Former department store buyer's assistant here: The reason behind seasonal decoration creep is actually pretty simple - every store wants to get the biggest cut of that sweet, sweet holiday profit, and the best way to do that is to put out their stuff first. Then of course other stores feel obligated to put *their* stuff out earlier, and it becomes a vicious circle.
@@skyydancer67 your local stores wait until November for Christmas hahaha there is stuff for Christmas out before Halloween here granted not long before Halloween but it will be here this month and around Christmas the Valentine's Day stuff goes out it's f****** ridiculous
That store I worked in had a small amount of Christmas stuff all year. Starting in July the section got a little bigger, until just after Hallowe'en, when it almost took over the store, aside from a small section for Thanksgiving.
I think more appreciation needs to go to Caleb's excellent comedic timing regarding his editing skills. Thank you Caleb it cracked me up every time the gif of Spongebob showed up on screen.
Recommendation: for your 30th Birthday month, make is the Month of Katie & all of the soaps are inspired by Katie’s favorite things (book, movie, colors & scents, her immediate…)! One could also be inspired by where she wants to travel to or a future dream she has for herself!❤
You know, I think this soap looks incredible when it's changed, matured and gone darker. It looks rather sophisticated when it's matured. I bet it smells like heaven too! God bless you and all those that you love, now and always.
I used to work in a craft store ... they always run ahead with seasonal stuff. Many of those things are craft materials. Just like Katie needs to make soap early, crafters need time to make their holiday things. If you didn't sell red and green yarn until November, people wouldn't get Christmas scarves until February.
Crafting fairs with materials for professionals where I live were (pre-pandemic) early March for Easter and mid October for Christmas. I think going back to July is a bit much though.
This is true but as a regular crafter I tend to buy all of my craft stuff at the end of the season when I goes on sale and hoard it until I need it. I typically start crocheting Christmas projects in the summer. But I do understand the concept of why the do it.
Craft stores always run early so that there’s time to make the crafts ahead of the season. I remember as a kid being THRILLED when the fall pattern books would be put out with all the new Halloween costume patterns. My mom sewed all our costumes growing up and I was already anxious to look and pick out what she’d make me that year.
Caleb, I don't think you get enough "props" for your editing skills. Homeboy, you are sharp. Absolutely incredible video, as always. 💙💜💛💚🧡 (Katie, I never miss Great Pumpkin/Charlie Brown.)🎃😀
I told my 4 year old daughter in July that my baby is due right after Halloween and she'd start seeing Halloween stuff closer to that time (because she'd ask me every day). She's been seeing Halloween stuff since mid August and that didn't help her anticipation 😐 the pumpkins themselves are better indication.
Katie you and you alone are the reason I started making soap and other things. After I started soap making I expanded my craft into resin and concrete and would love to get into wood turning. But I got a small business going making soap and now my other craft projects. Its definitely nothing big but it helps us. And I've always been a stay at home mom and I have always wanted to do something. But I didn't want to leave my kids. And every since I started making soap and stuff I didn't have to leave my kids. They go to craft shows with me and I think they attract more attention to my tent more than my projects do. LOL! But they love it. And the youngest 2 started school this year and I have so much more free time. So I'm about to start posting on RUclips more. I had to stop a bit because we had to move and the new place needed a little TLC and we finally got it done. Well most of it. But thank you Katie for giving me enough courage to get up and actually try it. I kept one of my 1st bars that I cut. And still have it. It's been 2 yrs and still looks like I just made it. And I learned everything I know from you and doing some of my own research of course. But I just wanted to say thank you so much. I love watching you and your attitude every time you make a video. Its totally makes my day. And your kids a just beautiful!!! I love when you bring them on with you.
The Taco Bell soap video just got recommended to me and I just remember how freaking happy you were about it. I loved that video. If you're ever randomly to inspired to make personal batches for you or you family like that again, I just want you to know I'm here for it. 😝
27 seconds in and I had to pause the video and immediately go grab the tea & novels. I wanted it so so so bad last year and missed it!! Phew I got 2!! I’m so excited.
I love the design Katie! The weirdest pumpkin spiced flavored thing I've seen are dog biscuits. My dogs love them! I also give pumpkin spice horse treats to my llamas and they love them too. Well... I have one picky eater who doesn't like treats but he likes apple ones.
I purchased this soap for my sister and it was her favorite soap ever! Thank you for remaking it so I can surprise her with it again. Perfect stocking stuffer!
