Thank you for viewing our video :)
This video shows you our DIY gate build. It has a modern horizontal style. We upgraded from the old white fence that was rotted and leaning.
We hope this video was fun to watch!

GreT job on the gate! The entire fence build looks great!
Thank you so much! We really appreciate your support 😁
This is amazing.
Thank you! We are so glad you enjoyed it!
super cool i did in my house almost the same thanks
Thank you, if you made a video or have a photo we’d love to see it!
You are my heroes, I like your works.:) I will make a similiar fence and gate. Thank you for your work and time.:)
Thanks a lot! If you build it send us some photos!
The brace on the gates are the wrong way round..... it will sag due to the brace not compounding the weight to the bottom hinge... and ideally, they should be not more than 45 degrees to be effective... apart from that, it looks great
Great observation! We're always trying to learn more, we appreciate the info
👍👍
No you 😂
Nice work and great video! could you share what is the width of planks and what is the dimension of the spacing between them? did the shrink over time and the spacing grew?
Love the results!!!! What type of lumber did you use. They look like 1x6 or 1x4
Thank you so much! They are actually 5/8" x 5&1/2" cedar fence pickets we got at Home Depot and cut down to size. They are really light weight and rot resistant.
Is there a way to open the gate from the outside or did you only make it able to open from the inside?
What kind of wood did you use? Looks great
Hey thanks Rachel :) we used cedar fence boards.
Hello, I was wondering if you could tell me how wide and how tall your gate is? Looks fantastic, and doing roughly the same thing at our house soon. Debating on a single gate or double like you did. Thank you!
Hi there! Thank you so much! Our gate doors are 6.5ft tall and each door is 2.5ft wide. The entire gate area from house to edge of the fence is about 8ft. Hope this helps!
Are your diagonal rails on the doors meant to provide structural support or is just there for style? Because if it’s for structural support for the frame, isn’t it suppose to be the other way around? I.e. the rail starts from the bottom corner closest to the post, and goes up toward the top corner farthest away from the post?
Edit: I just realised you posted this a year ago, how have the doors held up?
The diaganol brace is the wrong way around on both. You have to imagine hanging on the top part of the door furthest away from the hinges and the brace going from there to the bottom hinge where it would dig in. A brace the wrong way is better than no brace I'd assume.
What type of wood did you use to build gate
Was that a brad nailer you were using to attach the planks? It definitely looks nice to hide the nail holes, but are you worried at all about the nails rusting rapidly or were you able to find galvanized ones?
Looks really beautiful by the way!
Hi Benjamin, thank you for the compliment! We used a finish nailer to attach the boards initially and then used exterior galvanized screws to secure them. The nails were just used to hold the planks in place until we could screw them in. It was a lot easier nailing them first, than trying to screw them in while holding them straight. Hope this helps!
It looks awesome. What color is that? I love it!
Thank you so much! We used Sherwin Williams Exterior Chestnut :)
@@BrocAndAimee Is that SW3524 Chestnut SEMI Transparent? Thank you in advance.
it could also be SW3524SS Chestnut
Exterior Semi-Solid Stain
What size nails did you use putting up the fence boards?
We used 2 1/2" finish nails.
May I please know the measurements for the doors, the supports that you did with the speed square!
Yes! The frame for each door was 28.5" x 74.5"
Hey can I ask you, did the gate warp at all? Cos I've done one very similar to your design and it's wrapped. Can't get my head around why.
I'm a bricklayer not a joiner so cut me some slack
Did you do anything to seal the wood? Moisture could possibly be an issue for warping. Have you seen charred wood to finish it? It looks nice and makes it last way longer then anything else. You can also use other finishes on top of it. Just thought I would help with some ideas as I saw no one else had replied.
@@amberemma6136 I painted it with yacht varnish left over from the decking
@@jamesparkerone then I would ask what kind of wood you used and the dimensions you built
@@amberemma6136 It was made from pallet wood. The pallets were for glass. The big double sided ones
How far are the post from each other
Hey the spacing is 58". Let us know if you have any other questions
How much did you spend for the gate?
Hey Luciane! Our gate cost roughly $200 for everything
How can I get a picture of the fence?
You could send us a DM on Instagram @LetsWingItDIY or email us at tramopolis@gmail.com and we'd be happy to send you a photo :)
What kind of wood is used to build the doors and the horizontal fence?
The framing wood was douglas fir and the planks were cedar
You don’t stain Cedar!
Cedar absorbs better than pine for stains.
Your gates are on backwards
