There is a dupe at Sam’s club that seems to be holding up better than my barefoot dreams (Nordstrom’s rack $60) I wash and dry everything. It’s not super soft anymore but my fault for treating it like a regular blanket. 😂 Not worth the hype and price imo either.

I got a mug warmer (like a mini hot plate) from a thrift store for like $5 and it’s great to basically turn any mug into that fancy influencer warming mug lol

Yay I’m glad someone commented about this. I bought one for my sister in law for Christmas for like $25 ish dollars. I haven’t asked her how it’s worked but she seemed happy with it for a at least a few months, it’s been like two years so who knows if it’s still kickin around
I have a coffee warmer too and I love it. I use it too melt butter and warm the water for my net I pot too 😁❤ $5 from dollar store.

I bought a Barefoot Dreams blanket for $60 at Nordstrom Rack two years ago, after many years of being influenced. I don’t feel that it has held up well over time. I’ve washed it as the instructions say and hung it dry and it’s gotten very matted in places. No longer as soft as it once was. I got a dupe from Sam’s Club that is just as soft and has held up so much better.
The ones at Nordstrom Rack are made for Nordstrom Rack. I have 2 NR and 1 from the BD website and they’ve held up VERY differently
Same! I bought directly from the barefoot company and it’s been the least durable blanket. The Ugg ones they sell at Bed Bath & Beyond stayed softer and lasted way better than Barefoot.
I’ve heard this! That the Barefoot ones don’t hold up well after washing :(

I have come to find that they have different fabrics. I also bought the same said one at NR and I bought another one there that I think was a return. It's the "into the wild" blanket. I LOVE the other one. The fabric is so much better. It holds up so well and does not shed. My first blanket though she'd to no end. It's my cat's now .
That blanket has to be like $10 to make. That’s just wild. You could get a wool blanket for that price
I was gonna say… I was just looking at an alpaca throw blanket that’s $150, and years ago I paid about that much for a vintage 70s Hudson Bay blanket which is extremely thick warm wool, was great for surviving the harsh New England winters in the only-partially-heated house I grew up in lol
I have one it feels nice, BUT it looks like S**T after 2 yrs and it has Never been in a dryer. Still feels pretty good, but not worth it. Looks really ugly over time.
I was at Nordstrom awhile ago and I felt the barefoot dream’s blanket, I then felt the Nordstrom branded blanket and it was wayyyyy nicer (in my opinion) it was also only $30.
No hate towards Carrie at all, I always appreciate her points of view. But I am so tired of these companies coming up with all these expensive ‘trendy’ products.
Like why is ice a luxury thing now? Last time I checked frozen water is free and fully accessible to a lot of people.
Ok but pebble ice is amazing though! I feel like I’m risking cracking a tooth every time I chew normal ice, whereas pebble ice is the ideal crunchiness while not risking a dental emergency lol…that being said there are much cheaper options to buying a high maintenance kitchen appliance haha

The dialysis units that I’ve been at all have this kind of ice machine. It’s amazing for people who have to severely limit their fluid intake. Info: dialysis removes toxins and extra fluid from the blood of patients with kidney failure; too much fluid, and you will basically drown(it fills your lungs.)

I use a heating plate for my coffee cup and it was cheap and it works fine.
And actually, if you already have a wax burner, you can use the plate from that, too!
Yep! Bed Bath and Beyond has a great one for 20$ CAD and it keeps my tea warm and I can use any mug.
Literally I just use a electric insulated kettle for drinking tea, and keeping it warm, and it's so easy to get it boiling again.
That’s what I use and it was $20 on Amazon and came with a cute mug lid and spoon lol

I dont mean this to be offensive, but why are Americans so into ice?! Ice cold drinks, iced coffee, iced fountain pop... so much ice! And now im learning that there are different types of ice?! Only in America haha.
When I’ve been to other countries that serve drinks without ice, I don’t understand how people can drink anything at room temperature. I have to have ice! 😂

