      The reality is that there are a large number of smartcard based wallets that are very similar (Tangem, hashwallet, etc) The main challenge with most of them is that you need to enter the seed words into your phone to initialise them. (I did a video on the Satochip + Seedkeeper cards which can avoid this, but they don't have good mobile apps at this time)

    Can you verify the receive address on the screen of the foundation passport using multisig/sparrow?
    Can you power it off of USB incase you lose battery? I know they’re readily available nokia bl-5c batteries but in a pinch can you power it from the usb port?

    I've had my Passport for almost two years. I didn't know about the Key Manager! Does that operate the same way as a Seed Signer, for same device multisig, etc? That seems very strange that you cannot delete the additional keys. (PS- love your channel)

      Thanks :)
      It's basically BIP85 with a nice UI, so it lets you generate seeds, etc, that you can export, but doesn't have an option to make the device set that child seed as the currently active seed. (So you would need additional devices to use these seeds)

    Between Foundation Passport and Keystone pro3 If you have to pick one, which one would you pick?

    • @jpp_vh
      @jpp_vh 8 месяцев назад +1

      Btw keystone pro is discontinued you should remove it I guess from your list. only version3 is available. Not sure why you put a lower score, for me the pro3 is better than the pro. Source has been published and bitcoin only firmware released since your review.

    • @vandogtrailer6701
      @vandogtrailer6701 8 месяцев назад +2

      I own both. Passport for Bitcoin. Keystone for all else (and some Bitcoin).

    • @CryptoGuide
      @CryptoGuide  8 месяцев назад +6

      The Bitcoin-Only firmware just launched for the Keystone Pro 3, with multisig support being added last week. In terms of user experience, I do think that the Passport is a fuller featured and more accessible device as of today, with a more mature codebase, especially paired with Envoy. (Though is also almost double the price of the Keystone Pro 3)
      On the UX side, the touchscreen of the keystone 3 is much larger, so that will be important for some folk, and it also has the ability to store multiple seeds, as opposed to just having one. (Though whether you actually want multiple seeds or are happy with multiple accounts is your call)

    Brilliant review and deep dive thank you. I’m not sure I understand the whole sd card thing. Do I need the sd card to generate a seed phrase? I’m sure the sd card will be lost. Can’t I just use the device as a transaction signer? If I were to go across border control can I just wipe it and then enter the seed when I get to safety? That SD and that long code appears daunting. Another thing to memorise. What if I forget that sd code? Do I lose access to the wallet? Not sure I understand. Seems more complicated than normal cold wallets? I do love the design and so far out of all the wallets I’ve seen this would most likely pass brdr ctrl

    • @CryptoGuide
      @CryptoGuide  2 месяца назад +1

      The MicroSD thing is just an encrypted backup, so isn't needed, you can also just use a seed like a normal wallet. (But the MicroSD will also save other information about the accounts that you were using, labeling, etc)

  • @C0LiDe
    @C0LiDe 2 месяца назад

    How is the secure element working on the Passport? For example: Trezor Safe 3 main chip does not trust it. The SE never knows your seed, never knows your passphrase, never even knows your PIN. Even if it is broken or backdoored. The SE on the Trezor Safe 3 have no NDA but Passport does it?

    • @CryptoGuide
      @CryptoGuide  2 месяца назад +1

      Foundation passport, Coldcard and Trezor Safe 3/5 all have the same basic architecture when it comes to the relationship between the main MCU and the secure element. (In that none of them fully rely on trusting the SE)
      Passport and Trezor Safe 3/5 use the SE for more than just encryption of the wallet data, but also to verify the device genuineness.

    Quick question: Is there any possible way the microsd card could be compromised and used to hack the passport?

    • @CryptoGuide
      @CryptoGuide  2 месяца назад +1

      It's theoretically possible that something malicious on a MicroSD card could cause issues with things like a Passport or a Coldcard, but the general, but something like this would be very complicated for someone to exploit.

    What happens if the envoy app is attacked or whatever may happen?

    • @CryptoGuide
      @CryptoGuide  8 месяцев назад

      Basically the most likely thing that a hostile version of the Envoy app would do is prompt you to enter your recovery seed into your phone. (Probably with some scary error message) It could also generate receive addresses that below to a scammer, not your wallet. (Hence why verifying the receive address on the hardware device is important) It could also produce malicious PSBT files which send the funds to somewhere other than the address you provided. (Hence why it's important to review the transaction on the hardware device)
      This is also true of any malicious wallet software.

      Ledger has no storage space, trezor has no Bluetooth and no mobile app. I will go with safepal S1 Pro. Keystone 3 pro is the most terrible device I have ever bought. 3 pro camera and scancode algorithm are very badly programed. Scanning codes for long time without scanning. It's so annoying. Poor battery power. One transaction drains the whole battery. Ellipal Mini is good also but many people in reddit complained their coins were moved from the device and also on RUclips people complained they transferred their coins without using the device. Sounds so scary
