I have owned both Hungry Planet and Material World. Do you not find them both severely outdated? I'd never want my children to have a 80's/early 90's view of countries today. For instance, in even many very poor countries, everyone has a cell phone. I'm asking honestly and with genuine curiosity because i don't want my comment to sound snarky. I really wish they'd update these books.
I totally agree, that’s why it’s good to have a wide variety of resources. It would not be sufficient as their entire curriculum, as you’re right - a 90s view. Thankfully, pairing it with other good books, documentary style videos (Rick Steve’s, etc.) and modern curriculum give it the boost it needs! So many valuable things in the books though like recipes and photos. Even though it’s outdated, it is a good representation of just one generation before our kids’ age, which isn’t that terribly far off, save for technology. Lots of tradition stands the test of time! My friend told me about a similar one about grandmothers recipes - that’s a new one. I’ll see if I can find the name of it for you!!
I love what you said about not gravitating towards the traumatic events of a region when picking out books. I never thought about that before or even realized I might be doing that....definitely going to be more aware of that!! Here's my video for the playlist: ruclips.net/video/5GuxhkegbZ0/видео.html
You should make those last few mins into a short. What a valuable nugget! Thank you for sharing.
I absolutely love your take on geography in the last few minutes of this video! I’ve never thought about it that way- so good!!
I was just hoping you’d have a video out! Thank you!
Wow! You study geography in such a meaningful way!
Loved your last point! I was looking up chapter books for our Japan unit study and almost all were related to the atomic bomb.
Love all your tips! ❤ is there an easy way to add my video to the playlist? I hate bugging you each time 🫣 😂