I can’t stand ice in my drink. I don’t mind putting a mug in the freezer to have a frosty drink. If I’m making iced tea, I’ll make a tray of ice cubes made of iced tea. The idea of watering down a drink with regular ice cubes is just gross.
Like you said, any stainless steel cup is going to keep coffee warm for 3 hours or more. They also make heating coasters for coffee mugs, like mini hot plates that are waaaay cheaper.
The upkeep and the fact that the ice maker doesn't actually keep the ice cold (ice will melt when sitting in the machine if it's off) made me sell my GE ice maker before I moved last summer. But it was cute while I had it 😊

I found my brand new, still wrapped and in the box, ember mug for $7.99 at goodwill in 2021 right after Christmas! I’m guessing an older person received it for Christmas, assumed it would be too complicated, and decided to donate it not knowing the cost. But of course, just a guess 😂

The fact that that kind of ice is considered bougie is really weird to me, maybe it's a cultural difference? but cocktails are supposed to be made with big blocks of ice that melt really slow so it doesn't water it down, same with coffee. I'm I missing something here? Do they taste different?
You can chew on the little ice nuggets - that's why I like it anyway.

This was awesome! Shark tank has ruined expensive stuff for me because, we know they make stuff for pennies on the dollar and sell it for astronomical prices… that being said, maybe a dupe video of these products? That could be fun!
There is a reason they are called influencer. Sam's Club has a very good dupe for the blanket. If everyone is doing it I don't. I wait a few months to decide. Saves me a lot of money!

If you drink a lot of coffee and have issues with coffee going cold, there are coffee makers with insulated carafe (we have a breville one we got as a gift we love that also has a burr grinder built in) that you can just brew a whole pot and it stays hot for ages

I use a yeti everyday and my coffee stays hot all day. I don’t know why more people don’t put their coffee in them. It’s great gift for new parents too. For me it’s been safer to have a leak proof cup and lid around children too.

Around laptops and other electronics too. Kill one laptop with a spill and you don't do it again!

I find it so weird that in my country I have to work most of my life for a decent house or to pay for my academic studies and other stuff and there are people who pay that amount of money for ICE

The average US citizen is just struggling to exist rn, trust me. These are very boujie items that the average person cannot afford.
It’s disgusting even seeing such uselessly over inflated products these are really geared for people who are without any financial concerns and few expenses.
The ember as a corp work from home mom is life changing… now I don’t like my coffee scalding. 135 is plenty. But it also warms up coffee left in the pot. So if you make a big pot it auto shuts off after 2 hours. If you put the coffee in the ember it warms it up. No gross microwave taste. And you cannot do that with a metal mug. I feel extremely passionately about the ember LOL

There are ice trays that make tiny spheres of ice that are a pretty good approximation of pebble ice for like 1/20th the price! I got some for Christmas, and I love them!
My travel yeti mug is all I need! I make my coffee in the morning before I head off to work, and can sip on it until my lunch break and it’s still hot/warm. Save the money on that thing for sure!

I make mine at home, and head to the hospital to work. So no I can't take my coffee maker to work with me, nor can we have coffee on the nursing station. So it has to stay warm in break room. It needs a lid for me.

Its funny - I spent $240 (Australian dollars,, so you know 20c US$) to give my sister a beautiful blanket as a gift, where I knew the proceeds supported one of my favourite women's support services. But I could never justify that for myself. Luckily I stay with her often and it gets cold where she lives!
I've had an Ember mug for years and I love it. I usually drink my coffee pretty quickly so I just use regular mugs for that, but I love to make tea in the evenings and am notorious for completely forgetting about it. The Ember mug has been a life changer for my tea game.
My SIL got like a $40 ice machine from Walmart. Works perfect and she’s had it since December!
Maybe it doesn't make the layered pellet ice for that price. There are just a few pellet ice makers and they are all expensive. I really wanted one, but the reviews on them were all terrible. This one has the best reputation, but reading the reviews on Amazon made me not want it. I've found this kind of stuff new on ebay or Facebook Marketplace for less than half price. Wouldn't be good for stuff that breaks down though.
I don't think I would buy any of these products, but I do have a couple of Barefoot Dreams cardigan style robes that I love. I don't know what it is about their products, but they are so soft and well made!
You should try the Walmart and target dupes for the barefoot dreams!

