Immediate steps to counter fever in children- Dr. Varsha Saxena

The first step when fever is seen in kids is to give antipyretic. the parents should not wait for the doctor to see the child if the fever is more than 99 degrees. An antipyretic like paracetamol should be given in the correct dosing before visiting the doctor. If the fever is more than 101, the child should be immediately sponged with normal water (no ice water should be used) so that the temparature does not rise. The child should also be given lots of water so that he is not dehydrated..

The harmful effects of large amounts of paracetamol on the liver are usually delayed, so children may feel well for the first day after an overdose but become very sick after that. Immediate medical management is required in the event of overdose, even if symptoms of overdose are not present.
The liver can't process excessive doses of the medication. If a child takes too much acetaminophen (or takes the recommended amount for too long) toxins can build up in their body. This toxicity can cause vomiting, liver damage and death.

Examples of neurodevelopmental disorders in children include attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, learning disabilities, intellectual disability (also known as mental retardation), conduct disorders, cerebral palsy, and impairments in vision and hearing.
