  • Welcome to TomFM! In today's Football Manager 2022 FM22 Experiment, where I'm giving Belgium a £1.8bn TV Deal. We're giving each of the 18 teams in the Jupiler Pro League £100,000,000 in the form of a TV deal each season to see if they can become the number 1 league in Europe. The Belgian Leagues need returning to glory and could this be the way to do it? The Jupiler Pro League has some great teams such as Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Antwerp and Genk so surely one of the Belgian sides can reach glory in this Football Manager 2022 Experiment?

    "Id like to know what they have done with all that money?!? " ... The history of Belgium right there 😂 In all seriousness i would like to see this replicated with other leagues. I have found that Belgian clubs are tough negotiators and Belgians have a culture of being frugal. I do wonder if there are cultural traits coded in to the game. would a different league produce different results?
    As a Belgian, before this video started, I expected the clubs to horde the money, spent very little and slowly start to buy mid to top tier players once they have all built new stadiums.

    Hey Tom
    Think you're missing the fact that if you have multiple teams going into the knockouts, it will equal more coefficients than 1 team winning it all at the top end of it. For example I remember a certain Carlo Garganesi bemoaning the fact the bundesliga took a UCL spot from Serie A despite over the preview 5 years AC and Inter had won it. It was because German teams were regularly going deep in the Uefa Cup/Europa Leage while Italian teams in the tournament would just ignore it. Its all about winning games in the tournament overall, not necessarily about winning it

    I guess if teams get to the latter stages of any of the European tournaments that will improve the leagues standings. Obviously if they got to the latter stages of the champions league that would impact the standings quicker but they seem to be doing it via the 2nd and 3rd European cups so a slower pace.

    Yeah, they got to first place kind of out of nowhere. Wonder how their national team was doing after all this money in their league? Any major victories? Thank you for the video, Tom - it was an interesting one :)

    what i think might of happend is something where so much money over that time will have turned these places into wonderkid factories negating the ned to buy so many players, alot of the belgian clubs will have things like develop players for profit as goals so they may not just decide to go all galactico all the time. Over the time the high average quality of the league(doesnt Belgium have limited relegation?) has probobly crept it past the pl. Seems a good chunk of decent stable sides that compete in europe but are not elite. I would bet the national team is dominant and a large volume of top tier Belgian players in the db

    About League reputation, I think you need to be careful with it, as the rise is quite slow, much slower than the european coefficients : I played in France, and by the time Ligue 1 was 4th on reputation, France was on par with England on coefficients ; I play now in the Swedish league, my club just did 3 UCL finals, one that I won, Sweden is 5th on coefficient, yet still 8th on reputation, even by forcing other Swedish clubs into consecutive european (semi-)finals. Although I didn't put such a TV deal in any of these saves.

  • @Domancave
    @Domancave 2 года назад +1

    I think that they had such a high reputation because every team would have had a top stadium and top facilities. Like imagine if Every premier league team had the facilities of City or United. It would make the league far better and players would be very happy to go to lower sides in order to work in that kind of environment

    Maybe there was too much competition for the top Belgian players.
    The other top leagues only have a "few" - 4 or so at the very top.
    Perhaps only give a billion to the top 4 teams and see how it develops.

  • @TomVerhaegen

    Could be the first years of getting that kind of money they all renewed their stadium's. Because Belgian clubs have no good grounds with the exception of Gent (since 2015 new ground) and Antwerp re-building The Bosuil as we speak.

  • @panagiotishadjipierou5841
    @panagiotishadjipierou5841 2 года назад +1

    Maybe the national team has had a lot of success? It would probably make sense because firstly with all that money they had I'd assume most have maxed out facilities so regens must be cracked, and also if they won international competitions with domestic playing players then the reputation of the league goes up. If we take a look at reality let's say someone like Czech Republic who have quite a few players in the national team playing in their league as well, if they went to a final of the World Cup then surely the Czech league would gain loads of rep too

  • @listey

    I've played in the Belgian league before and the tax there was stupidly high. So while you're pumping in 100m per year they lose a sizeable amount to taxes.

    I assume for these kind of simulations, the detail level has been set at "none", which means matches have not actually been simulated, at least not for all competitions. That would explain why every year for the past 60 years the same clubs won the Champions League, it does not simulate that competition or foreign leagues and goes mostly by reputation. That is an issue with almost all of these simulation videos done on RUclips, it's rather superficial and therefore gives those flawed results. I understand why this is done though, actually simulating all those matches would literally take weeks.

    When i try things like this teams dont buy better players, they end up just throwing more money at the same level of player they would normally sign as their rep holds them back. might be better to give the league and teams 10000 rep and sim from there

    Your experiment also shows how overrated the top clubs are and how f'ed the reputation attribute is in FM. 70 years and not a single surprising winner of the CL. Barely another club outside of the usual suspects in the final. Europa league as well: take out the Belgian teams and you have Augsburg and maybe RB Salzburg as a somewhat surprising finalist

    • @yoloyolo3003
      @yoloyolo3003 2 года назад +1

      Nah, it's just that 7 billion in 70 years is not really that much money. I mean the new premier league prize money is around 3 billion per year. Almost half of what the Belgian teams recieved over 70 years. Now it would've been a completely different story if it was 70 billion over 70 years.

    • @schlauchflicker
      @schlauchflicker 2 года назад +1

      It's because in these kind of simulations they don't actual simulate the matches, i.e. lowest setting on detail level. Matches are mostly decided on reputation, so overtime it stabilizes. In order to simulate it properly, you'd have to set the detail level higher and simulate all matches, but that would take too long for the average RUclipsr to prepare, probably actual weeks of having your PC run the game to get that far.

    This league would be top to bottom maybe the 2nd best league in the world and definitely the most competitive, however the lack of UCL and Europe league trophies may be because the winners of those trophies have even bigger budgets, sometimes even triple what the top Belgium club could have. It goes to the question would you rather have 2/3 dominate clubs winning all the continental/international trophies, but the other clubs having virtually no shot of competing, or would you rather your league have parity with every fan base having hope of winning a domestic trophy every year? I guess it depends on who you ask. A Barcelona/ Real Madrid fan will prefer one, but a Real Betis/Villarreal fan may prefer the other.