Im so excited about Tea and Novels being in this launch!!! I was literally thinking about that soap this morning in the shower- it was my first RS soap and still my favorite!
i actually really like how the ""discoloration"" makes it look really chocolatey. And the marbling between that and the creamy yellow reminds me of chocolate cheesecake 😋
I got tea and novels and the one she's making in the video last year and it was such a nice pick me up. It was a year from my traumatic birth (were both fine now) and it was so nice to look forward to those and they did not disappoint.
Honestly I LOVE the discoloration better. It looks so pretty. Also the weirdest pumpkin spice thing I’ve seen was pumpkin spice chili dogs 🥴 I did not eat one lol.
Love the collection! I think three weirdest pumpkin spice thing I've ever seen is pumpkin spice cat litter. I literally started laughing in the middle of the store. 😜
Fall scents are my favorite! Can’t wait to buy. QOTD: pumpkin spice ramen is probably the strangest. Also, a local food truck makes pumpkin spice funnel cakes and they are wonderful!
Last autumn scent I adored was Trick or Treat, you used it for the Maleficent soap a few years back. It smelled like Halloween night, which I didn't think was possible, and I loved it immediately and still do, even after I long used up that soap.

I think that it is important to be nostalgic and remember the past, but I feel it is more important to grow with the times and never to say that "you are too old to learn/change" But yes, Christmas shopping in September is RIDICULOUS!!!
Craft stores absolutely MUST sell months before the holiday. Many people buy those crafts to make gifts which take a lot of time. Others are making for craft shows and sales. Many sell at multiple craft shows and they have to start making several months ahead to have enough for all the shows.
Agreed! I don’t want to think about Christmas until about Thanksgiving time, and being just abit older than your mother, I remember when christmas came out around black friday, its ridiculous! Great vid!🥰
I love this season. I lived in California for the past 5 years and just moved back to New England. I can't wait to go apple picking and enjoy the fall weather!
As someone who worked traditional retail it was to sell things at regular price early and then once the sales start we were still in the season to move product. Trying to sell seasonal items a month or two late means it sits around forever, sells for a loss or we have to send it back which costs more money in shipping.
My two favorite things put together in a soap Coffee and pumpkin. I just love the soap Katie, keep up the good work. (P.S. My favorite treat to eat with coffee is Pumpkin Bread.)
Pumpkin Spice scented SOCKS! There used to be this novelty sock store in my mall that sold all kind of weird socks that I loved so much. And they would have single socks that you could mix or match. One of the socks they sold were SCENTED SOCKS. And when fall came around pumpkin spice scented socks was one of the things you could buy.
My autumnal plans are to harvest my garden (yesterday), process my mint for tea (today), and plant carrots and beats (hopefully today). We're also going to go to the pumpkin patch at some point. Things in my garden this year: beans, 3 kinds of mint, zucchini, cantaloupe, watermellon, and carrots.
I remember when Christmas decorations didn't go on sale until the day after Thanksgiving! Tree sales started on Thanksgiving, but if you needed decorations, you waited until the next day. I just bought some pumpkin spice cream cheese... haven't tried it yet, but it's in the fridge!
I am with you on holiday stuff coming out too early! I like enjoying thing when they actually come around. As for the weirdest pumpkin thing ever is car oil
I recently bought Pumpkin spice fruit leather from Aldi, and emphasis on the SPICE! My two year old couldn't handle it, but I absolutely love the stuff! It tastes like the scent of a super strong candle!
We were able to go kayaking on the lake today. The leaves were changing, the water was freezing but the sun was beautiful and we had a good couple of hours before the rain came in! Hope you did something nice for you too, Katie!!
There's a farm by my house that does a corn maze and pumpkin picking every year. I missed a few years because I was studying out of state but now I'm much closer to home I'm trying to make the trip. We'll see if my current curriculum allows me a weekend to go home. I saw some Christmas trees in Michael's at the end of August and was shook. I'm a Christmas person but that's way too early! Anyway, I love this soap!!! It's so pretty!!!
Omggg yesss another video from Katie!! Believe me I wish I would take a photoshoot with your background set-up lol so colorful!! Happy spooky month btw!! Tysm for another video!!!
I checked the email for next month's theme. Not things I'm into, but I have no doubt that a lot of folks are going to be absolutely shrieking in glee when the first video of the new collection comes out.
that first layer looked so much like chocolate......yum! pumpkin flavour not really much of a thing in UK, but i buy the tiney ones cut them in half smear them in butter and ground corriander seed and bake till really soft, not many people seem to eat them
I currently work at as an assistant manager at a craft store and aside from the many reasons others have listed, having the items out earlier and earlier is also helpful to the employees. Where I work, the sales for our seasonal items dwarf our other departments year round and have been growing since 2020, so corporate increases the volume of seasonal items for us more and more each year. If we started putting Christmas out later than June/July we would all likely be working open to close 7 days a week and still be buried in it and other projects that need done to maintain the other departments. As others have said it all boils down to how much money can be made at the end of the day, but the earlier start time also helps the craft store employees to have a work/life balance. I completely agree, it rushes everyone and I rarely know which way is up when it comes to what time of the year it is, but it helps us keep up with the demands of corporate and the customers while still being able to have time off.
