As someone that has almost 1k into GD these are great tips! Especially for newcomers to the game or arpgs in general. Good job and keep up on the great work
The most important tip in this video is to focus on a single damage type. At most, you'll be using two to three damage types in any build, even end-game optimized ones. There are ways around it with enough knowledge and theorycrafting, but it really is a Keep It Simple Stupid method of building.
On your first playthrough, explore the whole map. It doesn't reset on logout like in poe (though it doesn't carry over between characters and difficulty), and you can learn a lot about pathing and the game just by checking everything out. Another one would be: Shops reset after you are a good distance away from them/another map for like 15 seconds. At the start, you can use this to get the few missing pieces of scrap you need. In the end game, you can use this to get recipes and really good items.
All great tips! I would like to add that both left and right click work a bit differently, meaning if you put a skill on them the left click will require you to actually click the enemy and make your character move towards that enemy, meanwhile the right click will do the attack on a stationary state, it will fire the attack in the direction of the mouse but the character won't move. For this reason I tend to go main skill on the left click for melee builds (I need to move to the enemy to attack), while ranged builds with main skill on the right click will fire from its position. Also if you assign "Move To" to your left click, it will still be able to interact with NPCs, loot chests, break boxes, etc. Hope it's helpful, and great video! Subbing for more, keep up the great work!
I've been saying for years that GD is THE ARPG, POE is fine but GD is "the daddy" IMO. I seldom replay games but I have over 500hrs in GD (by GD standards, pretty lightweight tbh) and I'm nowhere near finished. Just as Virtua Fighter (where the bloody hell is VF6, SEGA?) has unparalleled depth in 3D fighting games, GD is the deepest, most rewarding ARPG IMO. A modern masterpiece. EDIT I'm just glad the game is getting the attention it deserves, it's still somewhat overlooked but the tide slowly seems to be turning.
Use your Shared Stash exclusively. All your components should go there. There's a button that auto moves them from your inventory. Great tips, great vid!
The crucible is a great way to get early devotions for cheap and level ya self to 10-15 before getting into the game. Let’s you focus more on story and less on picking everything up or worrying about death til it matters.
Don't forget to use the search option, you can use keywords to narrow down your choices on the Devotion page (you can in the storage, crafting and merchants as well). The constellation points are highlighted, it's a nice QOL feature the Devs included. It gives you a target to aim towards as well.
Great video! I also watched your best starting skills to level up. Few days ago I just heard about this game as I was already getting bored on D4 despite being on my first character just at level 42; it was already starting to feel like a grind without much fun. I used to play the heck out of D2 back in the day. I’m loving this game so far. I won’t be spending anymore $ on any Diablo games in the future.
Worth to mention that after 1 character is raised to 94 and be able to obtain Lokarr's set - the 1 to 100 leveling of a new character takes only 6-8 hours. Some speedrunners do it in even ±4 hours. Yes, each class is viable but the best options for a fresh start are Dark One set users (because it's target-farmable), Forcewavers, Skaters (Vire's Might users) and a tiny bit worse are Primal strikers just because they need to get Korvan Storm Halberd so have to go Forgotten Gods lands quite early. Blitzers could be in the list but they need 2 greens from Ugdenbog so no.
Great video. Other tips videos makes things overly complicated. I've been thinking of getting back into Grim dawn after quitting because I felt overwhelmed and lost.
This game has tons of replayability. I also like that this isn't too bound on your gear, which indeed makes every build viable. Unlike Diablo 3. It's great for casual players like me.
Also choose first mastery wisely, u can change ur second mastery as much as u want, using soft, but u can’t change first mastery. this advise is for people who don’t have time or desire to lvl up second character. for eg if u like nightblade playstyle but not sure what second class suits u
I remember I first start playing this new major update, and I was in huge question for a moment about why my buffs were removed from hotkeys, yet their icons appeared above the hotkey bar. It wasn't until later I realized they have been auto toggled, saving you from manually toggle them and freeing up hotkeys.
Disagree on Veteran. You absolutely get rewarded for it. There's a lot more loot on Veteran because the packs are larger. Where you'll find a single hero on Normal, you'll get 3 on Veteran. Try out the Burrwich Village rift fight if you don't believe me. That's not to say that the loot will be better, but there will be more of it.
The man himself! Your content is really good man...sorry about your Mic situation. Thanks for your input. I'm guess I'm thinking about it from purely a time to level/achieve next difficulty stand point.
@@Goomba_YT Cheers! The mic has been fixed, just waiting on Amazon to deliver. I can't really say that you're wrong about it being faster to level on Normal/non-Veteran but with a good build it should be about the same-ish and you get more loot. More risk of death though, so there is that. You can bury me on the Veteran hill though, cos I'm not coming down! Great video.
There's not more monster density on vet. It's only health and hp. There's also no increase in item drops (outside of the community season), though they did make it a bit easier in this last patch, but not by much. It's honestly always a waste of time to play on vet
And of course it's more challenging, it's a huge difference between both settings, I was even a bit bored from non-veteran mode 😂 Overall great video for starter's!
