my dad turns 89 next month and I put your video in front of him , he hasn't ever seen youtube . He carves as well but after a small stroke he was forgetting how to get started on the cane he was prepping . He watched you intensely , said "oh he has a Mora you can't get those anymore".. then said at the end 'He knows what he is doing, the right way"
Thank you! I’m (starting with this video) learning how to whittle. I’m intend to involve my daughter slowly but steadily (only seven). I hope for it to be a fun growth full hobby for us. First project is a walking stick found in Adirondack mountains. So glad you made this video!
Hi great question, it's were the branch split into two new branches (a natural fork in the branch) I cut to length and striped the bark off with knife. Hope this helps answer your question.
Fresh wood is easier to carve but Dry wood is okay to it just depends on your arm strength ect. You could try one from your yard and if your finding it a little to hard then try fresh. Hope this help happy carving.

It it better to use fresh branches or is it okay to use the ones I find in my yard?
