    Fun fact about that tall man jumpscare: The man was played by Mike Lanier in his first and only acting role.
    He earned his title as Michigan's Tallest because he stood at 7', 7" tall! And he and his brother were "World's Tallest Twins" by the Guinness Book of World Records.
    Sadly, Mike Lanier passed away in April of 2018 at the age of 48 from complications from pancreatic cancer.
    He forever gave us one of the most bizarre and unexpected jumpscares ever. Rest in Peace, Mike.

    I think Paul’s logic with giving it to a sex worker, is it’s the best shot at prolonging the entity from killing anyone. Theoretically a sex worker and their clients are having sex with strangers often. So, once he gives it to one the entity will continue to pass on from one person to the next. The entity catches up with you quicker when you pass it on to someone closer to you cause it’s less likely you’ll have sex with someone else quick enough. It’s fcked but it’s such an impossible situation I think he honestly thought of the best solution.

    • @msfeistybabe
      @msfeistybabe 8 месяцев назад +26

      Fly abroad, hire an escort with many international clients and have her accompany you to an orgy, ideally with other international guests. Have sex with her there to ensure they're before you in line and pay whatever necessary so that they have sex with at least one other person there. You will put a few people between you and the entity in one night, people from all over the world with probably very promiscuous sex lives (international clients of sex workers have a higher probability of travelling a lot and contacting sex workers in several countries). If the entity has to travel between countries every few victims it could take years to catch one that travels as lot. Years in which that person passes the curse further down the line. It minimizes the amount of victims by maximizing travel time and could keep you in the clear for deades.

    • @OsefKincaid
      @OsefKincaid 5 месяцев назад

      That doesn't work though. The client will get the ghost, then they're most likely dying rather than giving it to someone else (and even if they do, all of those people are unaware anyway so they'll be dying at some point), and then it comes back to the sex worker. You haven't gotten rid of it, you've just killed a bunch more people.

    This movie is so eerie and left me with that creepy feeling the whole night after watching it. Not because of the plot itself alone. The plot on paper is just mundane. But the director did many subtle things to subconsciously make us uncomfortable. And it worked. Like leaving the setting and time period ambiguous. One scene it’s seemingly warmer and then someone turns the corner and it’s fall. How In one house there’s new stainless steel appliances, but the neighbor’s house has old black and white tvs and old wallpaper. Same with cars from different periods. And the device that girl is using that doesn’t even exist. Clothing style etc. These little things subconsciously mess with our minds. Also the fact that the “monster” is slow is much more frightening. Leaving a constant feeling of dread. Idk but the movie makes me feel icky lol.

  • @vin3401
    @vin3401 8 месяцев назад +35

    Those weird things you noticed like the girl wearing thigh-high socks in a bikini at the beach, the nurse's outfit not matching the others', the weird shell e-reader, etc. were all purposeful, the writer/director wanted to give the movie a dream-like feel and make people question what was going on since the story was inspired by recurring nightmares he had as a kid. So that's why the characters will be wearing clothes from different eras and even seasons, why the cars are from different decades, why the interior design of the houses look like they came from a 70s magazine, the CRT TVs and old movies, why the first victim is the only one to ever use a cellphone, and so on.
    The writer/director said this in an interview:
    "There are production design elements from the ’50s on up to modern day. A lot of it is from the ’70s and ’80s. That e-reader cell phone-or “shell phone”-you’re talking about is not a real device. It’s a ’60s shell compact that we turned into a cell phone e-reader. So I wanted modern things, but if you show a specific smartphone now, it dates it. It’s too real for the movie. It would bother me anyway. So we made one up. And all of that is really just to create the effect of a dream-to place it outside of time, and to make people wonder about where they are. Those are things that I think happen to us when we have a dream."

    Fun Facts:
    The film’s cinematography and score are heavily inspired by John Carpenter
    The entire score by Disasterpeace was completed in less than three weeks
    The film’s concept derives from a reoccurring nightmare the director used to have, in which he would be stalked by a predator that continually walked slowly towards him
    Jay is short for Jamie, a tribute to scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis. In the film, Jay has a sister named Kelly. Jamie Lee Curtis also has a sister named Kelly Curtis
    David Robert Mitchell (Director) said that neither a condom nor same-gender sex would stop the monster and the curse would still be passed on
    The director David Robert Mitchell said in an interview that the 'monster' could potentially board a plane in order to follow the cursed person
    (At around 8 mins) In the beginning of the film, when the main character Jay is seen looking into the mirror as she gets ready for her date with Hugh, there are two photos on the mirror: one of Jay in the swimming pool and the other of her and her father. At the end of the film, "It" takes the form of her father and attacks Jay in the swimming pool. We also see him in a photo towards the end of the movie
    Mike Lanier, who played the very tall "It", is a 7'7" Detroit resident who designed engines for General Motors and was one half of the world's tallest twins

    I'm not sure what the writer had in mind but for me the movie is about death, not STDs.
    Death is coming for us all. The ending symbolizes the decision to live life moving forward and not constantly worried about or fearing the end. There appears to be someone (perhaps the entity is back) following them at the end. But they don't care. They're living life and not looking back.

    One of my favorite things about this movie is the technology- it sets the movie in more of an alternate universe where the era is ambiguous. There are Polaroids, modern clothes, but then futuristic “shell phones”. Even the music has a distorted 80s sound as if time has folded onto itself.
    It’s like it’s in a twilight zone universe. This movie will also age very uniquely due to it being atemporal
    The dark park setting is one of my favorites, it feels like a liminal space. It literally feels like an alternate universe.