Veteran is uesless! Someone mentioned "hey, you get 10% XP boost". Suuuure, but every monster is 2x the work to kill. Can't mow-em all down and keep going like I want. So what's the point of that?
Tip number # (insert your own number here): Whenever you want to DELETE the character. Don't just DELETE the character. Put all the components, Relic especially to the Smuggler shared stashes first and only then proceed to DELETE that character. I know. No sh*t Sherlock. But sometimes we forgot.
Yeah Veteran is an odd one. It makes the game better in some ways, but slower with harsh difficulty spikes, particularly with bosses. So it depends on what you want - if you're going to play the game once on one difficulty, then sure, Normal/Veteran is probably the best choice. But if you're going to play it on every difficulty, the 10% XP increase is easily offset by how slower you go, so you'd be better served just dashing through on the standard setting.
step one, get rhe dlc's!! step two, go crazy, test everything, build Specialised characters. add mastery at least 1per lvl step 3, use the shared loot for the components etc. have fun, this game is te BEST in the genre, by far.
1. Always start on Veteran! - here's the gist of it, all Masteries built to focus on one damage skill early will see little difference in kill times from playing on veteran (except on the elite enemies). The increased density of mobs and more notably elites will great increase loot drops over all and most importantly it will prepare you for the later difficulty jumps when moving to the next difficulty. - not starting on veteran is a trap many new player fall into because the game treats it like an optional increase and only explains the experience increase in game and you need to go to the official page or the wiki to learn everything about difficulty. 2. Always create at least one character to focus on a build based on one of the few target farmable sets in game (yes you should do at least some build researching/reviewing early to help you learn the system correctly). - while it's fun to play completely fresh characters and build them as you go, you will thank me when you want to try farming real loot in the endgame because you'll have a character that can actually do it while not feeling like torture. 3. The loot filter really shouldn't be touched until you get rather far into the game! - If you want to try other builds and experiment you are going to need gear or you can crawl again like you never played the game to begin with (try this with rep grinds if you hate yourself). 4. Don't make a dozen low level characters! - try to make it at least till you start finishing some of the rep grinds so that your future characters will get the benefits of the rep boosters sold to max rep characters (you're going to need at least two characters to max out all reps in game so you have every booster available for later use. 5. Defences are a bit trickier then just getting resists and armor. - they are a start but for example with armor, it's value is only as good as your armor absorb %ratio (it shows up if you mouse over armor and is 70% base line) 6. You want to take advantage of early areas to farm aether crystals! - you need these for many things all through out the game and one decent spot to get a lot quickly on a fresh character is to run Burial Hill repeatedly till they stop dropping from the clusters (if my memory serves me right it around level 14 they stop dropping there on normal/veteran). I could go on but at that point you might as well go read a complete guide on proper fresh starts.
1. Don't start on vet, you can get to higher difficulty faster that way. Vet is not a proper challange more like a slow down before you get to proper challange. Also, the items you can find on vet or normal won't be the ones you need higher up, so it's not like really worth hunting them. 2. You don't need sets in GD. Actually GDs sets are a really intersting system because they are a lot more about completelly transforming characters (with generally not synergising skills) to different play styles. I'd say a lvl 94 set has very little to do with how you get to lvl 94 3. maybe turn of commons and magics, the rest you want to see definatelly 4. gonna be unavoidable if you want to learn the game, have good ideas and not in the business of copying guides. I had more than 20 character before I reached 100 for the first time. Nowdays I can get to 100 in like 9 hour with weird builds because I learned the game myself and not just followed a guide. 5. there is a lot to learn about defence in GD some abilities which seems offensive for example, turn out to be defensive tools in disguise (molotovs, aura of censure etc.) 6. aether crystals are only a problem if you skip through a lot of the game, otherwise this is something that the early experimentation with low lvl characters will automatically solve guides for ppl good at following orders and bad at thinking for themselves. If you like complexity I presume you do, because you like to figure it out, not because you like to execute complicated instructions....
