    I had many many traumas. I grew up in a violent home. Drugs, weapons, literally violence between my parents. I had a gun pointed at me for the 1st time of my life when I was Just a 5 year old innocent kid. I was beaten many times to the point of being in bed for days. Literally whipped like a slave. Being awaken from your bed and beaten until you pee yourself. This was Just a Tiny sample of my childhood traumas. Want more? Want the other life stages traumas list?
    OR, do you wanna know how to overcome them? I mean, do you wanna keep complaining and saying you are a victim of life or break those cicles?

    As much as I respect Sadhguru, a lot of people like myself have serious traumatic pasts that are not simply "your life is not working out as you want it."

      Exactly what I felt. So many people have had such awful experiences and this guy really seems quite dismissive of his followers' pain so much of the time. Maybe he has not been through profound pain starting in childhood himself, so he really doesn't know & can't have empathy for it.

      Many ppl go through trauma but they don't let it to affect them .

      I have listened to multiple Gabor videos and none of them helped with overcoming trauma...it was all about the repercussions of trauma or about addiction.....
      Like why doesnt he talk about the actual healing?

      @@iOwnzNubz1 He does in some of them, & his books go more in depth. My take is his work is to educate people about the concept of trauma and share his research & his experience with it. Being heard, having your experience validated, & hearing that it's not your fault is a first step for a lot of people, & that's what his books & talks can offer. It can't take the place of a real lived experience of being seen & heard by a genuinely caring professional who has been where you are & who can do the therapy that actually works. Speaking from experience, CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) does NOT work for trauma. But there are things that do, like EMDR therapy (with the strong caveat that it needs to be done correctly - it can be done badly by poorly trained professionals) and therapy working with the IFS or Internal Family Systems model. It can be hard to find a professional who has these qualities but I can attest they are out there. I understand the frustration & I hope that helps.

      Practicing inner engineering will remove trauma from body and mind - you just have to do the work. Sadhguru gives you and teaches how to use the tools.

    Usually that past trauma is from childhood. Something I told my own subscribers this week. As I see this daily as a healthcare provider. People who are destroyed adults because they couldn't outrun a terrible childhood. Too many times this becomes the excuse to give up. The reason someone won't try. "Because this (fill in the blank) happened to me." Now understand I am not discounting terrible childhoods. I had one as well. What I am saying is that the world doesn't care. It is totally indifferent. It may owe you but good luck trying to collect. The only way to collect your due is to go out and seek it, pursue it and take it back from the universe. The stories of great triumph are rarely without great adversity--ever notice that? Most will lie down to bad circumstances. But those who get up and fight back will insure that their story is a great one. Hope this helps someone out there---keep being great---Charles.

      Charles, past trauma will always show up in the present. But if it can be recognized as past trauma (due its dreadfulness) - it can be processed (through sitting with the discomfort) - and successfully overcome.

      Trauma can occur in non-terrible childhoods. In fact most don’t remember bad things happening as it’s a lot about what did not happen - aka seeing understands and accepting the child for who they really are. Look into the work of Gabor Mate, he explains it very well. It’s a myth that only people with terrible childhood have trauma. In fact most of us experienced some degree of trauma - with busy parents who are traumatized themselves. CPTSD didn’t even exist as a medical term before the 1980s, so it makes sense people don’t understand the meaning and dynamics.

    I spent the last 8 years utterly dedicated to healing my past traumas.
    I was initially shocked that he doesn’t validate how our bodies can be freaking not because we say “life isn’t how I want it”, but because the survival response is now running on autopilot within us. It is triggered left right and centre, by ordinary life events. This was not our conscious choice. As children we were deeply hurt.
    However after doing my healing, he is ultimately correct. Even our trauma IS what life has given us. Trauma is healed very fast once we allow deep presence in the body (NO ruminating on your past, OR disliking any part of your trauma). You simply become one with everything that is.
    It may be that he didn’t experience abusive parents etc, or that he chooses not to recollect it. But regardless, his message is true

      Have you heard of the eye movement experiment... Have those with trauma talk about their trauma and then simple ask them after they have finished to follow your finger.. all that build up trauma (mentally and physically)... Vanishes... Why, because they become aware of reality again.. they regain the ability to realize their trauma doesn't exist.. it's carried only by choice, you want to let go ... But you aren't letting yourself escape from it... The rest of existence has.. you're the one stuck.

