so complicated that i'd rather not get into) and at the start of the last week of practices, they had me crying, but at the end of that week, they had me crying, if you catch my drift. this show has been the only thing keeping me together. we had our last practice yesterday afternoon and we all went out together singing this. it still hasn't hit me that it was the last practice until right now. i'm here scouring the internet for all the newsies content i can and these kids that i've been directing for the past 3-4 months have been the most wonderful and unique cast we've taken the risk on. we were betting for a few kids to come back and we initally had them casted, but when we discovered they passed on it to do sports or just didn't do it at all, we had to take risks on people who were essentially nobodies. and now, i couldn't imagine anyone else in those roles. seeing the decorations in the cafeteria when i walk in for lunch, especially with my mental state falling apart for that week, made me feel like crying. these practices were where i could truly get away from that and get to what i loved most. i may not be the best at acting, but i sure as hell tried my hardest to adopt the narcisistic personality of pulitzer. i love being able to yell at people jokingly and have them be able to yell back at me. it feels so amazing to be at this point. not much else to put here, but i wanted to say something even if nobody cares
The piano chords are similar to "Somewhere That's Green," from "Little Shop of Horrors." Menken wrote both. And they are both, "I want" songs. Both Jack and Audrey dream of leaving a gritty urban environment for a better life.
The part when he sings “and they went and made a city outta clay” makes my heart melt every time ❤️❤️❤️
Yes!!
It's been two years, and I can STILL say "same."
jeremy's voice is just so gorgeous and AAAAAAAAAAAA
I KNOW RIGHT? AAAAAAAAAAAA

I know almost for certain that while he played the piano the whole time, Alan was hearing the whole orchestra in his head. Crazy talented man.
the way he says "no way" just touches me right in the heart. So beautiful.
Jeremy Jordan IS THE SHOW
HIS SMILE AT "OUTTA CLAY"❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
my heart can’t handle this anymore🥺
and at 1:44 when he says no way❤️🥺❤️😭❤️🥹❤️
The rhyme scheme in every Newsies song never ceases to amaze me. They are all perfectly written and composed. One of the best soundtracks ever made.
I can't deal with how gorgeous he is and how gorgeous his voice is. Swoon. :-)
Alan Menken is a genius, and Jeremy’s interpretation of his work is beautiful
I am a mess...I cried at him singing “city”...and at his smile after “no way” I am crazy.
I literally just texted my friend,”I AM PHYSICALLY NOT OK!!”
Both of these lyrics get me too. Perfection!
STOOOP he’s too perfect for this world
Ah, his voice is just phenomenal. No wonder my boys stop whatever they are doing to listen to him sing. His voice soothes my babies like no other.

The song is sung twice in the show- this is an introduction to Jack's character, but he sings it again later, and the lyrics are much closer to the movie. Not exact, as the story's different in the musical, but pretty close.

Folks, we finally got our headline
"Newsies Crushed as Bulls Attack"
Crutchie's calling me
Dumb crip's just too damn slow
Guys are fightin', bleedin', fallin'
Thanks to good ole' Captain Jack
Captain Jack just wants to close his eyes and go!
Let me go

So that's what they call a family
Mother daughter father son
Guess that everything you heard about is true
So you aint got any family

Aint ya glad nobody's waiting up for you
When I dream on my own
I'm alone but I aint lonely
For a dreamer nights the only time a day
When the city's finally sleeping and my thoughts begin to stray
And I'm on the train that's bound for Santa Fe
And I'm free like the wind
Like I'm gunna live forever
Its a feeling time can never take away