@@CraftyF0X 1. We can agree to disagree here. I have tested normal vs veteran many times and it always favors playing on veteran in the long run (you can find videos from content creators as well showing the comparison although they are older videos). You seem to have misunderstood what I meant here: "The increased density of mobs and more notably elites will great increase loot drops over all and most importantly it will prepare you for the later difficulty jumps when moving to the next difficulty." I meant these as two separate ideas but worded it poorly. Yes low level items have nothing to do with later gearing but having higher drop rates in the moment will increase the likely hood of finding useful items for your build at that time. Also the 10% experience rate is misleading as the density increase magnifies this bonus. 2. Yes you could play with out sets "but" (and it's a massive "BUT") not taking advantage of the bonuses that are in most sets will greatly weaken your build even when compared to perfect greens. Yes peak endgame build will not often be all legendaries let alone full sets but almost every endgame build worth its salt uses some set bonuses to min-max in some way. Most high level sets mostly focus on massive stat bonuses to specific skill and not really changes other then maybe damage type conversions. If your building a character based on a set you found at another time then endgame sets have a massive effect on how you get to level 94 and on top of this there are other sets in game at various levels. The main purpose of my original comment was due to the massive power at least two of the target farmable endgame set have, namely "Krieg's Armament and Dark One's Gift" but there are 4 of them that are "endgame" and one for leveling (they can all be stupidly strong on a fresh account before you've had the time to farm anything else). 3. nothing to really say here. 4.What's good for a new play and what you have experience are not really the same thing. You can have multiple characters before getting to the point I mentioned in my original comment but many things in GD take a lot of time if you don't have the boosters that are unlocked by completing the game thoroughly (not just the rep boosters I meantioned in my original comment) 5. again nothing to really say here 6. Aether crystals become a problem the moment you start to really farm items in the endgame. Breaking down trash gear for the components and other items is very dynamite heavy and farming dynamite with world spawn locations is much slower the crafting with aether shards. It's a time saver for when you actually want to farm. This statement: "I could go on but at that point you might as well go read a complete guide on proper fresh starts." Had nothing to do with whether not you like to simply be a sheep! Guides are learning tools that can greatly help people with limited knowledge. I as an experienced player (more then 1500 hours) can look at a guide and pull out parts I want to either test and/or incorporate into my own strategy for anything in game (like starting in the Crucible for a faster start). A new player should use a guide as a reference point so they have an easier time with the many new parts of GD that they do not understand. This is what makes tip videos good for new players as well and why I left a lot out of my first comment.
@@CraftyF0XPersonal preference I go for this approach. The whole reason GD appeals to me is because I don't have to follow a bloody guide or do things the optimal way, so what's fun
I wish they would focus on a new graphic engine or something. This game is seriously outdated. The 3D graphics makes it look 10x more outdated than any pre rendered background 2D game. Amazing gameplay terribly outdated graphic engine, even original Diablo 2 looks more charming than this

Great thumbnail! Would have liked to see something like that in the video.
Fair enough
step one, get rhe dlc's!!
step two, go crazy, test everything, build Specialised characters. add mastery at least 1per lvl
step 3, use the shared loot for the components etc.
have fun, this game is te BEST in the genre, by far.
veteran hardcore is the way to go
I feel the same way sometimes. Honestly I start over so much hardcore just gives me an excuse to lol.
- they are a start but for example with armor, it's value is only as good as your armor absorb %ratio (it shows up if you mouse over armor and is 70% base line)
I'd say a lvl 94 set has very little to do with how you get to lvl 94
3. maybe turn of commons and magics, the rest you want to see definatelly
4. gonna be unavoidable if you want to learn the game, have good ideas and not in the business of copying guides. I had more than 20 character before I reached 100 for the first time. Nowdays I can get to 100 in like 9 hour with weird builds because I learned the game myself and not just followed a guide.
5. there is a lot to learn about defence in GD some abilities which seems offensive for example, turn out to be defensive tools in disguise (molotovs, aura of censure etc.)
6. aether crystals are only a problem if you skip through a lot of the game, otherwise this is something that the early experimentation with low lvl characters will automatically solve
guides for ppl good at following orders and bad at thinking for themselves.
You can have multiple characters before getting to the point I mentioned in my original comment but many things in GD take a lot of time if you don't have the boosters that are unlocked by completing the game thoroughly (not just the rep boosters I meantioned in my original comment)
5. again nothing to really say here
The whole reason GD appeals to me is because I don't have to follow a bloody guide or do things the optimal way, so what's fun
came for the thumbnail, stayed for the content.

After 100hrs ive finally created a alt lol
Better man than me 😂
i cloiekd on the video bcuz of the thumbnail
Perfect!
@@Goomba_YT Is the art actually related to GD though? And where did you find it?

its 2024 already ?!? 🤣😂

I wish they would focus on a new graphic engine or something. This game is seriously outdated. The 3D graphics makes it look 10x more outdated than any pre rendered background 2D game. Amazing gameplay terribly outdated graphic engine, even original Diablo 2 looks more charming than this
Yeah that's a common take. The graphics have never really bothered me though.
@@Goomba_YT Tbh i'm exaggerating, this game with the 4k upscaled texture mod and Nvidia freestyle filter makes it look beautiful
And yet no matter how pretty D4 looks I am having way more fun in this game. If only D4 was this good... Sigh
same same@@MMoer
@@MMoer That's why you play Project Diablo 2 or Diablo 2 Resurrected instead. But i strongly STRONGLY recommend Project Diablo 2
Play veteran. The game is WAY to easy without it.
Just play game and dont use guides :)
This is the way
@@Goomba_YT When you learn about game alone it will give you more joy, and grim dawn have noob friendly start
@corvus8638 first try was without guides, nothing just game
@corvus8638 yeah you van feel that, i was trying to read everything than i spend a few hours trying to figure out what should i do with build