Just came across your channel and love it. I feel that when one starts to think and feel just how it was when they were a child then for me it is a sign of one growing in age. I feel and see things change so very fast now and wish to have it back to when I was growing up. The feeling of care free and no need to worry about bad things or how expensive things have gotten. When I was growing up in Canada it was a rule or respect that no Christmas anything until after Remembrance Day. Now for me there is no respect as Christmas stuff is already out and for sale in August or in some places end of July.
Here's an idea: go watch your local high school marching band perform in a competition! October is chock FULL of marching band competitions; it's our busy season. These shows are very entertaining, and the kids really appreciate having a good crowd to cheer them on! Yes, I'm speaking as a band mom, but these are kid-friendly events and I can't imagine fall without band competitions now! ;)
Thanks for the video - the soap is wonderful! Also, loved how this somewhat turned into a video diary, since I'm 28 as well and it got me thinking nostalgically about what has changed in the past years. More due to climate change - when I was a kid in winter we used to have so much snow... Now it's nonexistent some years... 🥺 But anyway, definitely keep the good work - warm wishes from over the ocean. 😊
I love the subtle changes this design goes through every year! I think the weirdest pumpkin spice scented thing I've seen is one of those natural deodorants someone was selling at a craft fair. Pumpkin spice perfume I get, but deodorant? Not so much.
Ha! That's hilarious! My mom sent me a picture of a sign saying "Pumpkin Spice Breakpads!" If they hadn't been joking, then I would say that was the weirdest!
My dad passed away last Tuesday. I've been on autopilot watching almost all your videos and it helps, it makes me so calm. It gives me time to grieve and think. And also time to smile. Thank you. Its spring here but actually summer heat, very very hot.but my vegetable garden is growing nicely. I see our health store has a pumpkin spice smoothie. I tried it. Nein! Not good!
Thank you for your recipes and help , you have taught me how to make cp soap and I’m loving learning, please tell me is your frosting the same recipe if it’s different can you help me with that please x
Yes, the department stores are rushing the seasons. BUT, it makes sense for craft stores to start their seasons early. Some of the holiday craft projects (I'm thinking needlework) might take a couple of months to complete before the actual holiday. I worked at one, and our crafters were always on the lookout for supplies about 2 months ahead of time, so they could get started on their decorations and gifts.
It’s the same in the UK too!! Every year it feels like the Christmas cards and decorations are being put out earlier and earlier - quite a few places already had them out before Halloween decorations!!! 😭
I remember last fall, I saw a pumpkin spice cheese! Still kind of wish I got it then. (Btw, Love the finished soap! Makes me think of latte art after discoloration. )

I think the weirdest pumpkin spice scented thing I've seen is one of those natural deodorants someone was selling at a craft fair. Pumpkin spice perfume I get, but deodorant? Not so much.
I would totally buy pumpkin spice deodorant 😅
Ha! That's hilarious! My mom sent me a picture of a sign saying "Pumpkin Spice Breakpads!" If they hadn't been joking, then I would say that was the weirdest!
@@caitlinhanson8631 I love that for you!
I love the colors before the change. I would love to have one in unscented or a different sent.
@4:31 it looks just like brownie batter and made me so hungry!
I tried it. Nein! Not good!
I’m sorry for your loss ❤ Katie has helped me through many hard days & I hope you find peace more easily as time goes on 🤞🏻
@@jaynedavis3388 thank you so much.
It'd be cool to see a time lapse of a discoloration 😄
Lovely color choices- would love to see them with a scent that doesn’t discolor!
Thank you for your recipes and help , you have taught me how to make cp soap and I’m loving learning, please tell me is your frosting the same recipe if it’s different can you help me with that please x
Lovely soap! A mica line gold or bronze would top it off also!
I saw pumpkin spice scented docks one year. I'm guessing they were like those aloe vera infused socks maybe?
I made pumpkin spice shampoo and conditioner bars for fall this year! 😁
I went to buy a swimming costume in July - none available, just autumn jumpers and winter coats. Maddening!
Omg! The squeaky boots reference! I laughed so hard!😂😂
Makes me think of latte art after discoloration. )