You do realize by paying for geek squad, you didn’t in actuality get a replacement for the ice maker. You got a new one for the cost of the geek squad. At that price point for the ice maker, you would assume it would have some type of warranty. If it doesn’t come with one, no bueno for me.

I got the ember mug when I started working from home and I love it! Definitely a luxury but I use it every day
I totally love the Ember mug! I always felt coffee tasted bad after microwaving so this has made it so I never have to do that anymore. I think a lot of people drink insanely hot coffee (lol thinking about when I was working at Starbucks having people order 200° drinks) and maybe this mug is not for you then. But I like the Ember mug because it's not stainless steel and it keeps the taste of your beverage way better. Definitely a Christmas gift ask vs random personal buy.

I cannot recommend the OXO scoop for the ice maker enough!! We got the ice maker in December of 2020 and the bigger, more flexible scoop is a game changer.
I also have an ember and I LOVE it haha. I drink a lot of tea and for me, it makes a HUGE difference
I don’t understand why you couldn’t return the ice machine. Don’t you normally have 30 days to return??? For it to act up on the third week seems to perfect reason to return it.

I second the Target cup for keeping your coffee warm, they lost me when they said I can’t put the blanket in the dryer, and my husband has that ice at his job, so I get him to bring me some in a small cooler!

I got got by ember ads. I honestly love my travel mug for when I’m between patients. I don’t know if the lid keeps the temp hotter but its been great! Definitely an unnecessary and luxury item.

I bought an ember mug for my dad 3 years ago, and he has used it everyday since. So if you have a coffee loving dad in your life it's a good gift.
I bought this mug warmer from CVS and I love it because I can use all my favorite mugs and just keep it on the warmer near me for my tea.
I find the mug thing so funny because I'm the opposite - I'll drink my coffee from breakfast at noon because I like it cold 😅
I have had an Ember mug for over 2 years now and gifted my boyfriend one a year ago. We both solely use them for any hot beverage. Their app sucks but once you set it up to the right temperature you don’t ever need to revisit the app and it works phenomenally! If you do let the drink sit for hours tho, even if it’s on its charging base, it’ll stall and not keep it hot because it assumes you won’t come back to drink a 4..5 hours old drink. I’m a die hard fan!
I love my ember mug, as a grad student who spends all day at my desk I drink coffee and tea in my ember mug constantly. I find that the hottest temperature is almost too hot, I usually keep it at 58 degrees Celsius. It is definitely pricey, but I got it as a graduation gift. However, I do think it has saved me well over 150$ in takeout coffee though because I always have something warm there to sip on already so I’m less tempted to go buy out. When it’s on the charging coaster it’ll stay warm all day long (as long as you keep moving the mug from time to time).
Probably the most extravagant thing that I own, but I wouldn’t go back.

A friend of mine has the ember mug. It was a birthday gift and they love it. They have 3 children and prefer their coffee war rather than hot so it works perfectly for them I do really think it’s beneficial for those with really chaotic or busy lifestyles

I’ve always thought the ember mug was ridiculous- glad you agree. I also need to drink HOT coffee and I use my yeti tumbler so it stays hot. I don’t like the taste reheated so fresh brewed coffee only for me.
Also- Nordstrom rack carries barefoot dreams. They are usually half regular retail price.

i have the ember travel mug . I love it . I got it when I was a grocery store manager and I never got to finish my hot cocoa. I absolutely loveit !!! I'm no longer a manager and don't use it as often as I used to however I do still love it

I love my ember mug 🤷🏻♀ Around 135-138 degrees is perfect for my coffee and tea and when I wfh or on the weekends, its a luxury item for sure. But I keep a little warmer on my desk at work and thats an ok substitute. I also waited till Target had them on sale, which is super rare, and I got mine for $100
I'm an early adopter of the ice maker as in I bought from First Build before GE bought it. My OG ice maker is still working perfectly all these years later. I'd say it's been a solid investment.
I haven't had to baby mine at all. I do use distilled water because our home water is very hard. Also, I don't clean it nearly as often as they suggest.

