This video featuring shots of San Diego's Coaster Commuter train from early on in my HD Video days from late 2009 through mid 2011.
You will see Coaster trains on various parts of the 41 mile line between Oceanside and San Diego at just about all times of day.

4:14: I don't know why, but this one's my most favorite. The terrifingly beautiful and musical sound of that horn, the sun setting, and the Pacific Ocean just a few meters away to the West is a great combination.

Man o man I miss the Coaster... I don't even film them anymore. 2303 is the biggest let down, everything about that horn rocked! Nice video! That last shot of 2105 was pretty baller too!!! Engineer too obviously ;-)

I miss when 2310, 2309,2308 acually sounded good choked. I miss when they all sounded good choked. 2302, 2301, and 2305 are the only ones they really sound good anymore and 2306 has a hybrid K5LA.

I noticed some trains have 6 cars and most have 5 is this cause there are more passengers at a specific time or they just have extra cars?

It is standard for the trains to run with 5 cars. Following the recession, in 2009 and into 2010, many coaster trains ran with 4 cars to save fuel, as there was a slight decrease in ridership. Since then, the norm has gone back to 5 cars with 2 sets occasionally running with a 6th car to accomodate higher ridership, particularly in the summer.

I heard the route between San Deigo and Northside is very scenic...Is that true? I'm flying to SD next month for a few days just brewery hopping around the area (I know....I'm one of those geeks who's willing to fly across the country from NC just to drink beer.....But I have a $300 Southwest voucher I needed to use by April, so why not?) and planning to take the Coaster up to check out some of the North County breweries on the Sprinter line

In 2010, restrictors were put in all the horns. Sadly, they will not sound as good as they used to for the foreseeable future.

Nice collection. I understand trains can not blow their horns while running inside SAN DIEGO downtown area. Is not it? Maybe to avoid disturbing people working in the offices and residents in the area. I suppose people is seriously responsible to avoid accidients in rail crossings

Hi, yes that is correct. As of December 2012, trains no longer blow their horns in Downtown San Diego as part of a multi-million dollar "Quiet Zone" project. I plan on doing a video at some point in the future on the quiet zone with more detailed information.
