I saw a K-28 in the thumbnail so I clicked. :D Edit: Guess I'm flying to Toronto to punch you. :P The Rio Grande had 4 classes of K's - the K-27, K-28, K-36, and K-37. 491, my babe, is a K-37. That model in scrap mechanic of the K-28 is legitimately insanity. Props to the creator!
many thanks, and yes, you are right, building this locomotive was insane, I spent many hours looking at photos and videos of the k-28 in order to rebuild it in scrap mechanic as faithfully as possible (apart from the extra counterweights on all the wheels which for me is nicer to look at as well as being useful as a second attachment to the wheel, important for the strange physics of S.M.); among the next trains that I am planning to build there could also be a small locomotive that I saw in one of your videos, capable of climbing mountains with a simple gear that hooks onto teeth in the middle of the rails; If I ever get around to building it, there's a good chance it will end up in a KAN video
In case anyone hasn’t stated it already, the 473 is a D&RGW K-28 and is located at the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge in Durango, Colorado. The one that Hyce runs at the Colorado Railroad Museum is Denver and Rio Grande Western 491, a K-37. The biggest class of 2-8-2 that the Grande produced.
hello, the creator of the del Rio Grande k28 here, thanks for choosing it for the video and I'm happy that you liked it, I'm amazed that it worked in physics 7 because the walshaerts v.g.s. and built to work best in pH 4/5; regarding the control of the walshaerts system, I tried to make it as realistic as possible to how the locomotives actually work, it has 3 speeds explained in more detail in the description, in short, for the first you press 2 which is for forward, then 1 to activate the pistons, for the second you press 2 again to set the second speed, then for the third it is a bit buggy, by pressing 3 you can still get a small boost in speed but it could happen that the train stops and starts to go in reverse, to go in reverse do the same movements but reversing 2 and 3.
4:38 for those wondering its the pigs plane from the movie Porco Rosco from Studio Ghibli, I highly recomend watching it was a quite the fantastic movie. And yes its set in Italy so that is infact the italian flag!
Sea Plane, red, italian flag colors for reference, "pig" edition. Poor kAN doesn't have the proper culture to know what this was until others told him. Accurate take off.
hi, I'm the creator of the rgb strip. Each light cell has 18 warehouse lights, the cones of these lights can mix thus allowing it to display many colors with fewer lights.
13:52 The clutch explains it; that's what makes it like a ratchet. The piston moves while the clutch transfers rotational motion and moves the other way while the clutch is disengaged; then, it's quite easy to control which part of the phase the clutch engages for, allowing forward and reverse. (I presume those double bearing clutches are basically always slipping while engaged because of Scrap Mechanic's Physics.)
11:13 Slight shame that kAN didn't plug the pressure engine into the Dyno. Would have been interesting to compare it against a conventional piston engine.
It would have kept on spinning if he had decided to delete the gas engine like it said to do in the description. That one makes close to 2000 horsepower.
However, because the Driveshaft is on one side, the Problem that the Driveshaft will change in Length depending on the Curve it's on appears. Additionally, over the Length of the Axle, some Torque will "disappear"
I've said it once, I'll say it a thousand times. As weird as the shay is for being offset like that, you can work on it/fix it anywhere without having to drag it over a pit.
Thanks for featuring my plane kAN!!!! I'm so excited to see one of my builds on a channel I've been watching for so long :) (P.S the bubble block is exactly as you see it, the glitched bubble block is surprisingly heavy)
Hyce has K-37 No. 491 at the museum. K-28 No.s 473, 476, and 478 are on the Durango & Silverton. 470-472, 474-475, 477, and 479 were taken by the government to run in Alaska and Canada in WWII, and were scrapped instead of honoring the return and were not even paid for, so it screwed the D&RGW over pretty badly. They’re known as the “Sport Models”, the 28s, because they handled so well-like a sports car vs a sedan/saloon car-the K-27s had 20 total, but only 463 and 464 still exist and were called “Mud Hens” for the “waddled” down the tracks in the early years. The 28s were a massive improvement from the start rather than a conversion like the K-27s had.
Shay's were developed for the Logging industry which normal locomotives couldn't get up those massive hills. There was also a prototype engine that untilized regular logs as rails. It didn't go far from that but Shay's and their geared down wheels allowed the trains to pull massive loads to and from logging camps
Typically seaplanes always have a hard time taking off irl aswell because of all the friction. Btw the plane’s from Porco Rosso, an underrated Studio Ghibli movie, 100% recommended.
the engine at the colorado railroad museum is a D&rgw 491 which is a K-37. the D&rgw 473, the K-28 in this video is operated by the durango and silverton. also just a dumb little nit pick. the counterweights are wrong. but beyond that its really really cool.
good eye, yes, there are six counterweights that shouldn't be there, there are two reasons why I put them, one aesthetic and one technical, the aesthetic one is because it was nicer to see for me, while the technical one is that each wheel is connected externally with two pistons to the counterweights, horizontally and I couldn't put a single piston in the center because the bearing was already there
As a child i played on a Baureihe 80 regularly. It was decommissioned and parked in the back of a switchyard where we could sneak in as children and play on. It was torched apart years later.
The 4 cylinder looks like a bigger version of an air compressor on a semi truck but with 4 cylinders, or it looks like the new concept idea of a new 2 stroke engine where it works with intake stroke, compression stroke, combustion, then exhaust with each cylinder doing one job
1:44 unfolded onion box can solve that and I actually made a simulator doesn’t explode however I figured that part would just be annoying because it actually fits on the tracks and you can pull stuff with it
the water thing where it feels like you are stuck and cant pull out is realistic, water vehicles have a suction type deal when they are exiting the water
All you need to do to get the plane to take off from the water is to put flaps on the front set of wings to get more force downward that’ll get you out of the water
The flying boat is fictional prototype of italian Savoia s-21 from anime movie I cant remember name for. It does closely resemble the real SIAI S.21, and more closely resembles the Macchi M.33

They originally were built literally from flat bed railcars and it worked very well and was pretty reliable. Shame on you! However all these creations are awesome and I loved watching you video. For the Pressure Engine, you need to dyno us to see how much power it makes. Then since it uses a gas engine, dyno just the gas engine and subtract its power o see how much power the glitch adds. EDIT: may as well dyno the ratchet engine too.
What happened to the piston engine episodes and you could maybe try building a compact engine that has high performance and then making it look more like a real engine and then maybe putting it on a car or train or whatever

About the pressure engines. I'm pretty sure that pressure engine was constructed just to maximize power per piston, which is why it is so big (it has 800hp/piston I think, while most regular engines have 25-30hp/piston). However, it does not need to be that big; I was able to make a regular-sized B8 (7x5x3), which has 370hp/piston (aka 2900hp total), but the flywheel is way too heavy to be good on most cars. The best I got was an unstable 140 km/h with a bunch of wasted power through the clutch (wasted power because a solid clutch would stall the engine or flip over the car 100 times).
The engine by spacewalk has about 600 hp per piston, but DenseFrost made one that goes up to 800 per. Hope that kAN revisits the pressure engine. Edit: The maximum hp per piston unofficially is 1000 per piston for pressure engine.
What things should we build in Scrap Mechanic? It has been a bit but I'm looking to get back into some fun projects!
hi kAN
Idk but, I kinda wanna see you try and build some valve gear! maybe even a whole train
it would be cool to see you try to build just the Johnson Bar on its own just to see if you can
Have you ever played a game called Space Engineers?
You should build a plane