    I think what he is saying makes complete sense and it really is simple not complex I’ve suffered from childhood trauma as well as relationships trauma and I often found that I felt my life should have went a certain way I felt like my parents could’ve did better etc in hindsight I can say my struggles and my traumas made me stronger made me smarter because if my parents had done everything I wanted them to I probably wouldn’t even feel the need to do self development self awareness or self love exercises, really it’s all in the way you think all our life experiences show us is to do better we have to work on ourselves try reprogramming your subconscious mind stop feeling like you are victim and start feeling life you are a fighter or a survivor

      I’m sorry - by what you’re saying you either didn’t experience consequences of childhood trauma or you don’t understand how trauma physically changes our brains.
      Glamorizing trauma is disrespectful to trauma and neglect survivors. And no it cannot be changed with positive thinking or goodwill. It requires somatic work for the autonomous nervous system.

      @giginy8697 Suffering is not holding people. People are holding suffering. As long as someone thinks they're a victim, they will always find problems as opposed to solutions. There is specific breathwork to reprogram the nervous system, along with strong affirmations for the subconscious to replace the victim thinking that have helped heal people. It takes innerwork to heal. Being reliant on medication, distractions of social media, people, and etc. isn't the solution (as I'm sure people are slowly finding that out)

      No youtube video is gonna heal your trauma .It just changes your perspective of looking at problems .If you want a solution , you can do the inner engineering course by sadhguru ..I have done it and it was life changing for me.

    This can be very triggering for anyone who is working on and in process of addressing their trauma. However, he does have a point. And I say that as someone who has experienced a certain amount of childhood trauma and later in life. You see, it's about empowerment. If we keep in victim mindset then there's always a potential trigger and another reason to feel that someone or something is responsible for our present experience. That takes the responsibility out of hands to do something positive about it! We also can beat up on ourselves all the time. It's definitely helpful and a necessary stage to have awareness of what happened without bypassing or suppressing our emotions - that is not healthy for sure - and to maybe find tools to help cope with overwhelming symptoms etc of our trauma, but at a certain point one must ask, 'Is this improving my life all this dwelling on what is wrong, my pain and misery?' We can't change what happened but we can see it with clearer eyes, without bias and with understanding. We can use our wounds, pain and troubles as fuel for self love and realization thereby enabling us to be more compassionate towards others and to enjoy this precious life and pass on that joy and peace and wisdom to the world around us 😊🙏❤

    Healing from the past traumas or PTSD needs real therapy. Sadguru has already answered that once before. You should address it instead of distracting yourself from the trauma. He said the new gen way of distracting when the mood is off is to go for a movie, trips , drinks and so on. We must address it and this distracting will not help in the long term.
    I wish someone told me that before. Having born into an extreme dysfunc fam, all my life all I did was distracting. 28 years of distraction piled up into a huge mess that I finally shattered into pieces. Its then I pondered for the roots . Now searching for my broken pieces which I don't ever think, will get it all together.

      i really want to feel good but pain is unbearable though almost invisible. I hate my mom and dad, they didn't take proper care of me ever.
      My father just abandoned me when I was 6. My mom is an inept mother and narcissistic person who drains all my happiness as soon as she gets to me.

    If anyone came here looking for some hope or understanding about their trauma and didn't find it, I would direct you to Bessel Van Der Kolk's work, 'The Body Keeps The Score' or look up Peter Levine and Somatic Experiencing, or even Polyvagal theory or Internal Family Systems, as someone who has explored everything out there, these are the best approaches we have at the moment and ones that offer compassion for people with trauma and PTSD histories that are still trapped in their bodies and can't be removed by a simple change of attitude or fancy catch phrases. Edit: I would add that Yoga or almost any meditation is a great tool for grounding and stability, but it likely won't get to the root of your issues so you need a multi-faceted approach, people who know how to heal trauma and a lot of patience.

    What about people who have been badly abused as children and have thoughts of their past rammed down their throats frequently?

      This is easily solved by becoming more conscious. (By easily i mean simply. Nothing worth doing is easy i suppose)
      I would recommend going into intensely positive things as often as you can. What happened in your childhood was intensely negative, so seek out moments alone in a forest, or weekend long meditations and so on. You are healed step by step once you take into consideration all of the insights you gained from the intense moments.

    I’ve watched countless Sadhguru videos. I’ve logged hours of watching his talks. One thing I’ve noticed is that no matter what question is asked, he finds a way to repeat the same scripts he has used in the past. The jokes are the same, the stories are the same. So sometimes he misses the question entirely because he is repeating the same stories and advice over and over.
    It’s gotten to the point where he says one of two lines and I know, verbatim, what he will say next. Sometimes the scripted responses don’t even fit the question at all and leave people confused and repeating their question.
    I love Sadhguru. His wisdom has impacted my life greatly. However, once you watch as many talks and videos, even his new book “Karma” much of what is said is scripted and repeated.

      Register for inner engineering course by Sadhguru instead of watching countless youtube videos. The youtube videos can only change your perspective about the problem but if you really want a solution , you can do the inner engineering course .I have done it and it was life changing for me.