    Oh Alanda! If I end up in a scary situation or horror movie, I want to be in it with you. Every five seconds you’re thinking up actions to take, aren’t putting up with any crap from your friends and family (or ghost/killer), and are funny enough that you’d make it all worthwhile. I haven’t seen your reactions for awhile, and it makes me so happy that you reacted to this movie. It’s terrifying because even if you pass it to a sex worker, that poor person might not pass it along fast enough and they’ll then not know to be vigilant and will get killed. Then you have to go through all the steps to participating in basically a murder of someone else by having sex with them. *And* then you have to always be watching around you for signs that someone walking toward you might be a ghostly std. What an exhausting haunting this would be.😂 Thanks for so many laughs during this reaction.

      That's why I like this movie so much. The fact that once you get it, you're doomed. Either it gets you and you die, or you live in constant fear of your life, always literally looking over your shoulder (which is arguably a fate worse than death). And you can only get a break if you pass it on, but then you have to live with the fact of knowingly dooming another person to death as well as now you have no idea how far down the line you are - it could always come back to you, or you never see it again if you're lucky. But if you're lucky, you won't know it and the constant fear of death keeps existing. That feeling of hopelesness stayed with me long after watching. Not since The Thing has a movie instillied such deep paranoia in me.

    This movie is a great nightmare coming of age tale. It's about that horrible weight that you come to bear when you transition out of being a teenager when you realize that everything in your life is finite. Your ability to simply enjoy the serenity of idling around is robbed from you, and you must bear the weight of knowing you are going to die, as well as facing down the gauzy filter of youth being removed and viewing life in all it's ugliness. You can bear this burden with the help of your loved ones, they can lighten the load, but it will never fully lift; she goes to the places that made her happy as a kid, but it doesn't help. Even when they try to "kill" the thing, even when she passes it on, she realizes that she will spend the rest of her life always dreading it's arrival, and she must now learn how to move forward with living life despite this fact.
    That's why there is a deep irony when you mentioned horror as about beginnings, middles, and ends. This is a horror movie about the end never coming and learning to move forward with yourself despite that fact. So in a way, this might have been the best horror to watch right now.

Everyone wear clothes that do no match their own fits and the season it seems to be, the decor in the house that makes no sense when you really look, the compact, the score. I actually really like this movie even though it gets a ton of hate. Too many movies focus on in your face shit. Not many go the slow creepy route. This movie did that. Gave me vibes of Michael and Jason chasing ppl. We need more creepy shit and less jump scare movies.

    I only recently heard that the characters specifically wear a mix of summer and winter clothes, while also frequenting pools and the beach, to make the audience uncomfortable because it psyches us out by not being able to tell what season they are in. And that's so cool. This movie is one of my favorites.

    I live out in the country surrounded by woods and farmland. After I saw this movie I had to walk my dog really late at night and there was what we call "ghost fog" in Sweden, light fog just covering the ground. I tell you it was super uncomfortable walking around scanning the edge of the forest for anyone walking towards me

    I can’t remember the creator, but there’s a video essay about this movie and the two other movies in the film trio. The video discusses how the filmography isn’t about std’s, but sex as a gateway into adulthood and it’s subsequent disillusionment. I think you’d like it, should you be interested in looking it up.

    *STAY READY SO YOU DON'T GOTTA GET READY!* right? Girl is wearing a bathing suit out, long t-shirt to bed... wtf? I would be DRESSED with the trainers laced up 24/7. And my hair in a tight bun. You bring up a good point about her friend being on guard while she sleeps... he can't SEE it. I would sleep in the garage in a car. It would have to open a couple doors! (and you could still break out!) 😅

    I love how timeless the movie feels. Only one usage of a cell phone and its ringtone suggests it’s not a smart phone. The old tv’s and cars. The one piece of tech repeatedly used - the shell e-reader - doesn’t exist IRL. The costume design is a mix of fashion from varying decades. The music has that John Carpenter feel. It’s also not even clear what season it is- characters swim outside but also dress for chilly weather. Just a great aesthetic to help the movie stay relevant over the years!

    Okay, so hear me out though. I watched this with one of my friends and we were thinking that a sex worker would be best to give it to. Really, when it's explained because they can give it to someone and it will keep getting passed. If a sex worker gives it to another sex worker it would be even better. (He's thought) because their clenits will have sex and it will move on from there. Rewatching it through your reaction video, now I wonder why didn't the "bad boy" of the film pass it on to the women he kept flirting with. Very missed moment. (Also I love the movie killed him off, its almost like the writer was like...oh shoot, the problem is solved too quickly, KILL HIS ASS lmao)

    My sympathy for Jamie is based on whether or not she had sex with any of the guys on the lake. If I recall correctly, the scene was intended to be ambiguous about whether she did or not, which is a detriment to the film. If she did, since it came back after her, that means she's responsible for an innocent person's death and it puts her in the same boat as Jeff/Hugh. Actually worse, since Jeff/Hugh gave her the information she needed to avoid It. I'd have liked to see that scene continued with her stopping and turning back, realizing that it's exactly what Jeff/Hugh did to her. She already tried passing it on to the other guy and he knew about It and still ended up dead, so she wouldn't want to do that again or be like Jeff/Hugh.
