  • Having good posture is not just about your spine. In this video, I discuss the relationship between the respiratory diaphragm and the pelvic floor, as well as the effect that poor posture has on them. Standing up for yourself does more than make you taller!

    Thanks for this great video. I've been practicing zazen for 15 years and Tai Chi for about thirty, so I can relate to your reference to the mutual relationship between the upper and lower diaphragms. My question to you is, are you aware of any difference in this connection between men and women...given the relative difference in size of the pelvic diaphragm.

      Hi Glyn, thanks for watching! You can actually use a small therapy ball (or tennis ball) for pelvic floor massage through your clothes. Start sitting on a cushioned chair and put the ball right underneath you. Breathe as if you were breathing all the way down into the ball. You can stay here for 2-5 minutes, as long as it is not painful. You may also consider seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist who can help address your specific issues. With any dysfunction, it's probably not stemming just from the pelvic floor. I have a course that will teach you how to build core and total body strength - you can learn more about it at www.aewellness.com/struc-sound-get-started/. Hope this helps!

    My ribcage are locked down and its behined the pelvis and i m not able to breathe deeply. Infact my posture is slumping.
    So can i start D.breathing practice even if it is not perfect . Does it work????

    • @aewellness
      @aewellness  6 лет назад +2

      Yes! Start breathing but also work on getting your ribs and posture into better positions. Check out my rib cage reset video here: ruclips.net/video/YSbLrIQXcOc/видео.html (which I know you've watched, but just so you have it!)

    hiya how do you do a pelivc drop without making my muscles tighter

    • @aewellness

      Learning to let these tissues relax is work! Self massage with a super soft ball is helpful (through clothing) and also awareness. Good luck!

    • @aewellness
      @aewellness  9 лет назад +2

      Hi Ricardo - The diaphragm and pelvic floor work in opposition - so no intentional contraction or kegel. Hope that helps!

    Will this breathing help over tight pelvic floor muscles please please reply thanks

    • @aewellness
      @aewellness  5 лет назад +1

      It absolutely could - the real question to answer is why the pelvic floor muscles are overly tight - probably something else going on in the area!

    Hi, my pelvic floor is super tight, I have pudendal neuropathy and interstitial cystitis, sacroiliac joint dysfunction and SPD. I breath from my shoulders and chest. I'm practising diaphragm breathing but finding it hard. I want to RELAX my pelvic floor, will correct breathing help that or tighten it further? Many many thanks! Yvonne.

      Hi Yvonne,
      It is awesome that you are practicing diaphragmatic breathing - that is an excellent place to start. To further help you connect with your diaphragm and pelvic floor (so that you can then relax them) I recommend massage. My favorite (and the cheapest alternative) is self-massage with Yoga Tune Up therapy balls. The Classic size therapy balls fit right into the pelvic floor, helping to locate tension and build proprioception, so that you can then relax the tissues. YTU also has a great DVD for the diaphragm and core called Coregeous. It instructs you how to use the soft inflated ball to massage deep into the gut and diaphragm. Feel free to email me at alex at hollaforsomemala dot com if you have any additional questions!

      Hello.
      As a Pelvic Floor PT, I suggest you to see one at your area.
      She can help you a lot with Pudendal Neuropathy, SIJ disfunction and the muscle spasm that you might have (I sounds like that...)
      This video is great and very helpful for understanding the biomechanics, but a Pelvic Floor specialist can do an internal as well as external exam, and customize a treatment plan for you. I highly recommend that. good luck!

      Hi Sivan, great point! Thank you for bringing up that working with a professional, especially a Pelvic Floor specialist who does internal work is very important if you are having pelvic floor issues/pain.

      I have a similar problem with "clenching". I find that if I do gentle kegels & focus on lowering my pelvic floor all the way when I inhale is the key to relaxing.

    I cant view replys, what would you say to help my husbands inguinal hernia

    • @aewellness
      @aewellness  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Cindy, an inguinal hernia is a breakdown and weakening of the fascia at the front of the pelvis. While better breathing mechanics will help alleviate pressure on the area, if the damage has been done, repair may be necessary. Fixing posture and breathing will help to avoid the recurrence of the issue in the future. Hope this helps!