    Sadhguru addressed the core of trauma in his vocabulary. But not everyone will understand him but to break it down u do meditation to understand trauma in its core form.

    I have enjoyed the insights however here, regarding severe past trauma... I hear no wisdom to heal. Acknowledging not ever experiencing trauma...OK.
    No insight into healing 'past' stuck trauma was offered to the question.
    The answer was future focused. Insensitive to how profound some trauma can be.
    Trauma is real and stuck in the nervous system.
    This is the first answer that showed lack of insight:(

      Yes, I think that is very true. Compassion should be the first response to the question. A friend has been pushing me to watch sadhguru but I don't think his approach is right for everyone - definitely not relevant to people who have PTSD or C-PTSD. In one of his other videos he didn't even know the difference between schizophrenia and a person who has many personalities. They are two different disorders, and the second is called DID, dissociative identity disorder, and is directly caused by severe early childhood traumas. These kinds of traumas can be helped by new therapies like EMDR (done right) but this is not his area of wisdom, and his insights aren't helpful to people who have experienced severe trauma (though I appreciate his approach can be helpful to many, and I'm glad for them).

      I agree. Trauma is real and affects brain development. It's like he is dismissing it as a trivial expectation to not be traumatized. It's not funny. Much humor and jokes here. Makes me sad 😔

      Yup, agreed. Since I learned about the nervous system and brain in trauma (or even the fact that I myself am a trauma survivor), I kinda disassociated from spirituality even though that was totally my thing.
      Cognitive therapies have not worked for me and constantly working on my mind through meditation etc. is pretty much the same. Not saying meditation can't help overcoming PTSD but the number one priority has to be to get back into the body safely (EMDR, somatic experiencing, singing and breathing etc.). From that point, you can work on yourself more intellectually but with my current knowledge and experience I see this as the essential first step towards healing.

    This was not remotely helpful regarding past trauma. For those beaten, broken and recovering from PTSD... there is nothing wrong with you. You are warriors. Get therapy, cry, get it out. This is very high level for privileged folks. He didn't answer the real question.

      I don't think that the real question was asked in the first place. They should have been specific with the question like child sexual abuse and mental health, rape and mental health, childhood trauma etc and how to help people get out of such situations . There are millions who are stuck in such situations and suffering endlessly and are looking for solutions.

    Has this man had a traumatic childhood or a seriously traumatic event/s. I'm sure it's very easy to be peaceful and meditate easily when you were raised in a loving home. If this man has overcome such things then I will respect his opinion - direct me to the guru that has overcome genuine adversity!!!!

    Many will come to view this video probably due to some childhood trauma, maybe they are having bad dreams or feeling constrained in their daily lives. There are various comments that said he did not answer the question. I put it bluntly as such: If you put a big fish and a small fish together in a fish tank and the big fish tries to eat the small fish, inevitably, the small fish will feel traumatized. It will feel traumatized while it is in the same fish tank or until it gets eaten. This is a rather extreme example but illustrates what is meant by the process of the unwinding of karma (it can't be helped), and recognizing that "things that do not happen the way you think it should happen, maybe it is happening somebody else's way". Unlike the small fish, most beings will have the capacity to respond to the trauma such as not letting these events define them, understanding that the fear itself is also part of the ignorance, and seeking to adapt and thrive.

    I think spiritual leaders are not knowledgeable about trauma. This is a new concept for them.
    Trauma and triggers are involuntary, you can’t possibly control them intellectually... sadly...

      yes it’s an old mindset that people are responsible for being in pain and one person getting hurt while another doesn’t means the person that was hurt failed somehow… very old mindset. today there are therapies around how body and brain store trauma and are wired with it in the very nervous system. it takes processing the trauma to be freed from jt not just accepting that it’s there or bc you didn’t like it

    If you have a trauma or an illness always go to see a doctor or a therapist etc. At least some real person. Then do yoga, and don’t expect its benefits to come to you just by listening sadhgurus speech on the internet. These videos are just tips at least how I see them.
    This might feel like some toxic spirituality. But even Sadhgurus answer was a bit harsh and roundabout especially for people going on a trauma (like it did to me) he got the point: when healing a trauma it is important first to give up the resistance of what happened or is happening and then you can look up for the solutions instead of seeing just the problems.
    So, don’t downplay other people’s experiences and pain and feelings, but neither those who got helped by Sadhguru. There are so many different stories and life situations that you and I don’t have a clue. Stay easy :)

      it’s not really at a moments notice if you watch enough you’ll find he answers the same questions over and over the same ways repeatedly, and repeats the same stories and things. not saying he doesn’t have a quick mind but what we see is often a question he’s already answered 500 times the same way before rather than a fresh response to that person.

