  • This is a preview of the 38 minute Phantom Productions' profile of the Teac Tascam reel to reel tape recorders. The full version is available at this link reel2reeltexas..... The profile includes information about Teac's founding and their evolution with Tascam, their connections with Ampex and Berlant Concertone and much more. The demos of recorders in the Phantom collection include the Teac 80-8 which came to us with an original recording of Willie Nelson. Folks may not know that the 80-8 was also used to create the Star Wars R2D2 and 3CPO sound effects. It was also used by the Eagles, Boston, Kansas and many other bands. Also in the collection is the Teac A-3340 which enabled many bands to prepare for the studio. For example; Blue Öyster Cult - Before heading into the Record Plant, each member of the band acquired newly affordable "pro-sumer" TEAC 4-track recorders to aid in their songwriting. Using his TEAC 3340S reel-to-reel and a couple of mics, Roeser recorded a demo of "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" in his spare room. the January 1981 Modern Recording & Music magaizne that the Doobie Brothers mailed 8-track Tascam tapes back and forth to each other as they were working on new music.
