    If u wanna avoid the frosty edges, leave the brown protector layer on the acrylic and it cuts super neat through!

    • @bradonhoover3002
      @bradonhoover3002 Год назад +13

      I think the issue that came up as part of his research is that weeding the protector off afterwards with such high detail/closed loop cut patterns ends up more often than not taking more time and putting more permanent scratches in the material to the point that it obscures the artwork more than it would to just peel the protector off first and wipe it with alcohol like Jazza did

    • @RickHunterCL

      You can remove that brown protector and replace it with a low tack transfer paper, way easier to remove

    For generally using Lazer cutters it's better to keep the film on the acrilic, it helps minimize the fuzziness and in general it's better to do it for everything you can it helps also with wood to minimize charring if you place tape on the area you wish to cut. This is just my experience with using them and it works completely fine for etching too obviously. As long as you have a good ventilation(not even needed just me being really really overly cautious on advice), which you should since you use a Lazer cutter.

    So watching this video I realize Jazza already has a kind of experience with this already. Starting with the painting he did with Chloe Rose, then the Treasure Planet one he did with his Pro Pack. The way he set up the layers reminded me a lot of the way he set up the Doctor Strange piece. It's incredible how what started with painting on Epoxy kind of leads to things on this

  • @jakekunz5168
    @jakekunz5168 Год назад +8

    7:53 I think the best thing to do with a forefront character would be to reverse the lines and have the “open” spaces be a fill area so that they are etched to be opaque and stand out front the background more 👍!!

  • @AdrianJensen
    @AdrianJensen Год назад +4

    You can make a digital artwork (or use a photo) and separate it into the red, green, and blue color channels, and hand etch those into the acrylic like you're cross hatching with a pen, and then when you light those 3 panels up with red, blue, and green lights they'll add together into a full color image.

    This is very cool! It’s interesting how you layered the colors to make the perspective details. It’s funny that I would have layered them differently to make the details pop different, but that’s just how my goofy little brain saw it as you were putting it together. I love comparing ideas to improve my artistic style. Thanks for creating this piece and sharing it with us ❤❤❤

    Use the clear rear panel like did for the back. Get blue, red, yellow, and lightly smokey gray sheets. Engrave the background on clear. Next, take all the pieces that are red and engraved on the red sheet. Blue on blue and smokey gray for the black outline. Then stake the. You might need to get thin acrylic like 3mm.

    My only problem with some of these projects is that they're made for a video, and then what? They just go into a closet somewhere? I'd love to see things like this decorating the office (not that we see office all that much haha) or in a "museum," even if it's just a private showroom. These things deserve to be properly displayed and not just set aside.

  • @reecy9607
    @reecy9607 Год назад

    So I do laser engraving and if you are getting the frosty edges there are 2 reasons one the power is too high. The other factor is they type of acrylic you are using. You dont really need to go deep at all for this to work you can do a very light etch and you will get the same effect. Also its best to do your artwork mirrored and then flip it so the front facing portion is as smooth as possible. It makes for a much cleaner look.

    Cast arylic is brighter than extruded material in edgelit art. Its also more expensive. Another way to get more brightness is to CNC the lines with a V bit instead of laser cut them. You can save half of the LED strips by using aluminum tape on opposing sites as a reflector.

  • @ChibiChula
    @ChibiChula Год назад +3

    That turned out really cool! 😍 Best part is you can change the look by changing the colors of the lights so your artwork still matches even if you change the colors of the decor in your room. 😁👍
    Edit: Hey, if you want to get really fancy you can add a control board and program the lights to change into different color schemes too. That way you can have it morphing constantly, especially if you program it to change colors slowly and smoothly and hold for a while before changing again. That would be really epic! 😎
    Edit 2: OMG, infinity effect with a mirror behind it, maybe? 😵 Would that work? 🤔

    wonder how cool it would look if a Superman one was done where the cap is its own layer that is on an angle behind him givinhg it depth like its being blown back rather then just hanging down. Would be tricky since would need the cape to be carved right at the end and have it lean at an angle ending right at the shoulders of the Superman on the next layer... I bet it would look epic.

    I discovered a similar effect by accident a few years ago, except using a CNC mill. Im nowhere near the artist Jazza is, so I manly stuck with pictograms. but the effect is really really striking in person. a green lit biohazard for my fishtank, company logo for my office, a bunch of funny warning signs, that kinda thing. I found polycarbonate worked better than acrylic, and I would suggest a laser over a mill, cos that thing is LOUD when its cutting.
    also, the edge lighting is really efficient, even a single LED is effective, but I found one in the middle of each edge was enough, I just superglued SMD leds straight on. you can use standard 5mm leds, but you need to file the lens part flat which is a pain, and the epoxy is really stanky when cut.
    I was lucky enough to be given a few days at work to play with the CNC, the instructions pretty much "figure out how to run this thing and what it can do". if you get the chance, I highly recommend having a play with this technique. and you dont have to be a good artist. I started by googleing "portals svg" theres some great funny icons in that game that are easy to cut.