As someone who likes their coffee at a very specific 123 degrees lol, I really enjoy the ember. I can’t drink my coffee too hot, but it’s hard to time when it would be cool enough to drink without being ice cold.
I got an Ember mug from Marshall’s for $79 around Christmas time. As someone who doesn’t like to scald her esophagus with hot lava coffee, I absolutely love it! I set mine to 128° and have warm coffee all morning
I bought a mug warmer last month for about $20. It's a hot plate that you sit your cup on. It can stay hot up to 12 hours and up to 170 fahrenheit. Best thing I've ever gotten myself. I'm a sipper, so when I forget about my coffee for a couple of hours and can grab it and drink it still hot it's so wonderful. Also I'm not even using the recommended flat bottom mug, so it could be even better.
I have a nugget ice machine as well and absolutely love it! We make one full water tank of ice (about three drawers of ice) once a week and empty it out into bags in the freezer so we don’t have the machine running all the time. Just give the bag a little wack when it freezes to break up the ice then it’s totally good to go! Also I bought the Frigidaire version for a lot less money than the opal and it’s wonderful!

My boyfriend and I love our Ember mugs! I got them on sale for about $100 each, so I saved $50 on each. I set mine to about 130 degrees and it’s almost too hot. Carrie, I don’t know how it’s not hot enough for you 😂 To each their own!

I have a zojirushi tea thermos someone gave me as a gift (it has a filter basket in it for loose leaf teas) and the tea stays VERY hot in it. This morning it’s been 5 hours + since I put the tea and milk in and is still quite hot. If folks are looking for something like that. It does not have a fun sipping spout, but the travel lid is very secure and I have had no leaks.

Man I looooooove my Ember mug, and the metallic finish was a bit more expensive I think than the matte black one I’ve used for 2.5 years now. Also, I keep my coffee at 138 haha, and it’s △⃒⃘lways perfect for me so maybe u need one that goes higher? The ember works a lot better than travel mugs, I have those too and have tested them and they drop way below the 138 I like. Also It still works perfectly this long after getting it and I keep the base on my work desk and just use it all day! Literally haven’t re-heated my coffee in over 2 years haha

I found a blanket at Costco for my bed (queen size) that is incredibly soft and I have washed it several times. It’s still super soft and I often pull it off my bed to use on my couch!
Also, descaling your coffee maker is a must as well! Even if you have a Keurig or Nescafé. Anything that has water running through it can have build up of calcium f on local water sources. I’ve been told often to make sure I am descaling even if using filtered water 🤷🏻♀️. Sharing info just in case! Thanks for saving us money Carrie!

I like how you're so honest and you mention affordable alternatives. Of course some luxury items really are great quality "nice-to-haves", but there are options out there that are more affordable luxuries. Everyone deserves to be comfortable 🥰
a REALLY great alternative to the ember is just a coffee warmer/candle warmer hot plate and a flat bottom mug and they work great to keep the coffee warm, and they are only $10-$20.
The mug itself doesn't stay warm but if you are just sitting and not moving around they work REALLY well to keep drinks hot for as long as you want. Ive been using just a glass mug and mini hotplate for years and have never had cold coffee. There are also ones that heat a metal bottom mug with magnets so you don't have an open hotplate sitting around and they are ~$50 and are great as well.

My mom has had the ember mug, I think she’s actually had three now, for like several years. It seems to work well, but it chips so bad, like the paint on the mug. That’s why she has had to purchase like 3. For $150 it should hold up better, but she loves it so we keep getting her one for Christmas. They make really inexpensive little hot plates for mugs that seem like a way better deal.
