Something I feel contributed to Bully's greatness is seasons/holidays. It was one of the only games I've ever played with seasonality, and it greatly added to the experience IMO. I remember having saves specifically for Halloween and Winter/Christmas. Today in reflection, with the graphics its a little lacking, but back-then I thought it was incredible.
Honestly? I adore the graphics. Maybe it's nostalgia, but games around 2007-2013 just had a really great look to them. They graphics are old, but that doesn't make them bad - they have a consistent art style and always feel fresh. I'll take Bully graphics over one of the million default Unity or Unreal Engine games, using default assets, default lighting, etc. any day.

By around 2009, Rockstar New England had developed a playable vertical slice of the game in place with working versions of these new systems which they presented to Rockstar as a project milestone. This is gonna sound really corny but Jimmy was my childhood hero. I started playing Bully in 2015 when I was in sixth grade and would get bullied the hell out of every day (P.E. was the worst because 4 of my bullies were in the same class), so what better way to unleash all my stress after school than to play a game where you stand up to bullies and beat the shit out of them? I'd always wish I was as strong and brave as Jimmy was, but I was too much of a weenie to do shit, and my parents and principal only worsened matters. Kinda funny looking back because now I have a girlfriend and I've been hitting the gym and practicing MMA recently