    He didn't even touch the question. Traumatic experiences wire your brain in a way that you just can't come out of it. Where you are born and where you grew up shapes the thing which you call "you" in a way that it doesn't change no matter where you go. If you are lucky enough to be born in a healthy and loving environment you become a healthy, happy and loving human being and vice versa. Listening to these so called Gurus may be entertaining, but you will never get any better.

    Unfortunately, there are some people who need to attack, they are afflicted by how they responded to horrific abuse in their early childhood. Sadly these people cannot be reasoned with. They are called narcissists and I hear everywhere that you should avoid them as they will destroy you or make life difficult.

    This guy is so out of touch. Being verbally, physically, emotionally, and psychologically abused from birth to age 19 is not an “unexpected thing that happened.” It is the foundation on which that person views the world. It it’s a nervous system that is in a constant state of arousal. Is ingrained in the way they connect and relate to other human beings. It’s is the foundation for every thought and idea. It is a chemical imbalance from a lifetime of cortisol spikes. It’s not as simple as “I wanted it this way, and that’s not the way that it went so now I’m sad.” It’s fine that this man teaches meditation but these talks he gives are so dangerous. He’s essentially telling people that they’re suffering because they had expectations. No. Someone with traumas is suffering because they experienced sometime traumatic, and continue to experience it subconsciously. It takes years to reshape a world view when you were born into abuse and torment. It takes years to understand healthy human dynamic and trust. It takes years to learn to form your own opinions because you’re so used to being forced to the will of abusive people. It takes years to learn to sleep. It takes years to unlearn the habit of constantly anticipating the actions of others because you had to do it to survive as a child/young adult. And I feel that people who have been traumatized are more likely to gravitate to someone like that that seems peaceful, but hasn’t a clue. Just stick to teaching meditation and leave trauma to the professionals.

    The waves, are representative of time. No? And in time, as a rider of this wave.. will continue not only forward, but through both the peaks and the valleys flawlessly. Less you fall.. and lay drifting..and likely with maximum effort.. but rest assured, another opportunity will soon come along. To get on another wave again. And surf.
    For those with traumatic experiences.. You have some of the highest waves, with the lowest valleys. But, should you learn to surf that very same wave.. instead of being crushed.. again and again.. at the peak of that same wave, you may find enlightenment. Or bliss in the view from up there.. Please just be sure to help those like you.

    I lost a little respect for Sadhguru with this answer. The questioner is asking about deep-seated trauma, from significant events in one's life. Sadhguru fails to address this, and instead adopts a much more superficial tack, talking about life "not going the way you want it to". This suggests the questioner is really asking what you should do when your favourite football team loses, or you don't get a job you quite fancied, not what to do if you've been abused, raped, seriously ill or experienced anything else similarly traumatic.

      So Sadguru missed the question and digressed with his usual answer to a different question.
      The moderator needed to follow up while possibly rephrasing the intitial question if he didnt do so on the program.
      I believe Sadguru has a good answer to this question.

    I think what Sadhguru said is this......
    In life many things happen good things happen bad things also happen. We all expect good things based on our experiences which is limited. Sadhguru tell that we should experience new situations which is beyond our expectations. Also the negative things which happened cannot be changed. But we can learn things from it. We can learn it on our own or with the help of other experts.
    We need to move on from that.

      Me too but you have to forgive and let it Go. You should not let it define you. I’ve been living in the past for so long it’s been affecting me badly because I’ve been resentful & hating them that’s not doing anything to them it’s hurting you. If you have to go no contact do that but forgive them and let go of the person it’s impossible to forget the memory completely but you don’t have to let control you. Stop bringing it up , don’t talk about it , try to forget about as much as you can.

    The question was about trauma and he didn't even touch it. He's good at empty talking and sophistry. He was born in a family, where he got a lot of attention and care. How would he understand the pain of people, who were physically, emotionally or sexually abused or have always been neglected and been never taken care of? Does he expect a new born child to be fit for the world immediately after the birth? To make oneself fit for the world one needs to know the ways and a lot of support from others. If one doesn't get it, one wanders around the world being confused about life and one's existence. So, please be empathetic to people who weren't lucky enough and don't laugh at people's pain. @sadhuguru

    The discompassion, imagine telling someone who got raped and beaten in a drug ridden home that. “Life just ddnt turn out the way you thought it should, it’s your fault for not making yourself fit for life”
    The truth of the privileges this man sits upon to have such a blasé opinion is as disgusting as it is shallow
    I think we’d see a different story if we just upset he’s sleep and diet for a bit let alone serious abuse, he’s composure and cocky humour would soon fall away
