"Looking for 8 when they pull that gate, and I hope that judge ain't blind", is one of my favorite lines. It is because they try for 8 seconds on a bull, before they can get off...that is going the distance in bull riding. And 2 other great George Strait songs are "Check Yes or No" & "The Chair".....this is a rabbit hole, with wonderful classic/great songs...so keep this artist on your list of go-to's!
61 # 1 hits. There is a reason they call him King George...The King of Country. He is 72 and still sounds great. He's a rancher and a he was a team roper. He's singing about a bronc rider.
Amarillo (Spanish for "yellow") is a city in Texas. He is heading there for a rodeo and reflecting on the life of a rodeo man. He lost his saddle, broke his leg, lost two relationships. He "don't got a dime, but what I got is mine". The life has cost him a lot but the freedom is worth it to him.
Another Western by George is I can Still Make Cheyenne. Incredible song. Amarillo is an old west type town in Texas. I describe his voice as sunshine dipped in honey. You're welcome to borrow that if you want.
George Strait knows his way around horses and cattle. He owns his own ranch. He's retired now, but thanks to him for a lot of gorgeous music and stories.
King George is brilliant!!!! There's a reason we call him King George..... anything by him is worth listening to.... if you're a dad, Love Without End Amen is a good song
Amarillo by morning was actually wrote by Terry Stafford my great uncle. my grandma would tell me stories about her brother when he passed away she kept his golden records and guitar I'm so glad this song still gets listened too thank you much love❤
It amazes me sometimes when folks don't know what a troubadour is. Even after George actually tells you in his song. Special singer. All of George's songs are top notch. "I saw God today" is one im really partial to for Mother and Father's Day.
Amarillo is a town in Texas. George was a rodeo rider &is known as 'King George' with 60 #1 hits. The man does not have a bad song. I love 'You look so good in love' which was also done when he was younger, but my fav is 'Troubadour' (a Troubadour is like a traveling poet/entertainer) which he did as a more mature man, looking back on his career. "Check yes or no' is a lighter sweet song. So many to choose from & all are excellent!
@@setonhillstudiosTroubador is very good. To us in Amarillo this song is basically our anthem. I work outside and I'll play this on my speaker and people will sing along always makes me laugh
Of course he's great.. It's King George... don't mess with him.. He's a true country boy.. he grew up in Texas ranching.. has his own now.. has a degree in agriculture. Never had to use it because he's GEORGE STRAIT. lol Check out everything from King George.. you will not be disappointed. And btw.. country music doesn't have a violin.. It's a Fiddle.
Sit back and hang on. George has over 60 #1 hits and 80 in the top 10. George is in a class of his own! Has been married to high-school sweetheart for over 50 years. He is in his early 70s and still makes appearances at events (Lately tributes to other artists such at late Toby Keith). Good songs to listen to are Troubadour, I Can Still Make Cheyenne, Carrying Your Love With Me. For a little humor Check Yes or No, The Chair, or All My Ex's Live in Texas.
Wow! That's impressive. I've heard his name but I don't think I ever heard a song except the last one, and that may have been a cover. But my gosh, what a career! And married all that time to his HS sweetheart. Gotta love that. And he's a very good looking man, imo. I'm just a guy who likes women, but I think I know a handsome man, geez, he's handsome! And his voice is like butter here. I'm here for the ride. Thanks for the info, Donna. Why haven't I heard more George Strait? Maybe I have and just don't realize it. I'm not a big country fan - especially these days. Very few artists are actually singing true country anymore, imo. Every time I hit the channel to see what's going on, sounds like a rapper with a twang. What's going on??? Are you kidding me. I'm a George Jones, and now, apparently, a George Strait kinda guy. Have a blessed day.
George is truly the King of Country music. The late 80's and through the 90's was the last gasp of real country music before trying to mix with rap and harder music genres. George didn't only sing about rodeo and cowboying, but he lived it by participating in rodeos and worked at his ranch. As for us that grew up raising horses, going to rodeos, attending trail rides, he was/is a true hero of ours. BTW: Since I have no musical talent whatsoever, I wound up learning the boards and became a sound guy. Mostly church, local bands, small concerts, etc.
A great upbeat song from George is "The Fireman". "The Chair" is another great storytelling song. George was a real cowboy and competed in Team Roping and did do some bull riding! He grew up on a Texas ranch and that is part of who he is. Definitely a huge category of hits to check out.
I just love George Strait. Also love this song. I grew up in Amarillo, Texas and this song was released when I was about 18 or 19. George is another native Texan, originally from the San Angelo area. Hope you'll react to more of his music.
Check out his entire catalog from 1981 and still to this day 2024, He’s the only artist in history of all genres music to achieve 60, number one singles👍

George is still touring some. He never has toured like other artists. He is writing some songs now, and is writing some with his son Bubba. He is married to his wife and has been married to her since they were in HS I think, has a son Bubba who is married with two kids and his daughter passed away when she was 13 I think in a car accident
We have 1 Hank Jr. tune on the channel, I believe, and 1 tune from the Highwaymen. Definitely have to dig into more from them though! Thanks for the recommendations!
A Garth Brooks song that always gives me chills is "The Beaches of Cheyenne". Even if you don't review it, please listen to it. Watching this makes me think of Bushwhacker, the greatest bucking bull that ever lived.... He passed away peacefully July 2nd at the age of 18, being rode only 3 times in his career. Beautiful beast.

George Harvey Strait Sr. (born May 18, 1952) is an American country music singer, songwriter, actor, and music producer. He is credited for pioneering the neotraditional country style in the 1980s, famed for his authentic cowboy image and roots-oriented sound at a time when the Nashville music industry was dominated by country pop crossover acts. Given his influence on the genre, Strait has been nicknamed the "King of Country Music" by writers and music critics. >>>>>He currently holds the record for the most number-one songs on all charts by an artist, in any genre of music.
And to think, he was ready to quit trying and go back to ranching after years of having no luck in the music industry, when his wife talked him into giving it one last shot. He took that final shot, scored a bulls-eye, and the rest is history.
