Garage Heater Install ― The Final Details

- In this video I close-up the wiring boxes, trim the zip ties, put the side back on the unit, plumb the unit in both directions, then make the diagonal bracing. On the sides, I make long braces spanning between the vertical drop legs, and on the front and back I make shorter braces that go between the drop legs and the bracket on the garage heater.
I cut all of the bracing with a cut-off blade on the angle grinder then radius the ends for a cleaner look and to keep things smooth. Everything was bolted in place with 5/16" hardware and split lock washers were used to keep everything tight. While I was installing these braces, I went over every nut and bolt on the hangers and made sure that every one of them was tight.
The heater itself is completely done, but I still have to add a condensate drain, wrap the thimble with a ceramic blanket then insulate the area around it, caulk the boot with high temp silicone, and eventually create an opening in the wall when that goes in to go around the flue. 😊

Now that the garage heater (furnace) is completely done (as far as the ceiling is concerned) I have a few small details above the ceiling level to take care of, then I can hammer away at the ceiling until it is done! As part of an upcoming video, I will test how much the heater will raise the temperature out there in one hour and two hours. I will repeat that experiment daily until the ceiling is done - possibly until the wall is done. It should be very interesting!

Looks awesome. Let's get some heat in there so you can finish the rest of the work this winter. 👍😊❤️
I agree 💯- I've had soooo much distractions the last month, but finally got this done! And it turns out the weather is going to be very cooperative in the ten-day forecast 😊🔥🔥
I'll bet you are relieved to be done with the heater! Congratulations on having heat (sort of 😉)!
Thanks Dick! It is awesome to have the heater done indeed! I did a short test the day after this video was produced, and the temperature raised 30℉ in the shop, but I believe I could raise it 40℉ or more pretty easily! That's with two thirds of the ceiling open (basically no help retaining heat at all), and about 40% of the wall area uninsulated. That's pretty good, but it takes a lot of propane. 🔥🔥
Great to see the heater installed! That should make the rest of the work a bit less chilly (freezing 🥶)!
Thanks Grape! I tested it, and it will absolutely help for here on-in. I can raise the temp nearly 30℉ which is way more than needed. Every bit of ceiling from here-on-in will only make that better so things are looking up! 😊🔥🔥
Good job Mojo! I'll bet you are super glad to be past the heater. That was a lot of details to take care of, but it all came together, congratulations!
Thank you Shed Homes! I'll be testing it daily as I continue with the ceiling. It will be interesting to see how much I can raise the temperature with everything so open, and how it improves as I get more ceiling and eventually wall completed. It should be interesting 😊
Hi Mojo, nice video and a great series, so onwards and upwards for 2023. Hopefully economically things will start to improve but I'm not holding my breath.
Thanks Larry! We are worried about the economy in the upcoming year as well. One thing we will be doing to moderate high prices is buy freshly cut lumber from the Amish and drying it in our greenhouse. Time will tell about the pricing of the hardware, etc. Maybe we will have to revert to wooden hardware like drawer slides?
I want to go back on the entire series for when I build my post frame. Is there a playlist with the entire series in it?
There is a playlist for the heater install, but a lot of the propane line is in another playlist. I am thinking of making a playlist that goes all they way back to the moving of the propane tank and the running of the PEX propane lines all the way to the final sealing of the wall. It will be a long playlist, but people can choose wat they want to watch, and it will all be there!
But your way is better I might go to Menards for the 20th time this week. I originally was going to do the thread bolts , then my co worker said to get a mount Menards doesn’t sell those, then I had my own idea of 4 chains so I was gonna do that tomorrow but now I think ur way looks nicer
No vibration, so it is very quiet. Worked very well last year 😊
you could hang an engine off your heater with all the iron to hold it up
I don't think so...
the heater is like 50 pounds im doing one right now i dont think i will do that much bracing
Good luck.
Most of these are hung with 3/8' all thread. Mine is! Been up for 4 years now.
WOW where does the engine hoist attach?
