Nice job Randy. Martins are famous for the bindings coming loose. I think it is mostly on their newer guitars. The factory just uses acetone to glue the binding, and I don't think the newer binding material holds as well as the old stuff. Anyhow, I was chicken to use CA glue on my son's Martin, it has such a beautiful finish and I was taking no chances. Man I researched and it seems like just about every luthier uses different glues, from fish glue to wood glues. Well I took a shot with the canopy glue that our old buddy Jerry uses. It's good stuff Randy, water cleanup and holds that binding solid. I didn't heat the binding like a dummy, but it turned out real well, just a slight bit proud in one spot. I told my son that if it comes loose again that I will heat the binding and get it perfect. Well all I can say is it doesn't even slightly look like it will ever come loose, so perfect to me.
I used to use acetone but it didn't always hold so I started using CA and have never had one to come back, because it works so well I just never did use anything else. good to hear your work came out the way you intended. thanks for tuning in!
Always meticulous work! Almost mesmerizing. Binding repair is tricky...I see how to do but, I'd shake and freak out lol if I had to do it. Hope you're well and my friend.🎶🎶🎶
I think of high action preference as I do of low seat height for bicycles. No matter how much you explain to people that the reverse is better/easier they are too afraid to try the difference. But then again, a guitar is designed for a specific range of action and it will play wrong if the range is exceeded by significant amounts.
Binding, Martins biggest Problem. Good Job!
